Food was fabulous! Service was attentive and not over bearing. Our server was knowledgeable about the food and the wine selections.
Food was great as usual but the loud music was unbearable. Probably a staff member was a big rock concert fan but Thomas should stop by sometime to check on things. I asked our waiter to turn down the volume and he said OK but did nothing. The people at the next table complained too. I will not be back as I don't want to go deaf.
The food was delicious (and plentiful!) and the service was good. It’s pretty loud. I’d definitely come back.
Our reservation was for 7pm and we did have to wait for our table, but only a few minutes. The restaurant was busy and the service was efficient, but at first it was hard to know who our server was, three different people came to our table in the first few minutes. The food was very good but I would not describe the lobster pasta as a bolognese, it was more like a pasta with Thermadore sauce. The cheese plate was forgettable, but the dessert was pretty good.
The first time we went was in 2015 the food was out of this world! The second time we went was last Saturday night and the food was mediocre. I was disappointed :(
It was unusually loud, the waiters had to holler. It was impossible to have a conversation unless one was in the mood for hollering with the crowd. Food was great waiters too , overall experience , NOT GOOD. Will probably not go back.
We love the food preparation & quality. Great service
Not to be missed on any trip to Napa Valley. Fantastic food and atmosphere, with fresh local ingredients and inventive takes on classic comfort foods. Good wine list with a nice selection of price points. You can’t go wrong adding this to the list for your next trip.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Valley.
Ad Hoc never ever dissapoints! I go as often as I can and love the concept of having one menu that comes out daily. Usually simple food - but oh so tasty and a great combination throughout the meal. I just LOVE this place and only wish I could come more often!
I thought it was great. My wife did not like how noisey it was. Our daughter and son-in-law liked it too.
Fantastic food! While you cannot make your own selections, everything was outstanding. Be sure to order the chicken as an ad-on for the table. Well worth it.
Really disappointed- the sides and meat didn’t seem like they went together, and the spicy chicken was SO spicy you couldn’t even enjoy it (and we like spicy foods). Won’t be back.
The food was delicious, the service was on point, and they made sure we felt special on our anniversary.
Excellent as always. So happy that Ad Hoc was such a successful formula, that Thomas Keller decided to make it a fixture in Yountville, rather than just an ephemeral blip on the Napa Valley dining scene.
Did not enjoy the food at all
Had the Monday fried chicken, mac and cheese, salad, etc meal. Of course all dishes very good but not mind blowing as I would hope for a Keller restaurant. They made very good margins on that meal.
Wonderful experience! Check the website daily to see the set menu. If they happen to offer fried chicken as an add-on, endulge! Well worth it! Can be noisy on a weekend night though...
I felt like they just phoned this experience in. I understand the set menu. On the night we went it was rib eye steak and you could add the fried chicken. Thank god we added that, because the steak was tasteless and very dense for a rib eye. It was coated in a fake A1 sauce, which I guess was supposed to make up for the lack of flavor. The fried chicken was great. The garbanzo bean salad was good enough, but showed up with two forks for serving, making it hard to get on your plate. The sliced steak showed up with two spoons, so someone was obviously confised about what utensils go with what dish. The polenta side dish was seemingly absent of polenta and pretty salty. The pea and mushroom vegetable side was over cooked and unremarkable. Thank god for the build your own sundaes, they saved the entire meal in my opinion. Service was also phoned in. For the price, it was an absolute ripoff. I could have had a 5 course tasting menu at a number of restaurants that put a lot more thought into the experience. You are paying for the Keller name here, and certainly not getting his expertise. Avoid.
The fried chicken was absolutely delish! The other dishes were also good. The restaurant was super loud and we couldn’t hear our waiter or each other; there was a lot of yelling. We also had a reservation for 6:30, but didn’t get seated until a little after 7. We did appreciate the Champagne, but would have liked to eat closer to our scheduled time.
Nice time great food
Expected excellence, but very disappointed during brunch. Service and strawberry arugula salad were very good; carrot cupcake was good too.
The fried chicken and short rib hash were a miss. The fried chicken for some reason was lukewarm and not hot as you would expect from a deep fried chicken. We even sent it back and the second attempt was more of the same. I expected to see some steam and juices when breaking the thigh and legs, but none. Took a bite and it was not appetizing at all. Chicken was crispy, but bland coating and pretty bland sauce. The waffle was good...nothing to brag about though.
