About Ad Hoc
Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc + Addendum was originally intended to be a temporary restaurant, but due to its loyal following, it was decided that it must be a permanent fixture in Yountville. Ad Hoc serves a prix fixe, 4-course family-style menu, which changes daily, and embodies the comfort food reminiscent of the recipes Chef Keller's childhood. Addendum is the restaurant's seasonal outpost offering buttermilk fried chicken or BBQ picnic lunches to be enjoyed in the garden or taken to-go.

Ad Hoc Ratings and Reviews
This American Bistro, family-style, large-party friendly restaurant was the right choice for our get-together. Pleasant, competent service anticipated whatever we needed. Food was excellent - delicious and perfectly prepared. Loved having a set menu because it meant that we could just sit back and enjoy the company without fussing over dinner selection. Can't wait to go back.
We experienced Ad Hoc on a Monday evening, one of the nights they serve fried chicken. We also had warm potato salad, a cheese plate and a brown sugar pudding. The chicken was barely warm and seemed to have lots of little bony pieces. It was fair but not great. It was also a busy evening and we were seated in a high traffic area which was distracting. The decor is definite underwhelming but it appears to be what the restaurant is going for. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant.
Amazing. We did the wine pairing with the prix fixe menu and everything was fantastic. We got there way early for our reservation but they still accommodated us by letting us sit out in the garden which was totally fine because it was a beautiful night (especially when they turned on the string lights). Elias (the general manager) was great to talk to, very helpful and super knowledgeable. Our only regret is that they weren't doing the fried chicken when we went -- so we'll probably have to come back soon!
Went with a friend for dinner. We had a nice time. The menu that day was: (1) Caesar salad; (2) Braised lamb shank with curried vegetables; (3) Toast, tomato jam and burrata; and (4) Lemon posset. We didn't opt for any of the add-ons because we felt the amount of food already on the core menu was more than enough, but they looked really good (gazpacho, a lobster dish, and corn). I had a glass of the Domaine Carneros rose to accompany the meal. All the food was good, but the curried vegetables and lemon posset were particularly tasty. I would definitely recommend if you want a nice 4-course (plus) meal for a reasonable price. There are definitely ways to pamper yourself if you want more. Just order the add-ons and it could even more fabulous. But, that would mean more time in the gym.
Affordable set menu in Napa. We had a Spanish/Mexican- centric menu with gazpacho, fajitas, a cheese course, and tres leches dessert. Portion size was great - apparently if it's not enough, you can ask for more. We couldn't fit in dessert so we took it to go - still tasty the next day.
7:30 reservation, we were seated at 8pm....which is not a great start to our meal. The menu was absolutely unimaginative and not terribly well executed. Arugula salad, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus and a waffle cone. Really? I expected so much more from Ad Hoc. The chicken was seasoned with salt and pepper and had an admirably crisp skin, but bordered on dry. The ice cream was tasty...but who orders a waffle cone in a restaurant!!!?! Cocktails and wine pours were ridiculously small. There was absolutely NOTHING special or remarkable about this meal. Service was ok but honestly not great. I could have made a more flavorful roasted chicken at home.
We had the pork short rib with tomatoes salad and spam rice. The tomato salad was pretty good - the pickled onions really made the dish - however it was way too large. We only ate half. The spam rice was surprisingly good albeit heavy and may or may not have been intentionally slightly burned. The portion of the pork ribs was too large and was dry and bland. We asked that the 4th course (a mushroom flatbread!?) not be served as we were stuffed by that point. The highlight was the dessert - a creme brûlée. It wasn't overly sweet and was a nice finish to an overly heavy meal. The service was good but we weren't seated for about 15 minutes after our 8pm reservation. Also, the noise level was very energetic and made it hard to have any conversation.
I worried about the hostess response after reading previous reviews. We did not have a negative encounter- table was ready when we arrived. The place is loud and hard to hear what is being served but the food was amazing. To much for your people. The crab Mac and cheese is heavenly!
Wonderful, amazing , delicious food!! One of the best meals I've ever had. Every bite has incredible flavor - food so well seasoned. I was there when steak was on the menu - just great. Only slight disappointment was wine pairings. Since in Napa, I think would be even better to have local wines. Don't miss this restaurant if you are going to Napa!!!
We've been going to Ad Hoc relatively regularly for the last 5 years. We're huge fans of Thomas Keller, having eaten at French Laundry, Bouchon, Addendum, etc..
This last visit to Ad Hoc was super disappointing. The service has gotten to a point that it feels like fast food - rushing through courses, careless presentation, etc.. And even more oddly, when I stopped to mention our experience to the hostess she literally walked away mid-sentence to go talk to a guest that the team had been fawning over all night. I hope it was a one off, but I don't think we'll be back to see for ourselves.
Loved the vibe of the place. Food was delicious. We would definitely recommend it to others. We were celebrating a special anniversary, and they remembered. Only thing we didn't like was that the bread was served cold and the butter was hard and cold. Other than that, we have a wonderful time.
Wonderful experience. Loved the concept of one menu. Everything was delicious - ribeye, corn on cob, mac & cheese, pretzel bites and dip, and ice cream sundaes - YUMMY! The service was outstanding - good waiter, good server. It all was awesome. So much food, but we ate it ALL.
Disappointing. Overrated. Flies were bothering us throughout the meal. Not impressed.
Fixed Sunday brunch menu
Acai bowl - fresh, nothing spectacular (3 of 5 stars)
Tomatoes - plain Jane (2)
Fig prosciutto toast - very good and best thing on the menu (5)
Chicken fried steak - tasty, but nothing I could not get elsewhere (3)
Chocolate chip banana bread - slightly dry my wife's is better (2)
1 bottle of rose - yummy
$240 before tip for a party of 4. Not going back and downgraded my desire to try French laundry.
It started badly as the front desk could not find our reservation even though open table had sent me an email confirmation. But because I could show them the confirmation, they had to find a table for us although they were very rude about it. After waiting for 30min, they finally seated us. The rest of the evening was great and other than what we encountered at the front desk, the rest of the staff were great!
Ad Hoc is a fantastic, first class restaurant that combines stellar food and service with casual family style dining and large portions uncharacteristic of other great quality restaurants in its lofty class. A daily, single four course menu is offered with a few additional items for the table and only extremely limited food substitutions for allergies and dietary restrictions. Our meal included amazing juicy pork chops, warm potato salad, aged cheddar cheese and chocolate tarts. Available additions that evening, all of which were excellent, included heirloom tomatoes from the French Laundry garden, bone marrow, and chicken wings in Caesar dressing. Service was first class. This restaurant is the buzz of the valley for its fantastic food (including its incredible fried chicken) and casual style. Kudos!
