Acitron Cocina Mexicana Ratings and Reviews
Two friends and I had what can charitably be described as a baffling meal. We went for a birthday brunch on Super Bowl Sunday -- not dinner, during game time, but brunch. There were only two other tables with customers, so we expected great service, but the opposite was true.
It looked like there were 3 employees on duty: our very sweet server, a woman who may or may not have been the bartender (sometimes she was behind the bar; sometimes she was at the bar, on her phone) and a man in the kitchen.
We thought it was taking a surprisingly long time for our drinks to come, but they did. We thought our guacamole order had been forgotten, but then it showed up -- and was really good. We half-joked that the pre-game show must be pretty good, b/c what else would explain the delays?
Two of us ordered eggs benedict. Our potatoes were cold while our poached eggs were overcooked, more like hard-boiled eggs without the shells. The dish was quite good, but c'mon -- eggs benedict means runny egg yolk for more flavor.
The third person was served a dish other than what she ordered, but she kept it b/c she really liked it. By now we wondered what the heck was (or was not) going on in the kitchen.
After waiting around some more (with no other customers in the restaurant by now), our server finally re-appeared with a small scoop of ice cream with whipped cream out of a can (OK, it was free ) + the bartender with a big sombrero for the birthday girl. They sang "happy birthday" while our friend smiled gamely (OK, nice gesture). But it was awkward as they left b/c the bartender was laughing hysterically. The birthday girl couldn't help but wonder if she was being laughed at.
All in all, good food that should have been even better, with inexplicably bad service.
I always enjoy eating here. The food is consistently good... Mexican with a bit of an upscale twist. Their margaritas are fantastic and the service is always excellent with friendly, attentive wait staff. My date and I sat around talking until just before closing, well after the check was paid and everyone left. They didn't bother us at all, which we appreciated.
HOLY MOLEY What a Mole'
Acitron is a great local gem that provides innovative Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price with attentive, friendly staff, and a nice cozy vibe. We were there for my son's 8th birthday prior to a Regent Theater show on a Friday night. Although they don't have a "kids menu", they were very accomodating in finding something that worked for our son....The Guacamole was delicious and fresh, and I'm a Mole' freak and they make a great Mole'. My ex wife's Poblano Chile Rellenos were delicious for her. The drinks were reasonable....and the flan was a favorite of our son.
Mexican food at a whole new level. . . There is guacamole and fajitas for those who must have them, but venture beyond these staples to some of the chef's authentic creations like moles, Chile's rellenos, and lots more. . . Adventurous taste buds will be well rewarded!
We visited this warm, colorful place on a bitterly cold December night after seeing a movie at the Capitol Theater a mile down the road. I loved my CAMARONES CON SALSA CILANTRO: succulent, flavorful shrimp on a bed of spinach with a salsa on top prepared from roasted tomatillo, cilantro, jalapeño, onion and garlic. The beans and rice on the side were just fine, with the pinto beans neatly confined inside a small, boat-shaped serving dish. My husband enjoyed the CHILES EN NOGADA: poblano pepper stuffed with savory ground beef and topped with a delicious and unusual sauce of cream cheese with nuts. Drinks were fresh and tart. We'll be back. Next time I want to try the shrimp a la diabla.
Always a great experience. Terrific food, excellent value, fantastic service. Get the corn (elote) as one of your sides! Also as a gluten free diner I can eat most of the menu--and everything is clearly labeled. Vegetarians will find lots here as well. Delicious margaritas too. Come on Thursday when they're all $7!
This was my second visit. The food is very good and has lots of options - it's upscale Mexican but not too expensive. There is a good buzz of noise without it drowning the conversation. The decor is nice and the parking was not too bad. Quite a gem, I'll be back.
Had a delicious dinner with another couple. Staff was wonderful. I had 2 pomegranate margaritas that were excellent. Not sure how the noise level part of the rating system works, but despite being full, the restaurant never felt loud. Have been recommending to all my friends.
We always like Acitron, returning with friends. My friends liked everything they ordered - chili rellenos, chicken mole, etc. I opted for the salmon, that should have been a no-brainer. Alas, it was probably previously frozen and way over-cooked; too dry to eat. A disappointment.
One of my favorite places to bring an out-of-town visitor. The menu is just the right size, having enough options yet not overwhelming.
The service is wonderful. Attentive but not overwhelming. Always happy to explain and advise, and they were very gracious in correcting a misunderstanding in a prior visit.
PS- if you're unsure about sides, get the corn (elote). So good.
Delicious and very obliging. The quesadillas surtidas were outstanding; the carne adobado melt-in-your-mouth. Schedule limitations meant we were going to have to arrive not much before closing, but I was assured on the phone it would be fine, and it was. Great service, pleasant atmosphere. This is one of our new go-to places.
Have enjoyed Acitron for several years, but was disappointed this time. The margaritas were not as good and the food not as high quality as in the past. We had to send the margaritas back to be remade, but they still were not good. The enchiladas were cold and the first basket of chips we got were stale. The service was very good; we had an excellent waiter. Atmosphere still lively! Hope things change as we really have loved this place!
