They seem genuinely disinterested in whether you’re there or not. We were seated facing a blinding late afternoon sun despite an apparent abundance of empty tables. Protest got no response until the waitress finally tried to place a patio umbrella to block some of the sun, but we were nearly done by then. Food was just OK. We’ve enjoyed this place in the past, but the last couple times not so good. Don’t think we’ll go back for a while.
The tortillas are AMAZING!!!!
Food overpriced for what you get. Cannot get happy hour drinks in restaurant must sit in bar. Same with appetizers. Service slow until finally order..once order food comes out fast. Son loved the oyster tacos. The beef fajitas very chewy. Convenient to what we were doing but will go elsewhere next time.
Pretty good. My wife had the special red snapper, which was excellent. I had chicken mole which was overcooked.
Stopped upstairs at Happy Hour before eating. The bartender clearly didn’t want to be there! Had we not read so many great things about the restaurant we would not have tried it! He needed a real attitude adjustment!
Traditional restaurant on the Riverwalk. The atmosphere was casual and laidback. Service was excellent. Ariana was very attentive and knowledgable. Food was very good, for the price. Would return again.
This is our second visit to Acenar. We like it for its proximity to the Majestic. Their food and drinks are good. The selection is bigger than standard TexMex, though they have that, too. It’s a little noisy.
This is our favorite place to eat, downtown, and since it was Mother's Day, her request. We sat on the patio, this time, which greatly helps with the noise level. Inside can get awfully noisy. We changed our normal order and had the seafood enchiladas. A new favorite! The cucumber/jalapeno margarita is worth re-visiting. Service was really outstanding, this time. A memorable experience for Mom on her day.
Great variety of food selections for Sunday Brunch.
It was good!! Food was good. Service was timely.
The restaurant seemed ok, but nothing to gush over. Service was rushed. They never brought my wine order and they never came to refill my daughter's tea. The food was so so. Nice presentation but taste not so good. My enchiladas seemed microwaved because the tortilla was hard and super chewy. Went for a Mother Daughter day outing and we both walked away disappointed.
We were entertaining out of town guests, and choice this spot for the atmosphere and positive reviews. The wait service was not good. Our waiter rarely made an appearance, and there was a very long interval when we thought perhaps he had just up and quit for the night.
No mangers. No customer service. Sloppy. It was dirty. No one was polite. Or helping out. Never again
I’m in a wheelchair and they had me stuck in the elevator lift for 15 minutes. The lift also went further up that the door almost injuring my head.
Dined on the patio, much quieter than inside and has the added benefit of a view of the river! Enjoyed a scrumptious meal with an old friend where the food and service were impeccable. Could not ask for more. Great dining experience!
The experience started off poorly, when we arrived and was told that even though we had a reservation it did not guarantee us a table. The hostess was extremely rude. We went to the bar to have a drink to wait for our table. The was disgusting. Some other patron had eaten a lime and placed it on the menu. The bar was dirty. The bartender tried to clean it, but our table was then ready. We were seated outside as requested. Outside seating is a joke, you can't see the river or anything for that matter because of the concrete wall. Our table service was sticky and along with my chair. So I asked for something to clean it with. The place was seemed really dirty. We ordered the table side guacamole and a couple of drinks. Our server didn't speak the entire time of preparation. I guess I thought it was going to be a good experience. But it wasn't. the guacamole was just ok. Nothing to write home about. We decided to leave as the overall experience wasn't sitting well. I would not recommend this place. There are so many other places on the riverwalk that are better. We went to the Iron Cactus, which I'd recommend over this place.
Love this place. Great food. Great service. Outside seating by river very nice.
We picked this restaurant because it had several awards and lots of outdoor seating. The food wasn’t any better than a lot of other Mexican restaurants, but prices are a bit higher. If you want outdoor seating, don’t bother making a reservation, just show up in plenty of time to wait for a table. I included outdoor seating as a special request, for an 8p reservation, but was told it would be another 30 minutes to be outside. Overall, disappointed.
