Adelphia Restaurant has been our "Go To" venue when in the Deptford area. We live 45 minutes away, and often make this trip just to enjoy lunch, dinner or special event. We consistently make this our pre-show dinner before each new production at the Walnut Street Theater in Philly (we're annual subscribers).
So over time, we've experienced a range of menu changes, and servers. So my review can best be summed in PROs and CONs.
1) The menu is broad, with a nice range of "Specials" that typically include soup, salad, entree and dessert at decent price points.
2) The food is very good, is ample and a nice presentation.
3) The staff (hostess and servers) are coordinated in dress, and presentable. The hostesses have all been welcoming and the staff at the 'desk' are friendly and helpful.
4) The interior is well appointed, the bar (although in the middle of the restaurant), is attractive and fairly isolated from patrons having their own meals and conversations. Adelphia Restaurant has a fair number of large windows, so patrons desiring a window location is likely to get a seat.
5) Restrooms are offered on the first floor, but larger, accommodating facilities are up a short flight of stairs.
1) The menu has undergone a bit of revision replacing what was offered (Soup AND Salad) for now Soup OR Salad). And there is now an upcharge for Caesar which makes no sense given that the Caesar isn't elaborate, made table side, or contain anything more than romain, croutons and dressing. The dressing (if that's the logic for $2 increase) isn't all that special.
2) There have been several occasions where the food is lukewarm, or in the case of shrimp - not fully cooked. The kitchen corrects any issues, but that means the patron ends up waiting while other party members eat. I wouldn't raise this criticism, except it's happened more than once.
3) Some servers are a bit abrupt. We've requested some items on a separate plate, and they still end up on the main plate.
Restaurant was very busy and noisy. Had the brunch buffet; disappointed in the amount of food available; many things were not available. Would not go again for the buffet.
Great food selection for the price, server was a little slow clearing plates. All the station attendants were pleasant. The hostess was amazing in explaining the layout
Everything was great ! Upon arrival, they greeted us right away and had us seated within 5 minutes. Our hostess was on point from start to finish. Good was prompt and hot.
The food portions are very big and delicious. The server was a bit slow so we were there longer than expected.
Great atmosphere! Good food!
The only issue was I still waited 30 min. When I had a reservation. What’s the point of the reservation? Other than that, great food great service, nice atmosphere would definitely return!!
Veal parmigiano was very heavily breaded and the veal was quite thick. Prime rib was dry. Steak had a lot of gristle.
Birthday party.....,they never mentioned a 25$ cake fee on the spp
I would definitely recommend Adelphia and I would definitely go back again.. only thing I didn’t like was the seating we were seated like in the middle of the room so all night we had to keep moving or ducking cause waiters were coming pass with food we felt like we were an inconvenience or “in the way”.
Great food and customer service it was a great time for my wife’s Birthday
Went to see Lisa Lisa. Great night out!
Great food and service. Definitely going to visit again.
Our server Hakeem was the best. Our next visit, I add would definitely ask for Hakeem.
The timeliness of our meal was great and the food was delicious and appetizing. We ended with leftovers and no room for dessert.
I made reservations for 10 through opentable. The service and food was excellent. When we arrived we sat down to a table that had been prepared with baskets of rolls already there. So good too.
We had a great meal and the prices were reasonable.
We took my Mother in law to Adelphia for her birthday, while I was ok..that is all I can say. We sat at 12:15 p.m. so maybe if we were there earlier it would have been better. The chocolate "fountain" was basically frozen stiff since there is only so long you can keep those fountains moving before the chocolate re-solidifies, so it looked like a big, nasty mess. Just stick with the fresh fruit and ditch the fountain. The food was ok, but the serving area was not cleaned up enough so there were remnants of food that people dropped and just left, this looks terrible when you are trying to eat. The food itself was ok, not great-not bad. It is ok for a quick brunch but to plan something and go here, I would not recommend it.
We enjoyed the experience ,very beautiful surrounding, woud definitely return. Happy birthday john....
Amazing spread for all you can eat brunch for a very good price. Best brunch I have be to in a long time
We had a small family group here for a luncheon. Making a reservation was easy. The service was excellent. The menu was varied and extensive, great prices, and the food was excellent. Our server was very attentive and did a fantastic job.
