Fantastic! Came here before a show at the Performing Arts Center. Best paella and sangria we've ever had. Also had the appetizer that they flambe table side. The wait staff could be friendlier, but perhaps that is part of the charm? We'll definitely be back. We had a wonderful time.
Awesome atmosphere, service and excellent food !!
Great all around S/P rest that has become my go to place to eat in Newark
Somewhat expensive, but food taste was extremely delicious!!!
We needed a nice dining experience before seeing a great Modern Dance Show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and did not want to settle for overpriced, subpar food and service in that venue (according to other reviews) . We opted for Adega Grille because it was favorably reviewed on Open Table and was in walking distance to the Train Station and the performance venue. We were very pleasantly surprised at just how good the food, service and ambience were -- authentic, comfortable and yet elegant. The walked turned out to be a rainy one, but that did not dampen our group's pleasure with this choice for our early pre-show dinner.
Absolutely delicious meal in a cozy setting on Ferry St. The bacalao was particularly tasty as it was baked in a mildly spicy tomato sauce that added a zesty flavor. We had lots of bacalao in Portugal but this was really tasty...kudos to the chef. Note the portion size is very large...most entrees can serve 2.
As the meal can to an end plates were removed quickly even though some were still eating and we felt little rushed to finish...so we passed on dessert.
The food is overpriced and they tried to charge me 20% tip for only 2 people. DONT TRY THIS PLACE
I drive 45 minutes to come here. The food is off the charts, from beginning to end and all in between , it has never disappointed me or whoever we bring here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Very nice ambience and excellence service. We had the octopus appetizer and it was delicious. The seafood was well prepared and very fresh. Would definitely return.
Definitely one of the better Portugese restaurants we have been to in the area.
It was very clean, the atmosphere is nice, the staff is very attentive and the food has a lot of flavor and is delicious! The portions are a good size. We especially enjoyed the garlic shrimp appetizer and the skirt steak. If you don't find parking on the street they do have a parking lot around the corner.
We were seated in the most romantic booth which is literally carved out of the brick wall. I could have spent all night in this spot drinking Champagne and eating their lovely grilled food but we had tickets to Shen Yun and therefor would only have an hour to enjoy our beautiful setting. We opted for the grilled shrimp which were perfectly cooked but had a tad too much garlic, that was followed by the lobster tail and crabmeat stuffed avocado which was as pretty to look at as my date but the lobster was a bit tough the main course was one of the evenings specials; a wonderful veal chop that was extremely tasty and accompanied by potatoes, rice, broccoli and asparagus. The service was also very good. I love this grotto like Place in the heart of Newark.
Amazing experience! Food was divine. Service was exceptional. Definitely coming back to have dinner again soon.
Jewel in Ironbound. Traditional Portuguese kicked up a notch. Service is impeccable. Food is inventive and plentiful. We began with flaming chorizo and shrimp with garlic sauce. Each ordered own entree which is far too much food to eat! I had a special- ahi tuna (cooked perfectly rare) on a bed of octopus (large bites) risotto, topped with smoked salmon. The earthiness and saltiness was superb! Others enjoyed ahi tuna with veggies in champagne sauce, porterhouse steak, and stuffed shrimp. We also had a pitcher of red sangria. I drink a lot of water. My glass was never more than half empty- always being refilled. This was our second time dining here, won’t be our last. Make reservations!
We had a great time for my Aunt’s 80th birthday. The only downside was the fact that there was a private party going on and the noise levels from the side room was a little disheartening.
This place was amazing! I was in town with a friend for a concert. We had the sangria, some tapas, the paella, and tres leches. I couldn't stop eating. Absolutely delicious. Carlos, the owner, was also very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area again.
Back again, this time just catching up with the family. Enjoyed an intimate dinner starting with some Portuguese sausage, garlic shrimp, and octopus. We followed that with a seafood platter and a rib eye marinated in white wine. Nothing short of great taste and another fantastic experience.
