Fantastic family style dining ala Thomas Keller. Fun atmosphere and delicious food.
Great food, especially the spicy buttermilk chicken!
The meal was an enjoyable experience. The quality of the food was about as expected, good but not exceptional. It was pleasantly served in an efficient manner. I felt that we could have spent the evening there or rushed through, it was up to us. I will definitely go back.
One of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Absolutely fantastic staff as well. Looking forward to eating there again.
This is my third visit to Ad Hoc for brunch. The last time I was there was around 5 years ago. I remember my earlier visits as above and beyond other brunch alternatives. This visit I would say they are still above average, but other than the fried chicken there was nothing outstanding about the meal. The mimosa's are overpriced at $14. The savory waffle and blueberry buckle were both on the dry side. I would try other places in the valley before I would return to Ad Hoc...
Breakfast. Chicken and waffles. Awesome!
The food was amazing. Our waiter was awesome! Had to wait 30 mins for our reservation though and it was a little too loud for my tastes.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Ad Hoc. The menu changes daily, but the quality is consistent.
The dish pairings are simply genius. On our last occasion, we started with the best potato salad I have ever had. The potatoes had been roasted, not boiled, and the addition of sliced asparagus was delightful. There was slowcooked porkbelly for the main course, and it was paired with a subtle polenta and some simple, yet flavorful, veggies (peas, button mushrooms and carrots in a broth reduction). The porkbelly was rich and flavorful, and the polenta and veggies, appetizing in their own right, also acted as palette cleansers so that the porkbelly never became overwhelming.
The waitstaff are always prompt, responsive and pleasant without being intrusive. This is my favorite restaurant in the United States and in my top 3 world wide.
My only criticism is that, and this is quite pedantic, the tables are a little on the small side. With all of the dishes on the table things can get a bit crowded. As I said, it is a pedantic criticism and should absolutely not deter you from visiting Ad Hoc.
P.S. get the addons, even if you have to take part of it home with you in a box. You will not be disappointed. I never am.
Burgers and half-bottles. Amazingly good food, not overpriced, and essentially perfect experience. Except they’d be even better with bacon.
Double birthday celebration and as always the staff went out of their way to make it a special experience!
We had such a good experience! Wonderful food and wine. We definitely y will be visiting this establishment when we're back in Napa Valley.
Family style set menu with a couple of options to add or swap. Always delicious and comforting.
It was sooo good! They even made me a special fried chicken batter just so I could avoid spice. So appreciated! Yum!!!!
The meals at Ad Hoc was simply amazing. Not only was the food so very delicious, but the service by both our waiter and other staff could not have been better. Probably one of the best meals we have ever had.
Love the atmosphere and food! Menus are fixed, family style and change daily. We went on Sunday and couldn’t have been happier - it’s a must try!
The highs: a bouchon brownie to die for and a great Kale Caesar salad. Otherwise, the food was ordinary— steak and fries prepared well but hardly anything to celebrate. Noise level very high, service below par for such an expensive venue. All in all, it felt a little bit like dinner by assembly line.
From someone who’s been to a Thomas Keller restaurant in Yountville, Las Vegas and NYC, Adhoc was a little disappointing. The restaurant it self was cute and inviting but the food was “MEH” we had the burger and half bottle and wine special and felt it was an average burger at best. Maybe it was an off day. We will see.
The experience was underwhelming, too noisy and overpriced.
Family style means sharing one entrée, yet paying the price for two....
Highpoint - the food was great, service not so great. Wait staff spoke too fast, rushed through the menu, did not even offer coffee or after dinner drinks. Seemed in a hurry to clear the table by placing the check on the table prior to us even asking for it.
Since it is the same price point as Bistro Jeanty, recommend going there instead.
Food = INCREDIBLE
Service = AWESOME
Just a tad loud but worth it. Had loads of fun!!!
Not wowed by the chosen menu for a Friday night; salad was okay, the hangar steak was bland and the cheese course was just an odd choice.
Delicious dinner! We all enjoyed the quality food and friendly atmosphere. We walked out with satisfied and full bellies!
Enjoyed our time at Ad Hoc. Been before but always good to go back. Will go again.
Family style done right! Different menu items each day but if you have a chance to try the Huli Huli chicken, it’s a must. Homemade bread was addictive! Great service, great atmosphere and will definitely be back.
