Ácenar’ offers 4 private dining areas, which can be combined for large events. Our patio overlooking the San Antonio Riverwalk being the highlight of the restaurant, while the Arriba and Abajo Rooms offer a more intimate setting. The Mezzanine converts to dining and lounge style cocktail parties.
View Private Dining DetailsAnother great meal. The patio over the river is perfect for springtime weather. Food is always good and the salsa is perfect.
Great location, good service and tasty food. Lots of groups celebrating special occasions.
Festive and fun!
My wife and I went here through a recommendation from a colleague for my wife’s birthday. My first impression was that of a cafeteria. Square beat up tables with plastic old chairs. The ambiance was extremely loud. I could barely talk to my wife without raising my voice. The food was ok but the drinks were terrible. My wife ordered a house special margarita and I a mojito. The margarita tasted like sour mixer and bad tequila and the mojito was more a salad with lime juice than a nice refreshIng mojito. I would not recommend this place for a date night with your loved one nor would I recommend it for a place to stop for drinks. Maybe a quick bite if your in a hurry and there’s no place else to go.
I had reservations at Acenar for my prom night. It was a table of 4 . Service was good, the meal was good the only problem was my drink/smoothie had a piece of glass that I bit down on while drinking my smoothie .. I did advise management about it and got my drink free , but considering this was a 4 Star reastaurant I would have thought we would have been comped a meal or dessert .. I do feel since we were a table of “ kids” we were blown off with our concern and it was deemed to not be a big deal. My father & mother were sitting a few tables from us to chaperone and did offer to approach management , but I didn’t want to make a scene due to being a special occasion for my date and I. Overall it’s a good place .. the ability to valet park was an awesome amenity especially downtown . Atmosphere was good.. my only complaint was my smoothie and the fact that I felt not enough was done to fix the situation or to make me want to go back .
Best salsa ever! The ambiance was off the charts by the River Walk.
Of all the places we ate this was the only one that was disappointing. I really don’t have anything good to say about it. Place was packed so seemed the staff was having a hard time keeping up. The craft cocktails were anything but, doubt that the person making them knew what they were doing. The food, well, high point was they served you a lot, low point was it was just not good. I’m sure others have had the opposite experience there but we will not be going there again.
Met friends from San Antonio, service was a bit
Slow, food and drinks terrific
Food was excellent
Food was great. Salsa is wonderful. The outside deck just above the river is the best.
We made a reservation 6 weeks out, which we called to confirm and request outdoor seating day of the dinner. Acenar staff advised that outdoor seating was first come/first served. When we arrived, we advised of our reservation and requested to change to outdoor seating. We were told we had a 45-50 minute wait, to which we agreed. After waiting 80-90 minutes, all the while, 3 tables outside that were set up with reserved signs. This was certainly off-putting and the staff could not give us a clear explanation of that situation. When finally seated (outside) the wait staff was very attentive, but food was mediocre. Margarita was fair, flavorful but little to no tequila in it. We ordered 2 table side guacamoles which were fresh, but very small for the $15 price for each. The “taste of everything” plate was a variety of poor quality beef, sausage, chicken and shrimp, lacking flavor. The proteins seemed old, as if cooked much earlier in the dY and warmed up for service. While the venue and staff are good, I’d recommend finding another place on the river walk for good food
Good but would have been much better sitting outside
I am surprised that this restaurant came up as one of the top ten restaurants in San Antonio. Our meal was ok, nothing to write home about.
We dined with an out of town friend. We wanted to take him to a restaurant that offered great tasting food and was next to the river. We all left impressed.
It’s was awesome! The only thing missing was some music....
