Restaurateur Lisa Wong (of Rosario's fame), and her business partner Pete Selig (of Biga & Maverick fame), joined forces in 2005 to launch Ácenar … one of the largest and most innovative contemporary Mexican restaurants and bars on the River Walk. Guests will enjoy a modern take on Texas regional Mexican dishes inspired by the history and heritage of these two cultures.
Our professional team, led by Executive Chef Richard Sánchez - delivers a culinary explosion of bold Latin-infused flavors. Enjoy many fine selections of Gulf fish, crab and shrimp, or piping-hot San Antonio style enchiladas, savory chiles rellenos, sizzling parrilladas, asadas and cabrito — all made to your satisfaction.
Our multi-level spacious restaurant features floor, balcony and outdoor seating. Enjoy daily happy hour specials and a weekend brunch.

I have never been to a Tex-mex restaurant where you pay 4.00$ for chips, so we didn’t order any. The food was good, but my mind kept going back to this.
There was a mariachi band going from table to table singing and playing their guitars and trumpet during a PANDEMIC! They obviously had to take their masks off to perform. What the hell is this restaurant thinking? What better way to project particles than through your trumpet and by singing. There was also a party of over 40 people partaking in some event during a PANDEMIC! All these things made us feel very unsafe and we will never go there again as they clearly had no safety concern for their patrons. We have been going here for over 10 years and unfortunately we will never return. With regards to our level of service, it was by far the worst service we have ever received there.
Service and food have deteriorated at this once #1 Mexican restaurant.
We had a good time here, we were there at 11 am on Saturday, after open table suggested it for brunch. We arrived and were given a dinner menu. We asked and they brought a brunch menu, which the hevos rancheros was great.
Fantastic all around! The Coconut Margs are a must!
The food was amazing. Mariachis were super fun. Guests from out of town stated it was a little loud(patio) for conversation. Overall a great experience
Food was very good. Great location near Riverwalk
This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Get anything on the menu. You won’t have regrets.
Food was amazing service was very attentive and friendly. The outside seating area was beautiful but we ended up behind a pillar which was a bit awkward and dark. Some of the lights were not on right above us.
However we would absolutely return and recommend
Fantastic food and service. Nice quiet atmosphere.
The four of us enjoyed the food and service. Ácenar is usually much more lively but the Covid virus has really hurt business downtown. This is an excellent restaurant and we hope it survives the downturn.
Drinks were good, food was just average and service was good.
Not exactly the cleanest restaurant, food was good, but over priced, like everything on the river walk.
Our food was on point! Our waiter, Eugene, did an excellent job.
They did not explain that Restaurant Week Menus did not start till 5pm when I made our reservation!
Dirty, poor service. Would not go back to this place.
It had been about 10 years since i had been here. I now remember why.. Had a reservation. When we arrived, the hostess stand was slammed and the hostess was no where to be found. Even after several minutes. We were seated in what was clearly the overflow room. Our server was severely in the weeds and we were definitely an after thought. Went for restaurant week. Appetizers were outstanding! The meal went downhill after. Steak was overcooked. These Leches cake was ok, nothing outstanding. The manager came by at the end of the meal. We have had much better experiences elsewhere.
Delicious food. My daughter had the kids chicken nuggets and she loved them.
Made reservations for 5 to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived they had a notice of hours changed on the door. Why was the reservation accepted if they opened later in the day? They should have updated Their phone message to reflect the time change.
I’ve been to Acenar before but that was many years ago. I was impressed with how amazing the food was still today. It’s good to have places like that to visit. We enjoyed our dinner throughly and the deserts were delightful. So glad we chose to come back!
Great food, great location on Riverwalk close to Majestic Theatre! Our server, John, took great care of us and was extremely conscientious in maintaining proper social distancing while providing us great service (easier said than done in these times).
We really enjoyed our dinner at Acenar. It is convenient and well located on the Riverwalk. The food is excellent and the menu varied. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend Acenar!
Enjoyable. Great service. Relaxing atmosphere. Attentive service.
Worst service! When brought to managements attention, I felt my concerns were dismissed. Very disappointed. The food was fantastic but the service bad.
Great spot tucked away off the Riverwalk. Great view while eating a fantastic meal on their patio.
Everything was great. The only challenge was the temperature. It was one of those still and humid evenings and the fan didn’t quite reach us.
Carnitas were block chunks that were dry and overcooked which leads me to believe they were not fresh but leftovers.
Specified a Birthday in reservation but it was not acknowledged.
this visit was part of our anniversary weekend. The service was impeccable, the food was fantastic and the overall experience was exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely be back again soon.
We were visiting my son in San Antonio and decided to try them out for an earl dinner at 4:30. The service was great and our waiter was very kind. They were using all precautions during Covid as well. We sat outside and there weren't too many people there so social distancing was no problem. The food was incredible, very good!
We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed the 4-person fajitas, chips, salsa, and guacamole, and some drinks. Gary, our server, very friendly and personable. He had many recommendations from the menu, which was appreciated. The meal came and there was way too much food! All four of us took home food from the fajitas and it was delicious.
The mole' is the BEST! When I look at the menu, all I see is the chicken enchilada with mole. Perfection! The mole' is balanced brilliantly with a complex combination of spicy, chocolate goodness Jicama taco app with shrimp also is surprisingly delicious.
Had an awesome time . Visited from Louisiana and I have to say the fried oyster nachos are absolutely amazing!!! The margaritas are delicious and will sneak up on you 😂😂 our waiter was so cool and made our experience great! We can’t wait to go back .
Nothing wrong. Food was good but kind of average. Was expecting more.
This place was recommended and was by far the best place we ate while visiting San Antonio for 3 days. Food was amazing, some of the best fish tacos ever. The sangria margarita was outstanding. Our server was amazing.
First experience eating out in person post lockdown and it was a great experience. Sat outside and enjoyed the quiet ambiance of the river and the patrons. Wonderful experience.
Acenar was beautiful. My group was outside right off the river walk. The food was delicious and the mariachi band was great. I also got a complimentary shot for my birthday! I will definitely be back.
Very tourist. Not great food. Cool ambiance. That’s about it.
Food and service was great, we choose patio dinning only there where a lot of birds out. Afterwards we came inside to the bar and the bar tender was really great and funny.
We were visiting town for Spring Break and wanted our teenagers to experience a nice patio dinner on the Riverwalk. The restaurant honored our reservation request for a river view patio table. Our server was attentive and super friendly. The food was delicious! Perfect choice for a San Antonio experience.
Had a lovely table on the patio, even though I was sitting outside when my food was delivered it never got cold . Was a beautiful environment, friendly staff, loved the atmosphere will definitely return back !
