Restaurateur Lisa Wong, and her business partner Pete Selig, joined forces in 2005 to launch Ácenar … one of the largest and most innovative contemporary Mexican restaurants and bars on the River Walk. Guests will enjoy a modern take on Texas regional Mexican dishes inspired by the history and heritage of these two cultures.
Her professional team, led by Executive Chef Richard Sánchez - delivers a culinary explosion of bold Latin-infused flavors. Enjoy many fine selections of Gulf fish, crab and shrimp, or piping-hot San Antonio style enchiladas, savory chiles rellenos, sizzling parrilladas, asadas and cabrito —
all made to your satisfaction.
Our multi-level spacious restaurant features floor, balcony and outdoor seating. The interior and exterior reflect colors and designs influenced by Lisa’s Mexican and Asian heritage.

Margarita was watered down and the corn tortillas for shrimp tacos fell apart but the taste of everything was very good ! The bartenders need help very slow and don’t seem to want to wait on the ladies!
Recommended by hotel staff, easy walking distance from hotel, (except that it started to rain). The interior design was unique and although our table was in the center of the room, the staff took care of us and the meal choices they recommended were outstanding! Will remember this place next time we are downtown near the riverwalk.
Everything was wonderful, especially the food and atmosphere.
The food and service were very good. We enjoyed the outdoor dining.
The food was great and the service was excellent! We took a friend who was from Washington D.C. and she liked it too. Great experience for all.
Nice bar area so if you are dining here make sure to come early and order a drink -- especially since they only honor happy hour prices at the bar!
Great food, pleasant ambiance. Best salsa I've ever had.
Uncharacteristically slow service and uncharacteristicially bland table-side guacamole.
Great food, great service, and the perfect downtown atmosphere
Service was amazing, great drinks and great food as always
The food was excellent. Our server, Thorton, was outstanding. He made us feel so welcomed. He was professional and we hope to see him again. I am certain we will dine at Acenar again. It is a great night out and right before a show at the Majestic theater. 👏👏
Great Mexican food, yummy tableside guacamole! Need to share the latter. We enjoyed so much on Friday, despite our server that let our drinks run dry, and had “an attitude “ that we went back on Saturday for lunch.
Co-worker and I went to acenar for restaurant week lunch. Wait staff was wonderful. Valet parking available at the hotel for $7...a steal in downtown. Food was great. Best cheesecake we have had in a long time. Only concern. Was the length of time it took to get the car from valet.
Beautiful patio but needs more shade or something to keep cooler
The food was really good. I especially liked the steak fajitas and the grilled shrimp. I just didn't like how noisy it was. I wish it had been a little more intimate but thats mostly because I was getting together with just two other people and we were trying to catch up and it was hard to hear. Service was great.
The food was ok, not where you'd want to go for a good meal. The appetizer lacked flavor, we could typically put away a lot of chips and salsa, but the salsa was not good enough to even finish one small bowl. Our party had enchiladas that were tough, carnitas that were ok, tortilla soup that was good and a $29 shrimp entree that made the person question the price and was totally not worth it. We opted for dessert elsewhere.
Don’t waste your money at this restaurant. Overpriced for mediocre Tex-mex. Service was subpar and you’re basically paying extra for location near the riverwalk.
This place used to be great. Service last night was iffy, and it felt dirty inside. Now it’s just another Riverwalk Mexican restaurant. I was embarrassed to bring our friend from out of town here.
The food and service were great. The restaurant needs to be updated a bit or repainted and the menus were torn or put together in spots with tape. Minus those things the food was excellent. First impression is everything and we worried our food wouldn’t be good. Thankfully we worried for no reason.
Hands down the best service we have had in a very long time. Everyone was welcoming and attentive!
Good experience. I would have given a 5 star but my date drink was too sour.
Terrible Food. Carnitas Chunks of flavorless pork butt roast. Dry and hard as a rock. Chill relleno mediocre at best. Menus torn and old. Dirty patio seating. Never recommend nor return.
Nice setting, friendly and prompt service. Food was really just ok. The salsa that came with the chips was good, and we enjoyed the queso de la casa. I had the fish tacos, which were not amazing. I wish we had asked the server for food recommendations. As we were eating I overheard another server giving detailed info on the dishes he recommended. We wanted to eat on the Riverwalk and I honestly think that all things considered, this was probably the best bet once you consider ambiance.
We got there for a 6:30 meal, wasn’t too crowded. Took a while for the waited to get to us, but that was ok. Ordered the table side guacamole, that was great. Our entrees, however, were not so good. Didn’t even eat half of it. Ordered dessert - the pineapple flan for me, not overly impressed, seemed way too heavy for flan, and tres leches cake which was surprisingly delicious.
Would not recommend or go back.
Waiter made the visit. Food was too hot upon delivery, but when it cooled down, it was good. Drinks were small.
My boyfriend and I have been coming to this restaurant biannually for the past few years, when we come for a music convention in February and July. Our San Antonio trips are always accompanied by a trip to Acenar. This past week we attended as usual, and sadly the service/food drastically changed. Our waiter was slow, scattered, and forgetful. We didn’t receive beverages for 20 minutes because our waiter claimed that the kitchen didn’t have clean drink ware when we arrived, and when our food came to the table he forgot to bring silverware for 5 minutes. We overheard him making tableside guacamole for the table next to us, mixing all of the ingredients, then came to realize at the end that he forgot a bowl to scoop the guacamole into. By that time the flies had swarmed all over their food.
Overall, the food just didn’t taste the same. Wondering if Acenar is under new management? Hopefully they can get it together, because this is one of our favorite places in downtown SA.
Love the Mole Enchiladas. We have to eat here every time we come to San Antonio.
Great place. Happy hour offers wonderful drinks and bites at outstanding value. Recommend for any occasion.
Always a favorite downtown choice. Great case dip. Chipotle chicken was perfect. Duck chulapas are also a favorite.
Best Mexican on the riverwalk. Great salsa and entrees.
Drinks are great but waaaaaaaaay overpriced for what you get.
I had an amazing experience! My server was so nice and knew every detail and a bkgd info to food ordered.
Great service from Kelky this evening for our party of four. Food was Great! The meal was not rushed and leisurely. The table also had a great view of the Riverwalk.
Every time we go to the Majestic we eat at Acenar. Wouldn't try anything else since this is the very best restaurant around there.
Food and service was really good. A really diverse menu with options to change the contents of some of the items (beef in the enchiladas which is not on the menu). Reasonably priced as well. I had the short rib tacos. They were really good. Could have used a little more sauce though.
Great time with a group of our friends! Drinks are awesome and food was exceptional as always. Decor is fun, and the patio is a nice place to enjoy a view of the river. Good place for a casual or a romantic meal!
Good, waiter was a bit snippy when asked for sour cream enchiladas & corrected us by saying their is no such thing as sour cream sauce. Then also corrected us for asking where the fajitas are on the menu, by saying you mean the “skirt steak”. Other than that food was good & drinks.
Best option for Mexican food on the riverwalk but not great service.
Food was great and was reasonably priced. Waiter was extremely professional. Thanks
Went on a weekday night with the family. Service was pretty much the only think I can say was very good. Food was ordinary. The place can certainly do with an update.