Well, we had high hopes. Food arrived and it looked and smelled awesome. Only problem—we had no utensils with which to eat it! The young man who brought the food promised to bring us utensils and even told us tortillas were on the way, but we never saw him again. Couldn’t fine our waiter either. Finally got service from a different waiter but by that time my husband had lost his appetite and his food was cold so he never touched his. I ate mine at the food quality was awesome! I mean really good. Ordered another glass of wine when food was delivered. It arrived after I had finished my meal. Too bad— the potential was there but the service crew needs improvement
Tried to eat on deck but told long wait despite reservations
Inside was annoyingly loud throughout meal even after loud large party left
Food was well done particularly mole sauce
Guacamole was made tableside but lacked flavor and special chips arrived very late after mostly eaten
Would have been different experience if outside on riverfront patio but not worth the trip otherwise unless a large party
Bit loud outside because there was a large conference group. Great service and food. Beautiful setting on corner of Riverwalk. Unique food and drinks
Good food. Great service. Too loud for my liking
We pre booked this 3 weeks in advance for our final night celebration and were told it would be a 50 min wait for an outside table - we reluctantly agreed and were placed away from the rest of the tables near where some brooms and other cleaning products were stored- we complained twice but no one seemed to care - food was ok and then they slapped on a 20% service charge which being English I paid.I can’t see the point in booking if they treat you like a walk up for any acceptable tables - a thoroughly poor and disappointing experience - I would avoid at all costs
Acinar is one of the best Latin restaurants I have experienced. The food was incredibly delicious and the drinks were also carefully crafted. It was apparent that much care was taken to present a meal which was to be savored and remembered. The service was also excellent; the waitress could not have been more kind and pleasant. Great experience!
Enjoyed our meal very much. Had the opportunity to dine outside, which coming from Indiana to San Antonio was a great thing to do! Also enjoyed our margarita! Very friendly staff and our meal was served to us in a very timely manner. Kudos to all!
We were in from out of town and got a reservation the day before but ended up
Inside rather than outside on the river walk. The server was very good but the food was lack luster. My husband got skirt steak which he said was good. I had the crab tacos and they didn’t have much flavor.
Food was good; service was slower than desired on our particular visit (it was a Friday night).
We loved the food. The Alambres a la Mexicana was delicious and enough for the two of us to share, especially after some chips and salsa. We also had the Tres Leches Cake, but it was a bit disappointing. Not very authentic. The cocktails / wine were good also, though a bit pricey for the size.
There was seating inside and also outside overlooking the river. Due to lightning, and a sudden downpour of rain, we chose inside.
The waiter/waitresses ignored us until the manager came by and asked if we had been helped. After that the service was ok. Food was cooked fast and tasted real good.
Service was terrible. Food was just ok. Nothing special. Patio is first come first service so even if you make a reservation, you won’t get a patio table unless there is one open. Overall the worst place we ate all weekend.
We specifically chose Acenar to have their guacamole, which is prepared at table side and is one of the things they are known for. They had run out of avocados though! Enough said...
OK experience. Food was good, but not exceptional. Service was above par. For the money, a decent value.
The food was spectacular ! The mole chicken and the table made guacamole were some of the best I have had. Each region of Mexico has a signature mole- this mole had a back bite of peanut- subtle but flavorful
We made a 10:15 am reservation and were rudely turned away, saying they weren’t open and we will have to come back later. Then, Open Table sends an email admonishing us for not showing up.
Have no idea about the food, but we’ll never be back.
Great Tex Mex Food! And it is on the RIVER WALK. Great location. Great service.
We were stuck in an upstair private area away from ALL of the people in the restaurant.
Super service, great TEX MEX food, though.
Final Four
Food is excellent. A little on the loud side but only if you want a quiet time. Overall a great place
The cocktails were disappointing. Their version of the old fashioned was not enjoyable. The service was poor. It took a long time for the server to come around. We had to ask for spoons when we got coffee. The server didn't come around to see how we were doing. So we had to get the server's attention each time. It was busy but we've been to busier restaurants that are better managed. We ended up getting an extra drink because of a mix up.
It has a nice ambiance but the experience did not live up to expectations.
We arrived at our reserved time and were seated right away. The service was prompt and attentive without being overbearing. The food was fresh and attractive and arrived in a reasonable time. I would highly recommend this restaurant for date night or family dining.
Not mexican food, just american food a la mexicana
Not fresh food. Mediocre restaurant.
Great experience and place
Great food and nice casual atmosphere. Waitress went missing a few times but was nice when we got her attention.
We were seated up against dirty walls outside w/a plastic tablecloth that was literally hanging on by threads, a huge rip running right through the middle. It was a real disappointment considering the location. After that, the waiter sensed we weren’t going to stay long as we only ordered appetizers because we couldn’t sit in that dirty corner through a whole meal but felt obligated to stay for a little bit since chips & salsa were already brought out, he barely came around. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a decent place to dine.
A bit basic first impression; looks almost like a cafeteria or diner. But the dishes we had were all good. Nothing memorable, but good. Service was good as was the table made guacamole. I would probably go again but there are several Tex Mex places along the Riverwalk and this one doesn’t really stand out from the crowd.
