Ácenar Ratings and Reviews
We've been going to Aceñar for years, used to be an excellent dining experience, now not so much. Still good, no longer awesome. If you're wanting to carry on a conversation over dinner, skip the back room... the noise level is ridiculous, especially with a couple of large groups. Really need to look at the acoustics, Aceñar, need some sound absorbing material in there.
The food was delicious, the margarita was perfect, and the tres leches cake was to die for! It was easy to access from the Riverwalk. The salsa with the chips was smoky with the perfect amount of spice. I got the jicama shrimp tacos with a side of beans, and I was satisfied. Even though they were very busy, I had good service. I definitely recommend reservations!
This was once was a nice pre-show place to eat and have a drink or two. The atmosphere was almost always upbeat yet respectfully quiet.
The last several visits have been just an audible nightmare. The noise level inside the dining hall and adjacent extra dining room has increased to near unbearable levels...and certainly a decibel too high for a table of two to be able to hear each other!
The entire staff, Patty and everyone involved made our lunch for a birthday very special and unforgettable. The food was delicious, the scenery was great and price was good! Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Had the Empanadas which were baked and not fried or greasy as an app. Had the Sizzling Steak fajitas and the Seafood enchiladas stuffed with shrimp and crab. Amazing! Frozen margaritas were also amazing. One of the best we had. Thank you to all the staff and managers for a perfect afternoon lunch and memory!
We love Acenar and always bring our friends when they come to San Antonio for a visit. We had a Vegan with us and even when she asked about one of their Vegetarian Dishes and stating that they were Vegan, the server wasn't clear on the accommodations that could be made to adjust the menu choice to Vegan or offer additional options.
Food was delicious, if you can definitely splurge for the Queso De La Casa!
Service though, was slow and untimely. We sat for an extra twenty minutes making eye contact with every server to get our check despite there only being one other table on the patio at that point.
Still would come back!
Ambiance is not nice. We at outside and although the night was beautiful and the heaters helped with the cold the decorations of the place are kind of cheap. Outside better than inside. For me inside it has the look of a cafeteria. Food was ok, nothing special.
Don’t think I’ll go back.
A very nice dinner on a quiet night along the Riverwalk. The menu is "old San Antonio" with many authentic Mexican options beyond the usual Tex-Mex, and all the food we had was excellent. We also appreciated the very good service, including several recommendations regarding appetizers and main courses.
We frequent another restaurant owned by the same owner who owns this one. Normally, the doors are opened to the Riverwalk, however, in January they were closed. The food was great but those employees need hazard pay for the level of noise they must endure nightly. It was so loud, I couldn't wait to finish and get out. I'd requested near the restroom but didn't get that. It's not as loud as the very back room.
First time at this restaurant, unusual frigid arctic air dictated finding a spot close to hotel, and wife said “Mexican”. Solid on bloody Maria, their guacamole, tortilla soup and waiter efficient and knowledgeable. We went exotic with crab tacos and seafood enchiladas, would give a 3 out of 5 on both. But, tables and chairs ‘wobbly’, having to remedy with rolled napkins under table legs. Have no problem with modern, just maintain and replace so furniture not a distraction to the staffs hard work.
Celebrated my mom's 50th here, (12/31/17) to be exact. For a New Year's Eve night, the staff was amazing in perfect flow. They seated us PRIORITY and EARLY without knowing it was her birthday in advance. The food is worth every penny you spend here. It's a moderate expense. Only complaint I have is the tip is pre-added to the final tab. I'm just glad we didn't have a crappy waiter.
Had the pleasure of having dinner here on New Year’s Eve. Wait time with reservation was minimal and our waiter was phenomenal. Complimentary appetizer (Sope) was amazing. Parrillada for two was incredible with an over abundance of food. Flavors and meat temperatures were excellent. So satisfied with the experience from start to finish on what seemed to be an insanely busy night. Chef Wong has mastered the balance contemporary flare with traditional dishes.
Mexican food in downtown San Antonio, especially the Riverwalk area, is just ok. I go pretty often and know that you need to get away from that are to find good Mexican. This restaurant fits that Riverwalk standard. Meaning, it was all just ok. The fajita meat was tender, but the seasoning messed it up. The enchiladas were pretty standard, and the beans and rice were pretty low on flavor. If I decide to eat Mexican food close to the riverwalk, I would not come back. I can get just ok Mexican food that costs less elsewhere. Service was not bad.
Dined early before football game and were met by friendly staff who promptly seated us. Very lively crowd but wait staff were attentive and took care of our needs efficiently. Ordered grilled shrimp tacos and enchiladas verdes. Started meal with generous portion of chips and their roasted salsa which was tasty. Entrees were brought to us promptly and were very hot, temperature wise. Excellent taste and very enjoyable although a bit spicier than I care for. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
