About Ad Hoc
Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc + Addendum was originally intended to be a temporary restaurant, but due to its loyal following, it was decided that it must be a permanent fixture in Yountville. Ad Hoc serves a prix fixe, 4-course family-style menu, which changes daily, and embodies the comfort food reminiscent of the recipes Chef Keller's childhood. Addendum is the restaurant's seasonal outpost offering buttermilk fried chicken or BBQ picnic lunches to be enjoyed in the garden or taken to-go.

Ad Hoc Ratings and Reviews
We dine out fairly frequently and love to visit new and unique restaurants. Ad Hoc seemed a little gimmicky and the noise level was out of control. It could be that it was Valentine's Day and a different day might have been a different experience for us. It was nice to have the complementary glass of champagne and the food and service was ok, but did not quite rise to the level of some other dining experiences we've had in the recent past, hence our "just ok" review.
We really like Ad Hoc, the location, the food, and the concept. Its just high quality food, well prepared. Our most visit we were seated next to the waitstaff station at the kitchen exit which made for loud noise and conversations I didnt want to hear but that is the only negative I have about this restaurant. The food has been delicious every time, the staff has been excellent every time, I will continue to be a repeat customer.
Great day wine tasting with friends from Ohio. Early dinner. Service was amazing and friendly. Fixed menu and family style can be risky but AdHoc food was so good. The quality of the meal was outstanding. Asked for fish instead of menu beef and it too was perfect . Casual, fun and delicious. Highly recommend to anyone.
This was our second visit and we thought that the food was excellent as our other visit. The presentation is unique and that is why we love it. We were seated right away for our 5:30 reservation. Two Cons : noice level is terrible. There is nothing that you can do for it in that room. However the worst was the servers rushing us from the moment salads were served to the entre. It was obvious that they were trying to turn the table quickly. At least three times we “pushed”them away saying no we all were not done with our serving. This was bad for this level of dinning.
I thought the service was great but my fried chicken was cold and unseasoned. I think the chef forgot to sprinkle the finishing salt on them. We love the mixed green salad with the blood orange. That was the best tasting dish while the rest of the meal was just okay.
The fried chicken and lobster bene was to die for. Have gone here for dinner multiple times. Dinner also does no disappoint. A bit more crowded and noisy. First time to have brunch and it was great. Food was spectacular as always, not crowded. Very relaxing, service awesome as well. If you want to try the fried chicken and not eat here it can be ordered on line and picked up to go. For those fried chicken lovers, of which I am one, Keller’s fried chicken is one of the best I’ve tasted and not at all greasy or overcoated. It was crispy, flavorful and delicious.
The service and our waiter were fantastic. He was the nicest dude and gave us extras of a couple things like the apple pear sauce and another helping of dessert because he knew we’d love some more. One of my favorite restaurants now and the concept of Ad Hoc make sure you feel like home.
Why do I keep coming back to Ad Hoc? Simple...the restaurant's staff consistently produces great food that's creatively composed and served with energetic friendliness. My most recent meal was no exception. On the surface, the meal looked like any other that Ad Hoc has served over the years: salad, main course, cheese course, and dessert. But, the dish representing each course gave the meal a very subtle French theme. Once the theme was established, what was left to discover was how well that theme was executed. As usual, it was executed magnificently. We started with an endive and arugula salad. The salad was outstanding, highlighted by the wonderful interplay between the components (particularly the pickled red onions, the pine nuts, and the meyer lemon vinaigrette). The main course was grilled flank steak with broccolini, bearnaise sauce, and french fries...in other words, steak frites. The steak was a bit under-cooked (we asked for medium well) and the fries were a bit over-salted. But, the dish was a solid steak frites. There were actually four extra courses being offered. We veered off the French theme for a pork milanese. With the tender pork and the flavorful crust, it was one of the best milaneses I've even eaten. The cheese course was a cheddar with griddled bread and (the star of the course) an apple-pear sauce that perfectly complimented the cheese. Finally, dessert was a white chocolate pudding (mousse) with chocolate sauce, peanuts, and chantilly. The light desert was the perfect counterpart to the heavier main, extra, and cheese courses. Once again, I left Ad Hoc marveling at the thought that went into the meal and the execution that it took to pull it off. When a restaurant produces meals that challenge my intellect and nourish my hunger, I have to continue visiting that restaurant. And, that's why I'll be back at Ad Hoc again in the near future.
Loved Ad-Hoc! The vibe in the restaurant was really lively and comfortably casual and had really nice ambience as the evening wore on. The food was simple, but spectacular and the portions for family style were quite large.. We were all quite satisfied and full with food still left on the plate. The service was fast, friendly and informative. Substituting dishes for a vegetarian was very easy to do and all additional items on the menu were very tasty and well thought out. The food was so beautifully prepared and presented, we loved it all!
We have been to Ad Hoc three times in the past so we have several great meals to use for comparison. This last dinner was just as delicious and the service was excellent. The food, although simple in concept, tastes exquisite. The sunchoke gratin is a new favorite of mine and the steak was tender and super flavorful. Cooked to perfection.
We had a mixed experience for dinner. The food was excellent but service and atmosphere fell far below expectations. Our server was off putting and poorly trained, the wine list didn’t match the vintages they had on hand, the bartender was less than adept at making even one of their signature cocktails, and the restaurant was far too loud for comfort. ALL THAT SAID, after I spoke to management they did take steps to make the situation right and we definitely appreciated their efforts. I would definitely return and recommend that others do as well.
Thomas Keller inspired food should be enough to sell anyone on this place. The only caveat might be that the prix fixe menu may be off-putting for some on a given day. But I'd go any day of the week to eat this food. On this visit the meal started with a totally memorable potato salad unlike any you've had before and a roasted chicken half which was as tasty as any I've had. In summation: a meal here is worth a special trip, particularly if you have out-of-town guests who may know of Mr. Keller but can't swing French Laundry prices.
Great concept, great food and great service! Will definitely be back. Set, fixed-price menu changes daily. Meal was served family style. We were there for the flank steak with the option to add a pork chop Milanese. Both were exceptional. Sides paired beautifully- cauliflower & celery root gratin and peppered grits. The Creme brûlée was perfect.
