Admiral Risty Ratings and Reviews
What happened? Last time 2 times (about a year ago) food and service were superb. This time, not so much. On a Thursday evening, salmon or shrimp smelled slightly 'fishy' (could smell it when arrived at companion's place setting). Salmon bland. Sauteed scallops w/ linguini was 'ok' -- could have used carmelization, but fair size, number. Too much garlic [?]. Waiter was noticeably new (a little fumbly, mumbly). Wife found a fish bone baked into bread. Waiter apologized took away wife's bread plate and took quite awhile to return with another bread plate. Other plates under seasoned. Risty's seems to have its ups and downs, but then again we only visit it maybe 2-3 times a year. For family of 4 was > $200, with no booze. Poor value for quality-level this time arond. As usual great view, but too crowded to sit near window.
I hadn't been here in a while so I thought I'd give it another try. It was not very good. They offer "fresh" fish but I'm pretty sure my halibut was frozen. The quality of the food is just lacking. My friend ordered linguini & clams and got a bowl of mainly shells. I won't be going back.
Admiral Risty's had been recommended to us by my daughter and we were anxious to try it. My wife had petrale sole and I had the steak Neptune (steak, shrimp, asparagus, bernaise sauce) which was delicious. Normally I would order something a bit more calorie conservative but this evening I decided to put aside the forever diet and splurge. It was a good choice. The service was excellent, the ambiance; looking out and seeing the ocean added a wonderful quality to the evening, and overall I would give them very high marks.
Admiral Risty is celebrating its 50th year anniversary and you can see why they've lasted this long. Great location, food all made in house, delicious fish and friendly competent wait staff. Have your fish prepared the way the owner has his broiled with a combination of Almandine and Cajun seasoning. Wow!
Definitely make reservations and stuff your wallet because it is not cheap but at the same time it is proof that the economy is doing well. You will be gratified to be served an absolutely delicious fish dinner. Pass on the bread because its just okay to save room for the generous portions of your dinner. Yes there is a place you can go for great quality and a totally satisfying fish dinner in the South Bay.
We had not been for some time and were glad to see it was still great. We had brunch. My wife had the waffle and it was above average. The rest of us had the Eggs Benedict and they were perfect. The eggs were perfectly done which is not often the case. The sauce was obviously home made and was served in a separate container so you could put as much or as little as you wanted. The potatoes were good but not exceptional. A lovely fruit compote was served first. The price was expensive but not above what one would expect for this quality of food, a good value.
I had high expectations that were not met. Our dinner was OK, clam chowder was excellent. In our minds, after dinner was finished, it turned out to be just an average (i.e., OK, but not excellent) experience. "Waterfront dining" may be misleading in that the restaurant is probably at least a quarter mile from the surf line, and it overlooks a busy thoroughfare. Staff was great: attentive and professional.
We had excellent service from our very friendly and helpful waiter, Jimmy! As usual, our dinners were excellent (fresh swordfish; fresh halibut). I'm so glad that we made reservations for Saturday night at 5:30pm . I didn't expect the restaurant to be full at that time, however everyone was there early to watch the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean at 7pm.
Thank you to Jimmy and the Manager, Tim for taking great care of us.
What a fantastic restaurant! My Fiancee and I love this new find. I ordered broiled Atlantic salmon with lemon. The asparagus was tender and sweet. Served with a crisp Cesar salad…so fresh and cool. Everything was so fresh! We were greated at the door with the friendliest hosts. The waiter was geniune, friendly, attentive and spent the time to describe the specials (and I changed my mind for the Salmon special). Admiral Risty went out of their way to take care of us! What a great place along the Big Blue Pacific! Just driving there is a pleasure. Try it!
Very nice dinner. Waitress was amazing and so friendly. I just wish they offered a special dessert for special occasions. My husband and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary and chose to come here rather than our normal Ruth's Chris steakhouse dinner but it just wasnt the same. Maybe for just a regular night out this place would be nice but not so much for a celebration.
The meal was excellent, beginning with oysters, followed by rack of lamb and ice cream with blueberry compost. The server, Jimmy, was competent and friendly. The only reservation we have is that the restaurant is a bit crowded, making it difficult to navigate.