Good food service and ambience
New waiter was a little anxious but got the job done. Crowded as usual but not too noisy. Enjoyed!
Anniversary Dinner for 2
First we had to wait for our reservation. It took 20 min to get a cup of coffee once we sat and once we were done it took maybe 30 min to get our bill and actually pay. We were in a room along with many large parties. I never had such an annoying experience here. Makes me not want to go back anytime soon.
Overall the experience at Adelphia was very nice. The flatbreads we had chosen were very good. The ambience was nice. The hostess staff was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was alright. We waited some time for him to take our order and then had to ask twice for boxes for food. He was polite. Overall a good experience.
Service has changed dramatically. Had to wait long time between soup and entre. Waitress did not return with let yup be asked for, in a timely manner..had to ask some wine else and also for being average e refills for 4 people.
Room we sat in was nice and bright. Brunch buffet had so many selections. Could have breakfast, lunch and dessert. Food was good.
Dinner was absolutely delicious. There we’re fewer specials than I remember. There was an excellent gluten free vegan option for me (Fire roasted mushrooms with potatoes and asparagus) and gluten free bread. Our party had a wrap, a sandwich, stuffed flounder and pasta. Service was attentive. Only issue was that my daughter requested no tomatoes and there were tomatoes in her wrap.
Very nice dinner, great service, fair pricing
Delicious food, great prices, beautiful setting! Our waitress was very nice and very helpful with our menu selections, they even sung happy birthday to my sister.
Food was delicious, great atmosphere. Sunday brunch is busy so make a reservation!
We were sat next to some sort of party going on. So it was extremely noisy for our family having dinner. The food was disgusting, way way less than subpar. Not even mediocre. Just horrible. I had mussels in a garlic white sauce. And the white sauce was thick, like they started it as a rue. I'm italian I make it at home, that was not right. And the mussles were fishy. My daughter got a margherita pizza and it was soggy. Tasteless, soggy amateurish food. And this place is a venue for weddings....dont do it!!
When I dined at Adelphia two years ago, the food was excellent. However, my most recent dining experience was a big disappointment. I ordered the fried fish trio, which consisted of fried flounder, scallops, and crab cake. It tasted like a frozen TV dinner.
Three of my guests who ordered the Halibut and shrimp entree were also disappointed with how dried out the fish tasted.
We were seated on arrival. Waitress got our drinks. We ordered, got our salads, soup, meal and the waitress checked on us to see if everyone was satisfactory. Very pleased.
Went out for my parents Anniversary and my niece's birthday last night (Wednesday). I made sure to note this in the reservation along with my niece's name. No one even acknowledged it until I approached the dessert counter after dinner. kids meals were supposed to be free but I was charged for them. I work in the service industry so I always make leave a generous tip for my servers, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the service. To top it all off, Gina the balloon girl (the reason we chose to come to Adelphia's) was not there. The other lady was alright but Gina's balloon work is much better and more detailed, leaving my kids disappointed. To sum it up, I was overcharged, my server, while very nice, was a bit slow and not as attentive as I would have liked.
Used to be much better...wait service not as attentive or detail oriented.
Was even overcharged for my menu item.
This is not my first time but they never disappoint , very professional!
I first learned about Adelphia restaurant from my client. She treated me to Adelphia for my birthday. So I brought my Husband for his birthday and invited guess they all loved the atmosphere and the food . We all look forward to coming again.
Thanks for a great service.
Food was pretty bland than usual. Asked waitress for paper napkins and was told they no longer provide paper napkins to their patrons. Our drinks were never refilled. Disappointing experience.
We had a large party of 9. Once everyone arrived they had already set up the table and we were seated. We were there on a Wednesday and they have specials. Four (4) of us had the chicken parm with salad & glass of wine. Food was good. The server had other large parties and did a good job handling all her tables. When we asked for a group picture our server had someone else take the picture so that was nice. Great to get together with friends and Deptford was a central location. They seem to always greet you with a smile when you arrive and a smile to say good night.