The short rib hash was again lukewarm, greasy and also bland. It seems like these items were cooked in a large batch and were sitting around. If it was under heat lamps, then it would be hot when served. The short rib hash needed some salt and some kind of sauce to break through the greasy-fatty taste.
Maybe I'm a little ghetto and enjoy Popeye's and all the stand alone Nashville hot fried chicken places and expected a burst of flavor when eating fried chicken. I'm not saying I'm a fried chicken expert, but I have a pretty good idea of what fried chicken should taste like.
Overall, I heard the name Thomas Keller and expected top notch quality food and flavor. Extremely disappointed in both, so this taught me a lesson of not being easily impressed with restaurants from big name chefs.
After multiple visits, this was our worst meal here ever. In the past, this was my favorite casual yet special restaurant. A place fit for foodies and fans of Thomas Keller.
The service was good but not as attentive as in the past. For example, there were multiple times that the staff came down the aisle to “check” on the tables, but my partner’s ice tea glass was not refilled. Perhaps they were checking on the status of the tables versus actually checking to see if the guest needed anything. In the past, I feel that would not have gone unnoticed.
The food was not up to the same levels that I have had in the past. We came for the pork chop and also got the beef katsu as the supplemental. Everything from the pork chop to the potatoes was covered in several sauces and none were good. The salad was overdressed, the breading of the katsu was falling off the meat, the pork chop slightly tough and overcooked and covered in sauce. I barely ate my pork chop and the staff person that cleared the table did not inquire whether I wanted to pack up the remainder nor since I did not finish, whether there was anything wrong with it.
The best things I ate were the cheese course and dessert.
Sadly, I do not feel unless you’re going for Fried Chicken night that this restaurant is worth your time not money.
We really enjoyed our meal and we opted for the wine pairing and it was perfect! So delicious!
I came here to celebrate my birthday. We were seated on the patio in near perfect weather. The staff was attentive and timing was perfect; no rush and time between courses. My only negative was that each course was delicious, but together came off a bit salty. Sardines in kale caesar followed by brined pork chops and slaw, followed by a cheese course. Any one dish was great, but those three dishes in a row and I was feeling it by the end. Dessert was delicious!! I would definitely come back though and would recommend to friends.
Very good food. Genorous portions. A great alternative if you can’t afford The French Laundry.
Good choice, central location and very acceptable daily fixed price menu concept. Options were expensive and not necessary. Perfectly cooked food served family style on large platters. Cheese “course” was miserly though. Wine list limited, no doubt on purpose and again a decent choice though bordering on expensive given the wines on offer. Altogether a terrific find, with warm, welcoming staff and truly lovely food. Shall certainly return.
This is my second visit to Ad Hoc. the food is very good, but the noise level inside makes conversation nearly impossible.
Outstanding preparation of fresh foods. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation elevated the experience. The add ons are a great addition, but can result in a lot of food.
Music is loud. Ambience is noisy and sloppy for a Tom Keller place. Butter was rock hard...server took it to kitchen and brought it back with very little change. Generally not what we expected for the price.
The previous 2 times we've been there the food has not been great as before...dumplings with cream corn way too heavy...portions snaller than before. Lemonade and mixed drink watered down, too pricey for what you get....
I wasn't very impressed with the food. I think it's an approachable price point for many people who want to experience Thomas Keller's kitchen, but the food itself was quite disappointing. Everything tasted fine-- good enough to eat and not complain. Nothing was remarkable or super delicious.
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to... top 3 in Napa
Definitely a must try in Yountville for Sunday brunch
We had supper here on our last night in Yountville. After dining at all of the upscale fancy food places we were ready for some good country cooking! Loved our stay in Yountville, dined at all the Thomas Keller restaurants. This was a great way for us to transition back to our regular food in Alabama!
It had been a year or so since we were last at Ad Hoc, and we were a bit disappointed. We were celebrating a friend’s daughter’s birthday, and I tried to order a little cake but my request seemed to fall through the cracks within the Bouchon group. They did put a candle on her dessert, but overall the experience was just OK. The portions were small, and service was perfunctory. I expect more from a Thomas Keller restaurant.
Totally outstanding! Waitress went beyond the call of duty.. Food was fantastic...
Fantastic food and service! We had dinner here last year our first trip to the Napa area and we couldn’t wait to come back again. The menu is set but it is sure not to disappoint...be ready to leave here well fed...the food just keeps coming and coming. Cheers!
I think I expected better but it was pretty good. The barley dish was different and exceptional.
