About Ad Hoc

Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc + Addendum was originally intended to be a temporary restaurant, but due to its loyal following, it was decided that it must be a permanent fixture in Yountville. Ad Hoc serves a prix fixe, 4-course family-style menu, which changes daily, and embodies the comfort food reminiscent of the recipes Chef Keller's childhood. Addendum is the restaurant's seasonal outpost offering buttermilk fried chicken or BBQ picnic lunches to be enjoyed in the garden or taken to-go.

Amazing in one word. Food was delicious and very flavorful. Best Caesar salad, hands down, with house made dressing, anchovies, and capers. The bone in ribeye was perfection at medium rare, fork tender, with a crisp outer crust. Cheese grits melted in your mouth. Brussels and phenomenally flavored sauce on house made dumplings. Cheese board after main course. Caramel butterscotch pudding with homemade ginger snap crumbs for dessert. Been married for 20 years and traveled extensively. This is in top 5 meals ever. Highly recommend.

Ad Hoc is consistently great! Service is fantastic and food is the best. You must go hungry because you will probably leave with food to take home. Best price value in Napa Valley. Check the website for the daily menu as it changes everyday, Also a great Sunday Brunch. Locals say you can sit st the bar and eat ala carte!

I gotta be honest, I was a little disappointed in my experience! We had a later reservation (9:15pm) and were greeted and shown to our table promptly which was great. The first dish (broccolini) came out and was lukewarm / room temperature - I couldn't tell if that's how it was supposed to be, or maybe it was supposed to be warm? Pretty good but nothing super special. The second course was steak which although flavorful and good (especially the bone in piece), was also barely lukewarm. It was served med rare to rare (yumm) so I wouldn't expect it piping, but even just "hot" would have been good. It was also a bit more grisly than I'd have expected. Maybe we got the last of the day cut that was kept under a warmer since we were a later table, but still a little let down. The cheese and pretzel course was amazing though mostly cause its just bread and cheese and that's always good. Dessert (ice cream sundae) was delicious but again, just not as special as I was expecting - if there was an interesting topping or something (beyond just pecans...), it would have been so much better.

Lastly, and this is my biggest pet peeve, I (female) was paying for my (male) date. When we were done, the server set the check down in front of my date which is not great but fine. I picked it up, put my credit card in it, and placed it back between us. When the server picked it up, he smiled at my date and thanked HIM. Okay fine, he might not have seen me put the card in. The server ran the card, and then set the check directly back in front of my date and thanked him again. Note that I have a very obviously feminine name on the card, my date has a beard, and I was not looked at or acknowledged during this entire interaction. If I'm spending hundreds of dollars at a very nice restaurant, I would expect the staff to recognize that or at the very least, not completely and rudely disregard it. A very unfortunate ending to an only slightly better than mediocre experience.

We definitely enjoyed our experience. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating to our children who have food allergies.

May have caught on a bad night w lemon pepper chicken as main course but we thought dinner was underwhelming especially in light of cost. $21 for a glass of pinot.

We had such high expectations for this place. The service was high average but the food was very disappointing. Examples: Oversauced potato salad. Chicken that we could not cut (undercooked), carrots that were few and swimming in cream. Neighbors at the table next to us sent food back twice for oversalting. We left without finishing our dinner, which the manager very kindly did not charge us for.

Possibly my favorite restaurant anywhere. The Sunday brunch is always good. Best fried chicken and waffles ever, the lobster omelette was exceptional. If there was anything that I thought could use help it was the gravy, roux and franks red hot is not exactly unprecedented.

Service is top notch as well

This was a fun and enjoyable experience. Our reservation was for 7:30 and even though they were very busy we were seated timely and the service was spectacular! Remember to go with an open mind, the menu is fixed with very little exchanges available. Some of the items were not what I would have chosen had I been given a choice, but I went with the flow and stuck to the fixed menu and I am glad I did! The food was amazing! Looking forward to going back!

Dining for one, the bar was a great choice. The bartenders were attentive and happy to make minor adjustments to the prix-fixe menu (citrus berry sorbet instead of the eggnog ice cream sandwich). The hook’s 5yr cheddar was available for their excellent Walnut Manhattan. Would happily take a larger group to enjoy the family style service.

The food was wonderful and our primary server was excellent. For 2, the portions are quite big. But, the range of the menu made us happy as it wasn't fare which felt contrived. Even with the portions, we had a hard time saying no to the add-on of the fried chicken. Well worth it. Wouldn't mind some funkier styled red BTG options, though.

We were were visiting SF and the wine region for just over a week and must have had about 20 meals in the area, Ad Hoc sadly was the most underwhelming of them all.

The soup was doused in cream, it was almost half cream, half squash...a sneaky way to make it taste rich.

The steak was good, but the sides were beyond mediocre. The roasted brussel sprouts were overdone and mush, no crunch or even any body. The mac and cheese was also doused in too much cheese and the macaroni was overdone and mushy.

The best course on the menu was the blue cheese and bread. And the egg nogg ice cream was decent.

Thought this would be a Thomas Keller level experience with more basic menu, instead it was just a bad bad meal. I regret ignoring the reviews we read from the christmas meal participants that warned against it.

We went over from sonoma to napa for it, and it left a mar on our entire trip, particularly because all the no-nonsense places were so great. We live in NYC and Per Se which we’ve been to and enjoyed a few years ago is off our list for future visits.

Their famous fried chicken was really good, but very heavy on the breading. And while there were two wings, there was only one small piece of white meat. Very disappointing. The arugula salad had pears, large radish slices, beets, and pecans. The blue cheese dressing was delicious.

Our first visit to Adhoc was freaking awesome! We had simple comfort food but it was freakishly delicious comfort food - and I mean every dish was amazing! Our gastronomical journey started with a fantastic salad served with a blue cheese dressing, then the main dish - super delicious fried chicken came along with equally super tasty side dishes (sautéed broccolini and mac and cheese). And with some divine guidance from a food god - I decided to add an order of their poached foie gras with black truffle - I'm glad I did because this dish was to die for!!! To finish on a high note, our chocolate pudding dessert came and we just delightfully devoured it!

I highly highly recommend adhoc. However please note that menu items mentioned above were (as I understand it) their New Year's Day special menu. Please check menu online before visiting adhoc.

My cousin and I enjoyed a fantastic New Year’s Eve dinner at Ad Hoc. The potato salad was unusual and delicious, the prime rib sumptuous with a hint of truffles, and the sides were rich and flavorful. Each course spurred on conversation concerning the combination of seasonings used. The chocolate dessert insured that we left full and happy! Thank you to all the Ad Hoc employees who made our evening special.

We loved the ambience and the family style concept at Ad Hoc. All of the waitstaff was knowledgeable and helpful, and the food was delicious! Our only nits were that the food was incredibly salty (which may be because we don't use that much salt at home and lost taste for it) and the portions for 2 were outrageous. We took half our meal home and the couple next to us did the same.

We want there on Christmas Eve. Menu featured 1) Wagyu beef tri-tip. It came looking nice and inviting but the beef was very chewy which is atypical of Wagyu. Beef being the main course, you can understand how disappointing we were. 2)Cheese course came with 2 small wedge of local brea type, it came with not much accompaniment: small pot of honey and 2 slices of toast. Dessert is a jazz up brownie from Bouchon which we visited the same morning which offered much more tastier treats.

Ad Hoc used to be awesome. Things have really slipped here, in particular the food and service. It's still a tourist destination, so I'm sure they will continue to do well with mediocre food. Too bad; food used to be some of the best in the valley. Christmas Eve dinner, quite frankly, sucked.
