Adega Restaurante Ratings and Reviews
We had an exceptional experience. We were fortunate to have been given a very private little dining nook, that only improved on the experience. The seafood dinner was delightful, and the servers were highly professional, appropriately attentive without being intrusive, and had excellent knowledge of the menu options. This was a top notch experience, worthy of the price paid.
Great evening! Loved the Grilled Squid appetizer and the Linguine with Tiger Shrimp! Creme Brulee was also fabulous. My husband loved his Sea Bream special but thought his chef's soup lacked some flavour; he wished he had had the Grilled Squid when he tasted mine. This was our 3rd-4thtime dining at Adega and we will definitely be back again. Our server, who was Portuguese, was outstanding! Very attentive to every detail! A very enjoyable evening! Highly recommend!
Adega is the only restaurant in Toronto I would describe as "consistently amazing." I have been eating at Adega for years and it is my go-to special occasion dinner spot. I have treated friends and family (from around the globe) to dinner there and everyone comments on the hospitality, great food and great vibe.
They have honed the menu and still offer many (many!) specials. I appreciate a well edited wine list which offers reasonable prices for wines by the glass to bottles.
The Portuguese hospitality, seafood and wines are not to be missed whether you are visiting Toronto or are a native.
Service was impeccable, very attentive and cheerful. We love the familiarity even though it was our first time. Love the warm interior and well spaced between tables. We were at Sorel recently and despite the rave, we did not like the noise level there and the cramped tables. We absolutely loved the food at Adega and was very pleasantly surprised it was better than Chiado. The shrimp bisque was very delicious per hubby. I had the grilled sardines and it was perfection. Mom had the salted cod quenelles and it was perfect. We shared everything. For main, hubby had the specials Lamb chops ($42) and I had the absolutely delicious Saffron Seafood Risotto. Mom couldn't handle an entre herself and ate ours. She ate more than we expected for a 92 year old and she kept on digging into my risotto and raved about the Lamb 2 dozen times. She told my siblings about that world's best Lamb chop. Mom is a world traveler and has eaten in the best (River cruise, QE2, etc..). Wine was delish as well. Thanks to mom helping herself to our entres, we had room for dessert and coffee (yum). Hubby had the creme brulee and raved about it. I had the Medeira poached pears and loved it. It was cold and very refreshing. Mom also loved it all. I banned dairy and the restaurant was very accommodating towards my dishes. Please come to this lovely little gem. Sad I didn't bring my camera.
The wine selection while not extensive had some great selections. We started with the mussels which were some of the best I've ever had. Was a bit concerned that the rest of the meal would be a let down after the mussels but the mains were just as good. I had the fish stew which was packed with different types of seafood in a broth that had just enough of a bite to make if interesting. My better half ordered the salmon with pineapple compote and she loved it as well. The creamy desserts and cappuccino were a great finisher. Highly recommend that you reserve a booth for a romantic dinner for 2 to 4 people.
The service was excellent. All the wait staff were friendly and professional. We went for dinner before the theater and they made sure that we were served promptly without rushing us. We sat at a booth that felt very private and quiet. The food was very good but I was expecting more choices of traditional Portuguese dishes. All in all a great place for dinner.
Authentic Portuguese seafood dishes, cooked to perfection. Having traveled extensively on the mainland, in our opinion,
Adega's food, matched what we ate in Portugal. Our server, Christian from Lisbon himself, was efficient and friendly and recommended a wonderful Vino Verde for us. Our signature dishes, the seafood stew came with a wonderful tomato based broth, two kinds of fish salmon and a white fish, clams, squid and mussels, very tasty with the lovely local bread. Our other dish was grilled octopus, capers, bed of greens, potato and salsa was also cooked to perfection. Finished off with a wonderful port from the Douro region....will be back again next time we are in that area of Toronto.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend. When we first walked in, it was not at all busy, so I was afraid we had made a mistake by going there. We were promptly greeted by Mario and shown to our table. Mario was attentive and explained menu and answered any questions. I chose the daily special which was Arctic Char. It was excellent! Nicely grilled and served with scalloped potatoes, and fresh veg which were served piping hot and cooked to perfection. The fish stew was also excellent. Would definitely recommend.
Only down side for us was my husband asked the waiter for 2 checks, but he gave us one with the costs split. It was a really big deal, but our friends had wine and we didn't. It really wasn't a big deal, but More attention needs to be given to these kinds of request in future!
Appetizer: Petisco Platter, $35: 5/5, so delicious and really interesting mix of authentic food.
My Main: Cataplana Fresh Fish Stew, $32: also 5/5, delicious broth, and a lot of good seafood.
Her Main: Saffron Seafood Risotto, $28: 0/5... honestly some of the worst risotto either of us have ever had. No flavour, at all. It seemed like the chef just forgot to add any spices, including salt or pepper... We should have sent it back (20/20 hindsight).
Dessert: Dark Lindt Chocolate Mousse Cake, $8.95: 5/5, so rich with flavour, and amazing texture. I wish we got 2.
Wine: 5/5, great wine list, we really enjoyed our bottle.
Service: 5/5, great staff, very attentive and fantastic personality.
Everything was so fantastic, except the risotto, which was extremely disappointing and kind of soured the whole experience since my entree was just so much better than my girlfriends. I don't think we would go back, since we ordered the things on the menu that we really wanted.
