Acqua - Upper West Side Ratings and Reviews
We always love dining at Acqua. Looks like they may have changed hands or hired a new chef, but everything was still very high quality -- our friends at Paleo-friendly, my husband had calamari and orechiette with broccoli rabe and sausage and I had my usual fried artichokes and quattro stagione pizza. Yum!
We are not often in this neighborhood. But we had tickets to Symphony Space. This restaurant was excellent for pre-show dinner. The food is fresh; there is a wide selection; decent wines and wood-burning oven pizza. Prices were good. I would go again when I am in the area.
We ate at Acqua before a performance at Symphony Space and it was perfect for that. The food is good and a nice selection of wines. Service was a little spotty...it looked like the waiter was very overworked and he did a good job whenever we were able to get his attention. It was also very noisy with bad acoustics so difficult to hear what others in our party were saying. It's not a restaurant I would go out of my way for but it's a very nice neighborhood place and perfect for a good meal before a performance at Symphony Space.
Delicious authentic Italian food and friendly attentive service. I had the amazing lasagna - it was to die for! My friend had linguine with clams which she said was very good. Fresh bread and tasty olive oil. We each had a glass of wine. Finished the meal off with the tiramisu - super light and fresh! If you are on the upper west side, you have to eat here. Will be back very soon!
Acqua was the perfect place for a leisurely lunch with a friend. We were able to have a long conversation without having to raise our voices and without feeling rushed. The service was outstanding: knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The menu offers a nice variety of dishes. The food was very good. Overall a very positive experience. I'll be coming back.
When Acqua first opened, I was a neighborhood regular--that is, until the quality of the food took a downward turn. Had not been for quite a few years, but my dining companions chose the restaurant...alas, it was worse than I remembered. The staff was welcoming & attentive; too bad they didn't have better cuisine to set before us. My friends seemed content with their salad and pizza (looked "standard issue" to me); my salmon was impossibly fishy and fatty, served with a few soggy pieces of zucchini and four chunks of tired, pasty roasted potatoes. I took a few bites of the salmon and, not wanting to embarrass my friends, I had the rest "to go." On my way home, I dropped the whole thing in the garbage around the corner. Never more, never more.
Disappointing place to eat before the show. Service was spotty, started OK but fell off as the restaurant got busier. The food came out cold and in three stages. It was at least 10 minutes from the time the first dish was served until the the last one was on the table. The pizza was good, sorry to say it is the only item I can recommend.
This was the perfect place for a group of friends getting together for dinner on a weeknight. We ordered 6 appetizers to share and all were excellent! Artichokes melted in my mouth, caprese salad made with super fresh bufala mozzarella, flavorful tomatoes and aromatic basil, perfectly cooked fried calamari, fried mozzarella that reminded me of childhood, the arugula fennel salad with lemon olive oil dressing and my favorite, the meatballs - to die for. Very nice selection of wines and the bartender makes an excellent vodka martini. Next, we ordered a couple of wood fired pizzas - super thin crust - just delicious! Also highly recommend the lasagna. We finished the night off with strong espresso, creamy and light tiramisu and limoncello. Excellent, attentive service. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Acqua did not disappoint. Will be back again very very soon.
Acqua is a great neighborhood gem and one of my daughter's favorite spots. Simple, yet comfortable décor, with a nice menu that caters to pasta lovers, but has good meat and fish alternatives. Pizza is excellent. Their lasagna is delicious and recently I enjoyed a seafood pasta that was among the best I have had at higher end restaurants. If you want a relaxing Italian meal with great service, this is a place to consider.
Acqua is a good Italian restaurant. Unfortunately NYC is home to many great Italian restaurants. We found the service to be great but unfortunately the food didn't grab us. I would recommend Acqua if you are in the neighborhood but not for a special destination.
Excellent Italian food... cooked by a real Italian chef... pasta was superb and is home made. Very impressed by the service and the food... really first rate. The manager/owner came by to check if we were happy... and our friend who lived in Italy at one time, raved about the food. Then we learned the chef was from Italy as well.
We always dine at Acqua prior to a performance at Symphony Space - short one-block walk. We are from the Village but prefer to dine near the performance venue. The service is great - very attentive staff. The food is basic Italian, prepared and presented nicely and a vegetable substitution for my pasta was allowed. Pizzas are a great to curb one's appetite while enjoying a glass of wine - the wait staff gave us a perfectly-timed break before the entree arrived. The atmosphere is inviting and neighborhood regulars are evident. We will return again for sure.
