The food and service were amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Lovely patio seating on the river walk but away from the congested areas. Fish tacos were recommended and were just okay but the shrimp and crab enchiladas were delicious. The guacamole was great as well. You can make reservations for indoor seating but the patio is first come first serve. We enjoyed our lunch at Acenar.
We sat outside on the patio overlooking the riverwalk. Overall the food came out quick, but the service was a little slow. Drinks were excellent especially the cocunut margarita..yum.. I had the tres enchiladas and fresh guacamole. They were really good. Enjoyed our lunch! Also the wildlife (birds and squirrels) were fun to feed and play with. The squirrel... the regular... came and took oranges right out of our hands. Super cute!
Food was ok, but being one of the top restaurants in San Antonio, I expected different plates.
Tacos were innovative and delicious.
Frozen margaritas were also unique and very tasty.
Lot of big parties the night we were there. Would have preferred not to be there that night. Very noisy. Service was good considering all that was going on.
Enjoyed the food and ambience. Would definitely eat there again.
The restaurant was very noisy inside, could not hear the person next to me. The drinks were very good. I had the mixed enchiladas- they were dry and overall disappointing. The check-in process was annoying as the hostess started to seat us and then took interruptions from 2 other parties. I finally found someone else. I have eaten here before and remember the food and ambiance being a lot better than my experience this past Friday night. The waiter was friendly and the service was timely.
Gary was awesome as was the food and drinks! We really got a taste of true San Antonian Tex-Mex!
Delightful! Great location, wonderful service, appealing menu, excellent food, delicious plenty-strong cocktails, and attractive, convivial decor/atmosphere. Very Covid-safety-conscious practices, which we appreciated. Would highly recommend! Would definitely return!
We enjoyed the dinner (too much food served) and the service
Did not honor reservation time at first. Originally when walking up told that other people were ahead of us for seating because they walked up at the same time as our reservation. Very unclear why they accept reservations if not going to honor them. Eventually was able to talk to someone else that honored our reservation.
Otherwise good experience—Portions are generous and food was good.
Best food we had on the Riverwalk, we got a reservation for inside but they bumped us to the front of the line for outdoor seating.
Waiter kept forgetting things we asked for, beverages, butter, flatware, plates, napkins, water. Our food came out lukewarm. The chicken cutlet was tough, had to work to cut through it. The beans (black and boracho) were flavorless. We had asked for corn tortillas and only received flour. Our waiter seemed “amped up” and kept walking around our table when he talked to us. It was our first visit and probably last.
First of all the dress code mentioned is obviously not enforced at all. Lots of hats, shorts etc. if you go, wear whatever you’re comfortable with. No need to be fancy. The service was excellent. Our server was prompt and friendly and made a great suggestion for the special shrimp taco appetizer which was very good. Chips and salsa were good too but they’re an extra $4 fee but the second best thing we had. The Acenar combo of enchiladas and fajitas sounded great but had a weird acidic burnt flavor and the fajita meat was mushy and tasted as if it had been microwaved. The carnitas were decent but not cooked long enough and were a bit rubbery in texture. Didn’t stay for dessert so I’m not sure how that is. The setting was nice but I’m not likely to be back
John was our waiter and did an outstanding job. Food was terrific. Great to see people enjoying themselves.
Made reservations and were greeted and walked to our table right when we arrived. Food was great and so were our margaritas. Would definitely go back and recommend.
The menu offered some creative dishes that our group enjoyed. The appetizers, entrees and cocktails were all fantastic. The server was friendly, answered all of our questions and did not rush us but was very attentive. The DOWNFALL was the horrendous condition of the women’s bathroom. First the trash cans were overly full, trash was stacked up the wall and spilling over. The floors of all of the stalls were covered with toilet paper. Then to add to this, the floor in the sink area had PUDDLES of water. And barely any hand soap. I was shocked because the restaurant was so lovely.
Excellent food and service
Ladies bathroom was a mess.
No pre-bussing. Had many employees walk by our table (25 times) and didn't remove our plates; that I even stacked for them to make it easy...
