Admiral Risty Ratings and Reviews
I love the Risty, live 5 min away and get a better table when I don’t reserve with open table. Tonight was the worst table. Waitress was awesome. Other staff not so much. Timing of food service was off. This restaurant isn’t cheap, so good service from all should be a given. Staff should be friendly.
Family has been going here for over 40 years. Never disappointed, food is very good, large portions, always fresh, known for their blue cheese dressing they make. It's a little expensive but the food is worth it. The servers are very attentive and go out of their way to offer excellent service. Would definitely recommend you give them a try it's worth the view.
The Risty has endured. Consistently high quality food, professional wait staff, owners who care you’ve chosen to spend your dollars with them and then there’s always the ocean view.
They say what’s old becomes new and it’s rare to be able to find places like the Risty, where you know the food will be comforting and satisfying and you will be welcomed by the entire staff.
The salads are beautiful and fresh, the seafood excellent and never frozen, and for meat lovers, the marinated tri tip, superb.
Do yourself a favor and visit, they still serve cheese for nibbling, in the bar!
This place is so overpriced it is ridiculous. When you combine that with a nasty waitress that snaps back at you when asking for a fork or extra salad dressing, it just makes you want to get out of their as soon as possible. The tables are so closely spaced I was bumping into the guy on the table behind me. Also, the waiters had to reach across the table to serve since they could get to my section of the table. I practically had to yell at the waitress since it was so loud. Not relaxing or enjoyable. Not worth $40 for a steak. Complete waste of money.
Admiral Risty's is always a good place for a special dinner. We've been there for birthdays, our wedding anniversary and New Year's Eve. You can always count on excellent service and fine food. It's locally owned, not some nameless chain. It's been there more than a half-century. There's reason for that.
Admiral Risty is our favorite restaurant in the area (PV + Redondo). It is an institution and has a local charm. The service and food is always excellent. It can be a place for a nice dinner/date but they also accommodate families well. It is not a contemporary or stuffy atmosphere but that is why we love it. Window tables have a great ocean view. Sea Bass Almondine is the best we’ve had.
We enjoyed our new year's eve dinner at the Admiral Risty. However I didn't think the Cioppino that I had was up to par but it was a popular evening and the place was packed. Also the seating in the passage between the main and south dining rooms can be distracting with all the staff hustling back and forth. My wife's scallops were excellent and the potato and vegetable sides were great. They have nice bread but I prefer their rolls which weren't available this night. Our server was cheerful and stopped in at just the right frequency.
I think next year we'll have our New Years celebration a day early though.
What I love about this place is the Ocean view and its rustic decor. Sunday brunch is a great disappointment, however the manager came to our rescue and provided us with the regular menu, which the waitress would not do. This is the second time our waitress was not helpful, but not as bad as the other waitress who went downright rude on us. Thank God the manager is excellent and so far has rectified any mishandling.
We have been customers at The Risty since it opened. My brothers worked there, my future sister-in-law worked. We no longer live in the area but the Admiral Risty is one of our absolute go-to places. All we can say is thank you for consistent wonderful everything. Did I mention the blue cheese dressing?
I love coming here to watch the sunset while enjoying oysters and a drink. It was a birthday celebration for my best friend with the ladies. Had fun planning our get away. Love the seafood but this time was disappointed with the lobster - too tough and the New York steak was also tough. We enjoyed the Caesar's salad with the anchovies and the baked potato with all the works.
What happened? Last time 2 times (about a year ago) food and service were superb. This time, not so much. On a Thursday evening, salmon or shrimp smelled slightly 'fishy' (could smell it when arrived at companion's place setting). Salmon bland. Sauteed scallops w/ linguini was 'ok' -- could have used carmelization, but fair size, number. Too much garlic [?]. Waiter was noticeably new (a little fumbly, mumbly). Wife found a fish bone baked into bread. Waiter apologized took away wife's bread plate and took quite awhile to return with another bread plate. Other plates under seasoned. Risty's seems to have its ups and downs, but then again we only visit it maybe 2-3 times a year. For family of 4 was > $200, with no booze. Poor value for quality-level this time arond. As usual great view, but too crowded to sit near window.
I hadn't been here in a while so I thought I'd give it another try. It was not very good. They offer "fresh" fish but I'm pretty sure my halibut was frozen. The quality of the food is just lacking. My friend ordered linguini & clams and got a bowl of mainly shells. I won't be going back.
Admiral Risty's had been recommended to us by my daughter and we were anxious to try it. My wife had petrale sole and I had the steak Neptune (steak, shrimp, asparagus, bernaise sauce) which was delicious. Normally I would order something a bit more calorie conservative but this evening I decided to put aside the forever diet and splurge. It was a good choice. The service was excellent, the ambiance; looking out and seeing the ocean added a wonderful quality to the evening, and overall I would give them very high marks.
