If I could give ZERO stars I would. I called ahead of time to make sure my families dietary restrictions could be accommodated. They said no problem. Once I got there, (for my sisters birthday) I was told that was not true. We proceeded to try and order our way around the menu. I asked to remove apples and nuts from a salad (as I’m allergic to nuts) the waiter rolled his eyes. He proceeded to roll his eyes every time I asked for no cheese or tried to make sure there was no eggs. He yelled what are you even eating. And said he wanted to have a private talk with me about where I get these “ideas” from and basically why would I even come to this restaurant. Point is, I have never ever been so uncomfortable in my life. I felt like I was shamed for having dietary restrictions. I was trying to have a nice night out and it was completely ruined by the lack of professionalism in this restaurant. The food sucked. I would never come back and I would never treat anyone the way my family was treated.
The food and service at Acquolina was awesome! I went for dinner with my family and we all really enjoyed ourselves. It had great, authentic Italian ambiance and our server was great. Would highly recommend.
Excellent service and food. The pizza is amazing and the Shrimp and mushroom appetizer was delightful. We eil definitely return. We were treated like family.
First, they gave our table away to someone who claimed to be me (using our reservation), so we had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation to be seated. They didn't really even apologize. Then, they seated us outside, which was fine, but they neglected us the whole time we were there (no refills, no asking if we needed more bread, etc.). The cheese plate was okay, but overpriced for the cheese quality. Then it took like 30 minutes for our entrees to come out. My pizza was fine, but not great. My husband's pasta was fine - he rates it 7/10. Then the bill was super slow also. They were busy, but it was my birthday meal and it really wasn't great, all things considered.
Made a reservation for 8 people, got there and were ignored for 10 min granted they were busy. The proprietor at one point walked around us to greet another group that came in before recognizing our presents. Owner preceded to have drinks with the other group again not recognizing our existence. It seemed like he was irritated we showed up and could not give our table to them since they had people too.
Waiter was rude, we ordered a bottle of wine for the table (which came too cold) and he criticized the choice rather then making a suggestion.
Food was OK several of us ordered pizzas most were under cooked and 2 of 6 were not even cut! One pizza was cold and the wrong type I think it may have been a mistake from another tables order.
I don't send food back unless it's inedible, I just don't go back.
The location was nice and so was the atmosphere. Maybe if they had more staff or better training they could handle a full house without being rude and messing up orders/making bad food.
The hostess did a good job and was very polite.
The staff was very friendly and thoughtful. Thank you for a very nice Valentine’s Day dinner.
Place wasn't as nice looking as it seemed online. Completely open floor plan with cheap furniture. Wait staff was distracted and inattentive. Menu was very different than one posted online, they likely don't update it often. Wine list was very nice and reasonably priced. Porchetta was excellent.
The location is great! North Beach is my favorite part of San Francisco. We were a party of 6 ( 2 adults and 4 kids) and ordered pizza, eggplant parmigiana, spaghetti, the salmon special, and the pasta with wild boar ragu. Everything was hot and delicious when it arrived. Our server was kind and efficient. This is a way wonderful little neighborhood restaurant that is perfect for a casual family dinner. I would definitely recommend and/or go back.
We had a wonderfully authentic Italian meal. Our server Jacopo was excellent.
I would not go back to this restaurant as they ruined a cork in my wine bottle and then still charged me a corkage fee. My table was not set up before I was seated.
It was dinner and on the earlier side, front door left wide open so it was freezing almost the entire meal, only warming up much later as guests came in. We were sat and given some water glasses then left alone while five visible staff members walked around talking to each other. When service actually started it was fine, food was delivered on time and hot, however gaining the attention of a server was a struggle. Not a bad experience but with so many places to choose from nothing experienced here merits a speedy return visit.
Our family enjoyed every bite. We highly recommend to order extra food to take home for the next day. Delicious!!
Something about the place does not set the right mood for Italian dining. Must be the lighting and the table setting. It has more of a cafe feel. Food was just alright. The waiter tried so hard to be nice.
We were not surprised the place was empty.
Very very very authentic food and good wine list
In famous North Beach and nice small casual lace
Our waiter was very obviously interested in other parties
very authentic and delicious! service and prices could be improved.
