Next to the last night of the restaurant closing. I rarely write negative reviews but need to get this one off my chest afters years of dining there. Appetizers came 40-minutes late, meals followed two-minutes after, the fish fry that reeked of burnt oil was near charred, trout overly done, bacon undercooked on one of the sandwiches... about the only thing the cooks got right was the grilled cheese. Tonight, one star for food; it really was that underwhelming. Did the head chef quit too? Disappointed that this is how the crew wanted to go out and remembered in Andersonville. Well, goodbye. We won't miss you that much. You got our money, yes, though don't make your exit without this poor review. Most importantly, we'll remember the next restaurant you try to open and how unprofessionally lackluster your team was in the end. You should have closed two weeks ago instead of fizzling out and taking your loyal customers down with you. We do wish our waiter good luck though! You deserve better!

Food was HORRIBLE. When we complained to the server he said the place was closing in a week. Save your money for somewhere else.

Not impressed. Service was sparse. Menu for brunch, not enticing. Kitchen over cooked 3 out of 4 meals. We won't be back.

My friend and I both ordered the Fish and Chips. The fish was cooked perfectly and was delicious! The French fries could have been much better; there was a variety of "doneness" to them which wasn't very appealing. Some were cooked well, but most of them were very overcooked. Also, the amount of fries that one receives is way too much; half of the portion served would have been plenty. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal and time at the restaurant.

Back when Tim was co-owner of Acre, we had many enjoyable meals there, with great food. This time, a number of dishes we'd had before seemed bland, atho we still liked the fried cheese curds. My mother (93 years old) enjoyed her salad, not her soup. My husband and I had porkburgers, which we used to love. This time, they seemed bland, even with all the additional items that were piled on. My 25 year old son didn't eat much of his sausage biscuit burger. Said the biscuit was really a roll, and the sausage nothing special. He did like the lobster bisque, which my mother found too salty. The mac and cheese small plate was a good size...but not much flavor. Needed stronger cheese or something!
The server must have noticed we hardly ate certain dishes, but didn't ask about them. Did refill our coffees frequently.

Was told it would take 30 minutes for oysters (app). Opted for soup & a salad for apps...they ended up taking 30 minutes to come out and was told the entrees would be at least 15 more minutes (at a minimum). Soup had a film on it from sitting under the heat lamp and was only warm. Salad came with cheese after repeatedly telling the waiter...no cheese. Didn't wait for the entrees. Walked out after speaking to the manager who offered no apology. Stay away from this place. Horrible experience.

I've been to Acre four times since moving to Chicago and I have been happy at every visit. The food is always really well prepared. Most of the menu items are fairly traditional, but prepared with a dash of creative that makes for a very fun dining experience. The staff is friendly and enthusiastic. If you are in Andersonville, I highly recommend Acre

For a Sunday evening, it was not crowded. Had a good glass of oyster-friendly wine (Albarino) along with one of each oyster offered, very good. Tried a different wine with the salmon appetizer (although the waiter mistakenly brought me the salmon dinner at first). Had to wait for the appie to be made, waiter comped me another glass of wine, the app was plenty to eat and very good. Hubby had the pork burger which was outstanding. We like Ombra (next door) as well.

I ate with a friend on Sunday evening and was disappointed both by the service (unenthusiastic), the ambience (or lack of it), and by the occasional excessive noise (sounded like hammering and drilling on a building site). The food and wine was fine, but the overall experience was not. I wouldn't rush back.

Took 15min for our server to our table. Finally took drink orders and came back without two drinks only to ask, "Did you two order anything?" He was completely stoned. Half of the entrees were cold and the vegetarian at the table received a wrong order. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Enjoyed a birthday dinner before a nearby show - my mom enjoyed her fish&chips - she couldn't finish the large portion. I had the crispy trout, prepared allergy friendly for me. The menu is unique and has lots of healthy choices. Everything was delicious, and the bill was fair. We sat at a table, but there was also tons of bar seating for anyone wanting to watch football.

There were 4 of us, and while all the food was fine, none of it was great. We had 3 entrees and 4 main dishes and not one of us would say - I would order this again. It wasn't bad, but it was all pretty bland.

Cheese curds had some cheese and some cauliflower- an unwelcome surprise. Buffalo cauliflower had super tangy sauce (ok, not bland - but not delicious), onion rings were best- but have had better many other places.

Crispy chicken, bland, flank steak chewy, fries with fish and chips cold, the last was a chicken sandwich that only half got eaten- think they were being gracious when they said they were full.

Even my apple cocktail had no flavor, tasted like water.
Beer selection was much appreciated.

Server was very friendly. And open windows in October was really nice.

But overall, Wouldn't go back.

Began my dinner with a superb Broker's martini and a dozen oysters on the half shell. Oysters were perhaps the best I have had in Chicago. My entrée was the pork chop with wild race and Cajun black-eye peas and fingerling potatoes in a bourbon glaze. All were highly flavorful. Chop was thick and delicious, although a bit chewy. I finished with flan which was also delicious. My wife started with a lovely salad and a salmon entrée, also very good. Excellent restaurant which I highly recommend. It was quiet, but we dined early. I have no doubt it may get nosier later in the evening.

Ate their for the first time due to the restaurant's participation in Dining Out for Life - they donated a portion of their profits that night to HIV/AIDS housing. My friend and I had a half dozen really fresh oysters, great entrees (the crispy chicken and a perfectly seasoned and done trout on a bed of vegetables; I usually don't touch the veggies but these were so good, I surprisingly ate them all!) and two generous cocktails. Came to about $40 each. We were seated on time, had a very friendly and attentive waiter. Also this is one of the blessed few restaurants that don't have TV blaring or playing in 22 locations all over their walls!
