Adobe el Restaurante at Estancia La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
I recently stayed at the Estancia Hotel and had the opportunity to try Adobe several times. Although all the food was good, by far the best entree I tried was the duck, wonderful sauce and not at all fatty. I would definitely recommend this dish. The halibut was nicely prepared but a little bland, the short ribs were tasty but not as tender as they should be. The scallop appetizer was excellent, as was the seafood bisque, although the bowl in which it was served was much hotter than the temperature of the soup it contained. The kitchen service was a little slow at times, but the staff at the restaurant and the hotel is outstanding. I should also mention this is a good place for breakfast and their coffee and lattes are both great.
A hidden gem. Estancia did not disappoint. After dinner we went to the outdoor bar area to listen to l ive music and drink yummy wine. We ate dinner outside on the balcony of the restaurant overlooking the courtyard. It was lovely. The duck was delicious, the salad a perfect compliment. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
in our party of 3 only 1 of us (myself) really enjoyed their food. the others thought their dishes were mediocre, particularly for the price/style of the restaurant and as the dishes were recommended by the wait staff. Ambiance was very nice and overall we enjoyed ourselves-- when we gave direct feedback on the food, they comped a dessert which was really amazing. Definitely recommend the burger with fries, was just what I was looking for.
I have been to this restaurant 5-6 times now. We went there recently for Valentine's day and they had a pre-set menu with wine pairings that was very good. To my surprise (and good for my wife) they also had a smaller menu that you could order from if the pre-set menu just wasn't your thing. The flexibility was a welcome change from most restaurants on special occasion dates. We also had dinner in the library with the fireplace roaring near us...very nice, but I am not sure if this was set up just for Valentine's day to accommodate the overflow...if so, a nice surprise (very cozy and romantic). Overall, Adobe el is a great place for dinner or lunch (try the tortilla soup if you are there for lunch - delicious!).
After being left standing in the foyer for 10 minutes without a "Hello", a table was grudingly set for me. I sat there for another 5 to 10 minutes surrounded by a sea of dirty tables without water or a server stopping by. Get the idea? Service was awful, food medicore and the surroundings were awful. I'd leave the hotel and eat elsewhere.
Our party of 6 sat comfortably outside were able to linger at the table and talk without interruption. Annie, our server, could not have been better -- she was pleasant, capable and fun, and made our experience at Adobe el Restaurante just perfect! I had been to the restaurant before but my colleagues had not, and they were very impressed. I think we'll be back soon!
The restaurant exceeded our expectations. We dined off of the restaurant week menu, but the service was provided to the level of a normal diner (not the case in our experiences with all restaurant week locations). All 6 courses we tried we excellent and each would call us back. The outdoor seating was beautiful. Our table overlooked a courtyard with fountain and felt like we were in a secluded hacienda, not in the middle of San Diego. We will definitely be attending this restaurant again soon.
I wasn't able to go to the restaurant, but my family said that the food wasn't that good. The filet was a hunk of meat that wasn't flavorful and was stringly, like a roast. The complimentary valet parking and outdoor dining area was nice. We won't be returning for a meal.
When booking the reservation for the Mother's Day Brunch, it wasn't clear at all, that brunch didn't start until 11:30. Our reservation was at 10:30 and ended up being for the regular breakfast buffet. By the time we relized the mistake, we were already full from eating at the breakfast buffet and I was disappointed because I wanted to treat my wife to the same wonderful brunch we'd enjoyed in the past. Fortunately, the manager realized my frustration and disappointment on this special day, and solved the situation to my satisfaction. As a result, we will definately be back for a wonderful brunch in the future. I would suggest it be more clear on the reservation site as to the exact time that brunch begins though. Thank you kindly.
