Went here for a business dinner. It has a very hip vibe and seems to be very popular. There is an outdoor area which overlooks the riverwalk and the indoor section. We sat indoors and it seemed a little bit loud but we could still hear each other if we talked a bit louder. I had the Alambres a la Mexicana which were three skewers (1 beef, 1 shrimp, 1 chicken) with meat and veggies over roasted corn rice. It was out of this world. All of the meats were perfectly done and very tender and not dry. The rice was soo good too! It was not the typical rice that you get in a mexican dish. This was more on the white side with some roasted corn and it and it had a very rich, almost buttery flavor. It was so good! Then we had the Tres Leches Cake with caramel sauce and melon pico. It was also really heavenly too. If I ever come back to San Antonio again I am bringing my family here to eat.
Wonderful atmosphere and food, and the location provides a nice comfortable dining experience right on the river walk. The Duck Chalupa's were SO GOOD!
It’s ok. Solid food and service but feels only a step above fast food place in terms of atmosphere
Good food and good service. Tables are a little close together. Chile Rellenos were excellent! We’re coming back!
Average is you are sitting outside on the river, because of the great setting. Below average inside.
We enjoyed eating here before the Majestic show. The food was delicious. It was very noisy, however, and hard to visit.
Service is absolutely horrible. Took forever after we were seated for our waiter to come over. He did visit someone who had been seated way after us first which really bothered me. Things were wrong all night. Good food, incompetent service. Never again
Visiting from Canada
Came with family and ate outside. Really enjoyed the food and Mariachi music made it relaxing and enjoyable.
Wonderful place with very creative as well as traditional tex-mex offerings. The tortilla soup was outstanding to begin our meal, as were the empanadas. We then each enjoyed very flavorful and yet not heavy flavors for our entrees. Highly recommend.
This restaurant was a last minute find, as the previous restaurant I had made reservations at declined them suddenly when they realized it was spring break. I was able to make last minute reservations at Ácinar, and I am so glad I did! I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a simple cheese enchilada so much. The food was delicious, and the restaurant was a quick walk from our hotel. In addition, I have never had such an excellent piña colada. I will go back for that alone. Our waiter did a wonderful job, which was no small feat with three children in our group. He was kind and patient with them throughout, and insisted I not clean up the floor under the baby. He got a great tip for that. I look forward to eating here again the next time I am in San Antonio!
The food was awesome, good service, reasonable prices, and a good view of Riverwalk. We ate there 2 times.
Food below average. Cleanliness of tables, chairs below average and slow service.
We were looking for some delicious and authentic Mexican food on a quick visit to San Antonio, Texas. We sure found it here! Wonderful Margaritas and great table side guacamole! Our server was very nice and attentive to our table of 6. All of us enjoyed the food very much. Highly recommended!
It was our first time at Acenar. two couples meeting in 15 years : we from Houston and the other couple from New Jersey! We all enjoyed the Margaritas, appetizers, and our entrees were very good. Our waiter was especially helpful and did not rush us in any way, He also took our group pictures which we also appreciated. We were at our table for 3 very enjoyable and memorable hours! We will be back!
Food was so-so. Average.
Service was less than average. Server is just not engaged in his job tonight.
And ambiance was chilly. Literally! Doors wide open to patio but no heaters running. People dining with jackets on seated on main floor. That's a lack of attention re diner comfort.
Our second visit. Great for pre-show dinner if you're going to the Majestic. We were going to be seated outside but most of the chairs had remnants of bird droppings, so we chose to go inside. The server was friendly but a bit overwhelmed -- perhaps they were short-staffed that day.
The food was hot and delicious. I would go again.
The concrete floors it was slippery and noisy in the main level dining. I was ready to just have a drink and leave but this place was recommended by two other restaurants we visited before and had to try the food. When the oyster appetiser showed up all was forgotten. This was fantastic. The 10 fried oysters on yucca chips. Wow. Then we had the Parilladas for two. 2 large shrimp, 2 large pieces of spicy sausage, beef, carnitas and chicken we're all cook perfect. You must add the cilantro rice with it. This was way more than we could eat but the best way to try everything we could at one visit. I recommend Acenar very much. If they had the people skills like Bohanans or Ostra they would get 5 stars.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner. The favorites were the skewered shrimp, beef, and chicken as well as the freshly made guacamole. Our server, Gilbert, enhanced the dinner with his great service!
The coconut Margarita was absolutely wonderful!!!
Best part was tableside gaucomole.
Fish tacos were good.
Room was a bit too noisy. That's my only complaint. Need plants or something to absorb noise.
The food was a solid B+, but this restaurant is very noisy and chaotic (not “energetic”). Service was so sloooow, so much so that our drinks needed refilling and we had to flag down other servers.
The best part was the tortillas that they give you to start... and the water. The rest was horrible
Worst food I think I’ve ever had at a restaurant! Chicken was bland and dry
Salsa was awful. Beans were the most disgusting thing ever. Rice wasn’t far behind.
It was a great environment and a busy night. Food was pretty good. Our table side guacamole was amazing. My husband can’t eat onions and we told the waiter but there were still onions in his food. We didn’t send his food back because it took awhile to receive it.
Worst service I've ever had in the US. But the food was great!
It was really amazing. We loved the ambiance and the food was even better than advertised.
Our server was wonderful, but the hostess wasn’t too kind, and didn’t acknowledge us when we tried to ask her a question. Food and drinks were great! Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait 20 minutes for a table.
Our food orders had not been taken after 45 minutes of sitting at the table. We paid for our drinks and left without eating.
Great food but it is so loud it is hard to have a conversation at the table
The roasted red tomato salsa was great...the Fish tacos were amazing! The Jalapeno Honey sauce was fabulous!
I googled Acenar, and was not disappointed!
The food was very competent but not outstanding. Indoor seating is challenging due to the noise level (and that's not something that normally bothers us).
I was a little disappointed with Ácenar. It look like it was new modern take on Tex mex on their website but it was just plain food. I got the enchiladas verdes and they tasted like they had been under a hot light for a while and were not that interesting. My husband got the shrimp tacos and thought they were ok. Nothing special about the rice and beans. The website said they have a great happy hour but the problem is it is only in the bar. Don’t think we would go back again. ☹️😒
Great salsa. Food was very tasty. We will return.
I really enjoyed my anniversary so much. From the food to the mariachi band everything was amazing.
Was not very impressed. The service was fine. We felt like they were reaching to be a higher end restaurant but came up short. The food was not bad it just wasn’t very good. It was surprising because it seemed like it was highly recommend.
Amazing margaritas and guacamole! Worth a short walk through beautiful downtown San Antonio!
We've been going to Aceñar for years, used to be an excellent dining experience, now not so much. Still good, no longer awesome. If you're wanting to carry on a conversation over dinner, skip the back room... the noise level is ridiculous, especially with a couple of large groups. Really need to look at the acoustics, Aceñar, need some sound absorbing material in there.
We went before heading to the Majestic and it was perfect! Delicious margaritas and the food was excellent!
The food was delicious, the margarita was perfect, and the tres leches cake was to die for! It was easy to access from the Riverwalk. The salsa with the chips was smoky with the perfect amount of spice. I got the jicama shrimp tacos with a side of beans, and I was satisfied. Even though they were very busy, I had good service. I definitely recommend reservations!
Food was great, and Decor as well. It was a bit loud, especially by the time we left. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Friday evening.