The bar tender gave us the WORST experience ever downtown. He should be fired.
Margaritas were just ok, but the seafood enchiladas were quite good. We had no problem getting a table for seven, even though it was a Friday night during Fiesta, and the service was prompt.
Lovely spot to grab a bite before Cornyation. Our server was as helpful and accommodating. The table-side guac was very good. The mushroom crepe was excellent. My companion loved the mole, though the chicken was a little dry. Our other companions made positive comments about the chicken chalupas and cheese enchiladas. Would definitely go back. We sat inside since we were in a hurry; the outdoor area overlooks the river and would have been a good place to hang out.
Had a reservation and was seated immediately. Drinks were good. Food was good. Definitely the best Mexican food on the river.
The waitress we had was absolutely amazing.
She was attentive, funny, and informative.
Some of the food was extremely delicious and an excellent price ( ex: enchiladas and dessert)
Some of the food was good but not as good as the others ( chipotle chicken, queso dip)
Our server was very nice but not real fast. We chose to sit by the Riverwalk rail which was very dirty with bird droppings. Two of the chairs had the legs cut short so were too low for the table. The margarita was mediocre and the beer warm. The chile relleno was huge and fully stuffed. Maybe if the area of the patio was cleaner, the rating would be higher. The food was average.
Special evening with girlfriend & wanted nice dinner/experience beforehand, and Acenar delivered! Thx!!
Delicious guacamole! Delicious tres leche cake! Super delicious blood orange margaritas!
Could not carry on a conversation because it was so very loud. Food was good but service was horrible.
Excellent, creative menu and great location, right on San Antonio's RiverWalk. We sat outside on a rather breezy April Saturday but still enjoyed the locale and food.
My wife and I had a good meal, we really enjoyed the chips and salsa, as well as the table side guacamole!! For our mains we shared 2 dishes I ordered the steak tacos with charro beans and Mexican rice and found this dish to be delicious!! My wife ordered the stuffed pepper which lacked flavor but her side dishes of black beans and rice were very good. Overall we were pleased with our meal!
The food was fabulous! Everybody loved their meal. We were impressed with the prices. Very reasonable. We will definitely be returning to your restaurant.
The food was average at best. The place was filthy and the restrooms were a complete mess. We were really looking forward to this place based on reviews but would not go back
Fun location; great food; superb service (at least for us!). Highly recommend when you visit River Walk!
We enjoyed casual outdoor seating. Staff was attentive and food was delicious.
Yes, however I would go again to see if the food was better before recommending someone else to go. The enchilada's were not good, it was a special night and the beginning was dinner.
Attentive service - speedy delivery on food - quality of the food was excellent including the presentation. The only downfall that ruined our experience was the table of 8 sitting next to us were so incredibly loud. With that said, the restaurant has concrete floors and nothing to absorb sound, therefore our table of 6 weren’t able to have any proper conversations. I would recommend sitting on the patio instead. If we hadn’t received our food so quickly, I would have requested to move our table of 6 to another location due to how disturbingly loud the table next to us was.
Our server was very nice, however, due to the noise in the restaurant he had difficulty hearing our orders. He came prepared with water and complimentary chips, but because it was lunch hour we didn't get any questions regarding refills or service. Overall the food was good, but the atmosphere was busy and in effect, we didn't get quality service.
The food was ok. Some of us liked our dishes and some did not. Drinks were good. Our server was very busy and simple things seemed to take longer than they should. The ambience was fine and we got a patio spot next to the river but the table was tightly packed in.
Veggie Relleno was delicious! Great table-side guacamole.
We've eaten at Acenar many times. The BEST Guacamole salad on the river walk. Made fresh right at your table. Really convenient to the Majestic Theater. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We were a party of 6 and waited 20 minutes before being seated for a reservation. We were seated in a corner that was extremely loud and asked to be reseated. We then were put outside on a patio where we were all uncomfortably cold. It was a less-than-memorable experience despite the food being good. Service was marginal...way too busy for the staff on hand.