We have been to Acquolina before and had a very good dining experience. This time, there were issues with the food. Our eggplant appetizer, Tuscan soup and the Special Christmas Cake were delicious. However, the lettuce in the salad was wilted and there was hardly any salad dressing on it - we had to ask for more. The ravioli was way undercooked and a bit crunchy. My daughters could not east it. We all like pasta al dente - but this was too tough and not cooked nearly enough. And the Lasagna special as not lasagna as we know it. It was a very small dish with a large noodle, bolognese sauce and a think layer of cheese melted on it. More like a small appetizer with no layers. The quantity of cheese made it hard to eat.
The service was excellent.
Oh my goodness the pizza's were incredible. Thin crust, good crunch, fresh arugula and prosciutto, and delicious. We decided to go for Thanksgiving, because this mama is not cooking nor cleaning. So glad we decided to go. The ambiance was lovely with all of the twinkling lights and the view of Washington Square Park. It almost felt like one of those darling cafe's in Paris. I would absolutely go back.
we we're going to a show and we're having difficulty finding a reservation. We stumbled upon Acquolina and were so glad that we did. Fantastic salad and delicious pizza. The crust is to die for. The staff was friendly and very conscientious. I'm so glad we stopped. We enjoyed the whole dining experience.
Bad food, nothing Italian there
Had meatball and antipasto apps which were really good. Most of us had pizza while the wife had the lamb special. Pizzas were ideal for 2 people and excellent. The lamb chops were perfectly prepared. Staff were friendly even though we were the last table to leave.
Thanks for great food and service!
Less than good food. Of all the amazing places we could've gone to North Beach we definitely did not choose well. Bland food and mediocre service. This is not a place I would ever go back to.
Good food, poor service
Review of a busy Sunday night table for 5. Below average food - "cheesy saffron" ravioli sauce looked and tasted like Kraft Mac and Cheese sauce and Cannelloni cream was way too floury. All dishes bland. Pizzas were fine. Service slow and grumpy - had to keep reminding about missing drinks, missing food, etc right until the point of needing a tip. The location brings in many tourists, but we felt exploited for the price.
This has become a must dine location whenever we are in town. Service is always beyond friendly and helpful making you feel so welcome, food is always delicious, great wine menu!
I have lived in sf for 20 years, and always want to support the smaller restaurants. I went to this restaurant because I had a good experience months ago with a friend. This time, unfortunately, the waiter could not have been ruder. We sat at the high table. We ordered our food and had to ask repeatedly for water, Parmesan, plates, etc. When the food came, he practically threw the plates down. When asked if they had vodka, because we didn't quite like the drink we ordered and wanted to order something different, he answered 'no' and walked away. No other suggestions. I brought my out of town guests in to experience a not so touristy restaurant and I was just extremely disappointed- and offended by the way they treated my guests. When I called back and was directed to management by the other waiter staff that wanted me to give the feedback, the 'management' said they were really busy and would handle a reservation but I would need to call back another time for feedback. I wanted to support a place that's usually not so busy, but now I know why they aren't so busy.
A fun place for authentic Italian. Both the food and service were very good.
Very touristy. Painfully average food.
Service was excellant. Food was also.
Very casual. Music was not appropiate for the a restaurant that also calls itself a wine bar.
Ditch the TVs.
This is a tourist trap. Great location with nice natural light. Too loud. Not for children or locals
Good traditional Italian with a causal ambiance. Great place for dates, families and friends. Will go back and try the pizza next time, it looked realy good.
Just okay. We had wished we had gone to any of the other nearby Italian restaurants.
Location was great, right in Washington Square Park. Food was ok. Pasta was a little bland and pizza was just so so.
I was very authentic Italian . You felt like your were in a small bistro in an Italian town. Great service. great appetizer's. Definitely recommend it.
Awful. We couldn't get drinks for 20 minutes, then our waiter forgot 3 of our 4 food orders and wasn't even apologetic. The food was crap. Unless you are a tourist that doesn't know what Italian food should taste like, you will loathe this place.
Nice place close to a lot of the hotspots in Little Italy. The food was good and the service was really nice.
We were a large group for dinner and they were the only spot in North Beach that had a spot open for a group of 8 at 8PM on a Friday night, last minute reservation. Great location and open space, it is casual and easy, stick to the pizza and simpler dishes and you'll be good.
