Italian
Acquolina owner Dario Nicotra hails from Livorno, a city on Tuscany's western coast and serves the food of his native Florentine region. Acquolina, which means "mouthwatering" in Italian, is reminiscent of his old days of hanging out at the beach in Tuscany and frequenting a local family restaurant. Acquolina offers casual brunch and lunch options, with omelets, breakfast pizza, pastries, and espresso in the morning and pasta, focaccia, and pizza made in an imported, stone oven in the afternoon. Dinner is more sophisticated, with meats and seafood plus pizza and pasta. Chef Meri Serpillo prepares all of the pasta daily and freshly for each dish. A selection of wines and beers from Italy (and California) complement all the dishes and the fresh fruit cocktails are the perfect aperitif before your meal. Acquolina offers outdoor seating directly in front of Washington Square Park for a classic San Francisco outdoor dining experience and some of the best people-watching in the city.

When we arrived they said that they didn’t have my reservation which I clearly showed them on my email. Nonetheless the host was very accommodating and friendly. Our waitress was not hospitable and a bit rude. Food was mediocre. Way too loud inside.

This place is very noisy and the tables are small. The service was very slow and inattentive to the point that they took the wine off of our bill when we commented to the waiter about the service. They did not have enough servers. The food was great though. Excellent burrata salad and pizzas.

Dined here with a group of 8 after doing an escape room in SF for my teen's birthday. Perfect location, decor, layed back atmosphere, but the clincher was the great service. Waiter was very personable and attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant dinner. He helped make food recommendations without trying to oversell anything and brought out a special birthday treat. We had bruchetta, panini, margarita pizzas, and a caprese salad--all delicious and authentic. Will be back for sure!

The atmosphere and the service was great. I must say, we were very disappointed in the food. Very bland. We ordered the caprese salad as it was high tomato season, and they had no flavor at all. Everything required more salt and pepper and lots of olive oil. Sad my little Italy dinner in SF was not delicious :(

This is the second time I go to Acquolina the food is very good, the pizza is excellent. One has to make reservations as they are always full. It is a bit noisy but bearable.

Excellent dining experience. The Parmesian showcase is fun to watch and the end result is very cheesy. A friendly family restaurant, something one would expect in North Beach district.

It was a great evening. My book club and I had an enjoyable time sipping wine and fun cocktails while chatting about our book and catching up on our very busy lives. Servers were super friendly, the food was delicious and the ambiance was superb.

The food, is absolutely wonderful- like some of the best I've had in the area and that's saying a lot!
Unfortunately the service is terrible, long wait for a waiter. Waiter changed 3 times during the meal. At one point he brought a desert menu after the appetizer, before the entree that we had already ordered had come. Real bad.

They had high energy 80's music blasting which was a fun change. Overall it's nice, but they have to get the service together in a big way or people wont come back.

Italian restaurant with Latin influences. The signature dish (pasta prepared in parmezan) was disappointing. We have had this much better prepared. Staff is friendly but sometimes challenging to communicate. Main course was prepared right after the appetizers came to the table. We had asked for a small delay between the courses that did not come Through. Soda explicitly asked without ice came with ice; they fixed it immediately but this should not happen multiple times
Housewine is ok.

Great service and they were patient for my friend who could not decide what she wanted to order.
I always enjoy eating here. Fennel and orange salad has been my favorite.

One thing I was not comfortable was when we gave two credit cards. Mine was charged correctly half of the total amount, but hers were charged full amount.

If I did not notice the difference, she would have not noticed. They corrected when I mentioned.

Nice place to go to in North Beach, but they need more waiters/waitresses there. Very good Italian food. Nice service, but there waiters/waitresses are too busy. Red wine outside of one from Sicilia was disappointing. Good sparkling wine.

Fantastic food and fantastic service! Portions were generous, service prompt and selections were perfect. Having traveled extensively through Italy we can say with authority that the food was very authentic. A must visit on our list everytime we return to San Francisco.

We were visiting San Francisco and heard this was a place we MUST eat dinner at and we were so happy that we did! We were greeted at the door by the friendly staff and from the time we entered the restaurant, to the time we left, we felt like family. The food was amazing and the pasta was so fresh. We ordered the apple salad, pesto pasta plate, manicotti-type dish and a pasta from the big cheese wheel menu. The salad was very fresh and flavorful. The pasta from the cheese wheel menu was the hit of the night. It was so awesome to watch this process and I highly recommend it...kids will love watching this too! We had the tiramisu and it was the best we had ever had (a member of our family doesn't even like tiramisu and couldn't stop eating it). The server Lazar and the chef Donato (I believe his name is) were our favorite part of our visit. They were so personable with each member of our family and made the experience so much fun. Make sure you stop by and grab a bite to eat...you won't be disappointed!

Always enjoyable to be there .
Octopus salad is really good ( but please never use mashed potatoes in it . It is much better with chopped potatoes ) .
Helpful and super friendly service people !
The lock on the bathroom door gotta be fixed ( it has been broken for a few month ).
Noise level of the music is often too high and the choice of music is not great . We do not want to listen to Frank Sinatra over and over again . What’s wrong with Italian music ? We’d prefer Italian music there . Grazie !

Last minute dinner choice in North Beach put us in the sidewalk seating area of Acquolina, across from the park which is under construction. Lots of crazy traffic and people on a Saturday night. Enjoyed hearing the church bells! Pasta entrees (one with boar ragu, the other with fish) were good: very simple but a little bland.

Went for a quick bite and cocktail before heading to the comedy club and were pleasantly surprised. Service was fast and friendly with great recommendations and our pizza was tasty. We went with the red sauce and speck option and the crust was on par. Looking forward to our next visit where we’ll be sure to go with a larger appetite as they offer pasta made in a large cheese wheel, yum. It was being prepared table side near us and it looked amazing!

Had to wait 20 min for a table despite having a reservation. After sitting down for a few minutes we were asked to move to another table. Then, waiter could not remember our order. Also had to ask multiple times for drinks that we requested.

Awesome restaurant facing the park. Service is warm, friendly, and fast; wine pours are generous. Outdoor seating provides perfect place for people watching in North Beach. Our table loved the flatbread and squid ink pasta. And the servers brought out a nice big water bowl for our pup, which caused several other pups walking by to stop for a drink and say hi. Adding to my list of fun group restaurants!