Margarita I ordered said fresh lime juice. Nope. Tasted like it came from a bag or bottle. Looked like it too. Fresh real lime juice or lemon juice has sediment and leaves a hue on the glass.
Food was ok. Reminded me of Chi-Chi's.
Queso = Velveeta with pico and taco meat.
The pork was done right tho.
The service and food were amazing! I would eat here again. This is delicious and we'll prepared Mexican food.
Our reservation was 8:30 pm Friday night. There was four people in our party. The table was ready when we arrived but we waited over 10 minutes for our waiter to arrive. He was cordial and took our drink order and then brought chips and salsa. After ordering the food it arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The temperature was wonderful and the taste was great. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Great food and ambiance- rooms are opened to the outdoor patios. Great service. The bathroom was trashed though. Don’t waste your $11 on the queso- not special at all. 2 people in our group got the big (little bit of everything) fajita meal and loved it and another 2 got the steak fajitas and loved it. I got the shrimp tacos- really great flavor. I would go back to this restaurant for sure.
Happy hour is the way to go good drink prices and appetizers but watch it we filled up on those and touched about half our dinner
We loved our evening at Acenar. We sat outside, had excellent service and all the food was delicious. The salsa was some of the best ever. We were tempted to come back the next day instead of trying something else!
Great find on the Riverwalk with excellent food and service!
Really enjoyed our meal. Shrimp tacos were delicious.
Floor was very dirty, including a full chicken breast next to our table. Food was okay. Probably will not return if we visit San Antonio again.
Making a reservation worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the service and the food was really good.
Not great service; ordered as soon as we sat down and it was busy but it took about 50 mins to get kids food. Took us at least 20 minutes just to get an on the rocks margarita. The food was good but there were not even tacos on the kids menu and that was a debacle. Ordered a plain taco but we were told we couldn't get it without onions and cilantro but we'd be able to pick it off. The person who delivered the food said we could get a taco with just beef and cheese. It was definitely not the best experience.
My biggest complaint is having to pay for chips and salsa. This is Texas. It’s a Tex-mex restaurant and we had to pay for chips and salsa. The entrees we had were good but the appetizers were not worth the money. I would go back if I didn’t have to pay for chips and salsa. Can you tell that really bothered me??
Pork was very dry. Took 15-20 minutes before anyone would wait on us. We had to ask someone to wait on us. Normally the food and service is great.
Our server David was outstanding and recommended all our food. Everything was great!
Vibrant atmosphere, attentive and friendly service, good cocktails. Our food had lovely visual presentation and we found the flavors nice, but not fantastic. Prices are high, but that's true of anything on the Riverwalk. Fun place to visit for a change of scene and eating with some flair. Expect good but not above average delicious food.
For a highly rated restaurant on many sites, we were disappointed. Felt very dirty next to railing due to massive bird droppings. My husbands brisket tacos were very good but my combo was a melted together mess. Would not go again.
With the water outage I understand that the restaurant was not open.however the website should have been updated to tell of closings. Reservations should not have been possible.
Right on the River Walk this is a great restaurant to stop in for some local food. Excellent guacamole and homemade chips. The "little bit of everything" dish was delicious but could have had a few more shrimp (two although rather large). This dish is for two and could be enough for 3 or 4. The house margaritas were excellent.
We both loved our entrees (mole chicken and crab tinga tacos) and the margarita that we split. They really were good. All that being said, I've read a few reviews that say that the chips/salsa should be free at a Mexican restaurant and can't help but agree. And the salsa was good, but needed something that we couldn't pinpoint. We also had a loud table behind us that sprinkled their conversation, also loudly, with profanity, so the ambiance left something to be desired.
Our waiter was awesome!! It was the first night of our honeymoon and wanted to go to a legitimate Mexican restaurant and Acenar was highly rated. It was very quiet but it was also a Thursday in January in the middle of the pandemic so I won’t hold that against them. The fire roasted salsa was our favorite and I personally had a tequila old fashioned which was unlike anything I’ve had in my entire life. I also had the acenar combo..the fajitas weren’t sizzling and was taken aback by that as the menu stated fajitas but that’s ok, the food was very good. Thanks so much for a memorable experience!!
Awesome food, great atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