Second time there. Really disappointed and likely will never go back. We were there on Sunday where the courses were Huli Huli smoked chicken, collard greens spam fried rice. Yes, you read that correctly, spam fried rice - which was way to salty. The chicken was too smoky, the sauce not very sweet, and the collard greens were just limp and moist. Option items were crab cakes and a beef dish. The only things that tasted good were the bread and the ice cream sundae (excellent chocolate sauce). The service was attentive and informed. All four of us there did not like the meal and would actually steer people away from the restaurant. The first time we were there 8 months ago the meal was good enough to come back, and the outdoor seating was delightful.
We were sadly disappointed in our dinner at Ad Hoc. The salad and dessert were fantastic, but the meal left us underwhelmed. Our expectation of a restaurant of this caliber was not met. since we had friends visiting us from out of the country we had hoped to impress them with the quality of food in the Napa Valley. The dinner of spam fried rice (yes spam from a can) was salty and the Hawaiian chicken was also salty with no other flavors to break through creating more of a balance. I am hoping when I go back to have a better experience.
Sunday brunch to cap off a wine country weekend. Best brunch in the wine country and beyond!
I’ve been dining here for quite sometime and thoroughly enjoy the food. I especially love the fried chicken.
As first-timers, we were lucky to get a brunch menu of chicken and waffles, plus salad, muffin, and eggs benedict for one of us. The salad was cold, the chicken hot, the waffles crispy, all delicious. We'll try dinner next time!
Food is always great. Menu is preset. Just pick a day when you like what's on the menu.
I’ve eaten here a dozen times and it has been outstanding every time. You have to be comfortable with trusting the menu since you don’t know what it is until the day of. Food is amazing high end comfort food and the service has always been tremendous. If I’m lucky I’ll get to eat here at least a dozen more times.
Surprise lunch menu - a burger today! The vegetarian Patty made with lentils (and other veggies) was also good. Acai frozen yogurt with berries was the best!
Loud. Loud. Loud. Famous chicken only available twice a month. Other nights fixed menu no choices.
We had a great dinner at ad Hoc Friday night. Every course was creative, full of flavors and delicious. The best grits I have ever had. The server was very good, attentive, and knowledgeable.
OMG!!! Handcrafted cocktails - fun and great! I LOVE the fact that it is a tasting menu that changes every day. You can customize it by adding a course which is fun. It is served family style which is great AND if everything has been eaten at a certain course you can order more, but don't be piggy - order what you will eat because I think that is great of them to do. The first course was an iceberg lettuce salad with buttermilk dressing. Doesn't sound too exciting, right?! These were baby icebergs just picked that morning from French Laundry's garden with herbs and other vegetables from the same place. I will dream of that salad for months. Great hangar steak, but I wanted to take a bath in the Bearnaise sauce. It was that good! Good wine list reasonably priced, but you can bring your own for a corkage. If you sit at the bar, you do not have to order the entire tasting menu - you can pick 1 or more courses! The service was amazing. Sarah, our server, made a fabulous experience even better.
So if the French Laundry is a bit out of your price range and you want to have fun - definitely go to AD Hoc!!!
The best meal I have ever had!
Fried chicken was the best! A must every other Monday... Bravo!
THE BEST FOOD IN NAPA. Seriously. I might be partial since I love fried chicken - but let me just say, getting to go here on Fried chicken night was a dream come true. Our meal started with the most delicious and decadent salad - the dressing was out of control. Then we had the chicken which truly was to die for, and came with melt in your mouth lentils and the best asparagus I've ever had. We ordered the additional Black Truffle Gnudi to share for the table (4 pcs for 3 of us was plenty)- and they were so rich, so refined, so out of this worldddddddddddd I almost didn't want any more chicken! We then received a cheese board with homemade focaccia and onion remoulade - as though it couldn't get any better. The dessert was an oaty peanut butter granola bar with BROWNIE ice cream. If I was on death row (or just like, anywhere with one final meal) - this would be the one I would need.
Food came out luke warm... second time in a row! How do you get this consistently wrong when you only have one thing on the menu???
Service was terrible. Might have been because we were the last sitting. So disappointing in a place we normally love.
Salad was great! Drinks were good over all I would go back
