Acquerello Ratings and Reviews
We had an amazing dinner experience. I have a food allergy and they were unbelievably accommodating. Everything we ate was not only fabulous, but presentation was beautiful. We definitely recommend for a date night or special occasion. We will be back when we visit the area again.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is just top shelf, an adventure really. Not just food you're getting, but an amazing experience. We had the pleasure of having Chef Suzette come to our table and praise her for her exquisite staff and food. Absolutely fantastic restaurant.
Wowwww what a meal. One for the books. Everything from the courteous service to the food was impeccable. But what really put the cherry on top was the amazing sommelier Rafael santos that paired each meal with the perfect wine. He was so informative yet not aggressive. He selected wines from all different price ranges. I will never forget this meal. Thank you everyone at acquarello.
This is the third time we've been here. It's very expensive but you are paying for a unique, quiet, romantic dining experience with the best service ever! You should be adventurous and willing to try new foods. I think that it is one of the top restaurants in San Francisco. It helps that there is a parking garage right across the street too. Dress up and go for a special occasion!
Everything was excellent until they were unable to accept my OpenTable gift card even though I had activated it when I made the reservation. The email I received from OpenTable upon activation said to simply show the card to the waiter. I did and he said he'd never seen one and his colleagues hadn't either.
The restaurant is cute and cozy and properly spaced; you can definitely feel the old-school vibe from the decor. The service was amazing and all the servers were very kind, jovial, and genial. Plates were taken promptly after finishing, and our water was never empty. Our main server took great time to slowly and properly explain each dish as they were served to us. One of their somms also helped us choose a fantastic bottle of red wine from their expansive and daunting Italian-focused wine list. I will definitely come back for this wine list alone!
As for the food, you're given 3 incredibly delicious amuse bouches that may change with the seasons, but our favorite was a mini corn souffle with pistachio sauce. As for the main dishes, although they were perfectly executed some were unbalanced in flavor.
-The dungeness crab stuffed inside a zucchini roll was overwhelmed by the creamy and slightly salty flavor of the squash gezpacho, losing the sweet crab flavor. Although texturally the dish had nice contrast.
-The venison was PERFECTLY cooked and not as gamey as I expected, would return for this again! But the prune sauce was slightly too sweet and almost cloying, although it is a necessary choice to compliment the venison.
-My friend's dishes (veal tartar, squid ink risotto) were well executed with no complaints, although the Maine lobster with a bisque was an interesting combination.
The pastas here were incredible though and must be eaten firsthand to experience their depth of flavor and richness.
The desserts were also great, especially the bourbon semifreddo.
My only slight gripe would be that we were celebrating a graduation, but nothing special was done! I'll still come back though.
This Michelin 2-star has food and service equal to a 3-star, but priced like a 2, ie it is outstanding. By way of example, the corkage fee is $75, or $37.50 for 375ml - they go to the trouble of pricing the half bottle! And, parking across the street is half the price of most valets in the City.
Service? Impeccable. The 2 of us watched as they served a table of 5 with simultaneous plates for each client for each course. Class!
Food? Portions were almost perfect, and the plating works-of-art.
We had been here before a few times, but long ago. It was very good then, but has gotten even better, to be classed as a great establishment.
Run, don't walk, to this superb restaurant.
PS: we considered 'Saison' for this anniversary dinner, but reconsidered after reading their severe, and unacceptable, cancellation policy. Acquerello's is much more forgiving, and they apologize for it!
We were celebrating our anniversary. Besides a note to wish us happy anniversary, the restaurant also made an effort to create a special dessert for us besides the dessert we have ordered. Food was great except the sauce of my husband's duck dish was a bit too overpower he could not smell or taste the earl grey.
One thing the server or the kitchen missed is I have already mentioned to the head waiter that I cannot eat strawberry before the meal and during reservations. The kitchen still served us strawberry as a surprise dessert.
Other than the one miss, the overall experience was great! Would definitely recommend the restaurant to our friends.
Our evening at Acquarello was perfect. We will definitely return. The menu had great variety and our meal included many lovely surprises from the chef. The service was impeccable and everyone was remarkably kind to us. The food and wine were outstanding and the ambience was upscale but very comfortable.
Second time to Acquerello and again it did not disappoint. The food was outstanding, service impeccable and ambiance was amazing. The biggest standout this time around however was the wine pairing and the sommelier, Raphael, he was wonderful to talk with and his pairings were absolutely perfect. Not to mention he noticed that it had been 5 years to the day since our last visit and deducted it was our anniversary (We always try a very fancy dinner each year for our celebration, Acquerello is our first repeat endeavor). Neither my wife or myself have ever such a good pairing as we did last week with Raphael. He is truly and asset to the restaurant. It might be and expensive night out, but this place is tops in the City! If you havent been, run dont walk!
That was an amazing experience, very posh. They even offered two colors of napkins depending on what the patron wears, and my purse got a separate seat at the table! It looked like a poof for a lap dog, my purse was very honored :D
Food and service were also amazing :)
Amazing, memorable dinner for hubby's birthday. Service and food were outstanding. We had ordered the five course prix fixe, and the chef sent out a few compliementary courses prior to the start. Especially memorable were the smoked trout appetizer, the lobster main course, and the cheese course where I selected a cheese called "Cassie" that may have been the best I've ever had. They had no problem dealing with my gluten allergy, and had excellent substations ready.
The server and sommelier were terrific. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional without a hint of overbearing and stuffy.
Considering the extraordinary results it felt like a good value and worth every penny.