A cut above the rest for Iberian food in the Ironbound.
Good food and drinks. Close to prudential center. Good with reservations when busy.
Our party of 4 were going to a show at the Prudential center. Very busy place; free parking around the block; very, very noisy but food + flavors were delicious!
This is my third time at this venue and the service and food has not changed. Good food and good service. Although there was a mix up with our reservation, they were still able to accommodate us.
This was my first time at Adega and first time having Portuguese food, after hearing so many wonderful things about this cultural area. It exceeded my expectations.
Our servers were most polite and helpful with choices.
The food and services were outstanding. Our experience was wonderful.
Food was outstanding and portions were bountiful. Service staff was attentive, helpful, and friendly.
The kids are on spring break so we went out for family dinner. The food was delicious; fresh and prepared quickly. The servers were nice and made my little girls feel special. We will be back!
When we first arrived, the waiter who greeted us was not friendly or welcoming. However, the busboy and another waiter who poured us water was very nice. My date ordered food that once it came, she did not care for, so we decided to order her something else. When I said this to the waiter, he was very rude and stated that he could not take the food off the bill because she got what she ordered. He then got the manager, who was just as equally rude and condescending to us. One, I never once asked for the food to be taken off the bill; I simply asked for my date to get something else. And two, the manager accused me of having an attitude with him when clearly he never once heard or acknowledged my request of ordering something else for my date. When he finally arrived with a menu, she didn't want to order anything else because she was displeased with how rude the staff was. We will never be patronizing this restaurant, nor will my company, who frequently utilizes their restaurant for our events.
If I could give you more than 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I would! Everything - from the bread, the sangria, down to the entrees and the vegetables was excellent! Top-notch staff too.
Food came quickly, they asked us if we were going to a show. Arrived at 6:15 on a Saturday night, out by 7:35.
Crazy huge portions, I got the T-bone steak with sausage and shrimp, my date got the seafood stew in verde sauce.
Was my first date with my girlfriend. had to reschedule twice because we were running late and we were accommodated. got there and the ambiance was relaxing. the waiters were alover us trying to make us feel relaxed and making us lack nothing. as the night went by we got more comfortable and relaxed there. will definitely be back there
Restaurant was great. Seating was cozy and food was delicious! Staff was excellent and very attentive. Price was reasonable as well. Very convenient having their own lounge connected right next door if you wanna hang out until after 10:30 or have a late dinner. Only negative is that parking is tough. Other than that I would definitely recommend this spot and I will be back!
Service was okay but VERY tight seating areas especially upstairs dinning...used to be more spacious, and was sat in tight corner which wasn’t what I was used to...Sangria was good but mostly juice had four pitchers within a group of 4 ppl and we barely got a alcohol buzz..and lastly felt rushed out and menu prices were slightly higher than the other seafood Portuguese/Spaniard restaurants in the area.
Adega grill was simply amazing from the entrance of the restaurant until the finish line dessert. Classy romantic place with amazing food definitely a gem in iron bound. I took my girl friend and her dad to dine there are and the experience was outstanding.
Good cocktails, very good food, generous portions. Big advantage was the free off the street parking around the corner. Fried calamari was outstanding. The white sangria was very good.
This is a gem in the Ferry Street Spanish/Portuguese restaurant area of Newark. The food was fresh, delicious and big! The ambience with the wine cellar feel and fireplaces makes it a great place for a romantic dinner or gathering with friends. The service was superb! I highly recommend it.
Older man who sat us was not very nice and seemed to be annoyed with my husband and myself so I was skeptical. The rest of the evening was great. Waiters very attentive and the food was very good. Would return
I went to Adega with a group of friends who traveled to meet me there. We waited over 45 minutes to be served after placing our order and our food was luke warm. Was very disappointed.
Small lobster tails, overstuffed with crabmeat stuffing. Not a very good value but very tasty.
The food was outstanding and the wine and sangria was awesome
