Ácenar Ratings and Reviews
Service was great, our food came to our table very fast. We also were dining around 5:30 so that was probably part of the reason. Our waiter, Marco, was very personable and enjoyed the talking with him as he served us. We had the table side guacamole which was fantastic and highly recommend that as an appetizer. Main dish was very good and the desert was incredible.
The restaurant was beautiful and served beautifully prepared food. 3 of us had dinner; business so met at the bar. I'm not a big tequila drinker so I ordered an old fashioned as was treated to one of the BEST OLD FASHIONEDS I've ever had. He took the time to sear the peel thereby heating the orange oil/essence. It was incredible. Our meal was spectacular; my snapper was cooked to perfection and I could still be dining on the cilantro rice. Great combination of flavors, colors and vegetables. I can't wait to go back!
Plenty of room for improvement when it comes to service. Food was super delicious especially the Pescado a la Veracruzana. Great mojitos and margaritas. Table was very small. Had to decorative piece and place our glasses of water on the ground under the table to make room on table.
With a quaint table on the river's edge, this place was both delightful and the food was fabulous! our waiter was very prompt, personal and a pleasure to interact with. The menu offered a variety of great Mexican dishes and the atmosphere was exciting! I would recommend this establishment to friends and family!
We were a half an hour late for our reservation (10 of us) due to a bad accident on I35. We were all coming from New Braunfels. The staff was exceptionally understanding and accommodating. They saved our table for us and provided quick service so we could still make our show at The Majestic Theater. Margaritas were excellent and food was very good.
The food was excellent. However, the service was very, very slow. In addition, I had requested a river view table for my kids and I to enjoy an outdoor dinner and when I arrived at my specified reservation time, I was told I needed to wait 30-45 minutes to get seated if I wanted a river view table. The host mentioned that river view seating is first-come-first-served, which is not specified either in their website or Open Table. Bottom line, if you don’t mind not the best service all around as long as the food is excellent, then this is the place for you.
This would have been a perfect evening if I had been informed that we could not make reservations for the patio. Apparently that is first come, first served but when I called to confirm I was not told that. We would have made it a point to get there earlier.
I always look forward to eating here when visiting San Antonio. The food and service did not disappoint. However, the pigeon population was a major distraction. They were actually aggressive. Spoiled what otherwise was a delightful lunch with friends and a nice Riverwalk setting. Will consider eating inside if I go back.
The food we had at Acenar was delicious! We tried the Queso Flameado appetizer, which was melty, spicy goodness. Our entrees were very generous portions - the Arrachera Skirt Steak was enough to feed 2 people, but sure enough we had also ordered the Carnitas Pork Strips and went way overboard! (There should be an advisory that sharing is encouraged.) Try the Mango Habanero Margarita - just enough heat, just enough sweet. Our waiter was very attentive, the decor was bright and lively. The only drawback to the evening was that the acoustics discouraged quiet conversations, but we were really too busy eating! Will recommend Acenar to anyone wanting a different San Antonio TexMex experience!
A real gem by the San Antonio River Walk. Offers both conventional familiar Mexican dishes and chef’s specialties that demonstrate high level culinary talent. We had huachinango fish served two ways and steamed Texas goat, both stunning dishes. Began with cactus mushroom (huitlacoche) crepes that began the experience with a bang. Outstanding creative cocktails too. Lovely outdoor indoor or bar service. Can’t wait to go again and hope to get Gilbert as a server.
Celebrated my Granddaughter's up coming 14th Birthday with dinner where I surprised her with tickets to the King and I play at the Majestic Theatre. Our waiter, David, was extremely courteous, joyful and was quite knowledgeable/helpful in helping us with the menu.
Wonderful location with great outdoor seating area on the river walk. Food is excellent and not too expensive. Service could be better: had to constantly ask for tea and water refills; restaurant has the practice of having staff who are not your waiter bring the food, so they have to ask each person what they ordered.
Our experience with Acenar was great except the restaurant did not have the reservation I made two weeks prior through OpenTable. It was embarrassing as our friends watched as the host said you do not have a reservation. This, especially, since I received two emails, one from Open Table the morning of the reservation. That said, this is the first time this has occurred to me using Open Table system.
I’ve been going to Acenar and have entertained out of town customers throughout the years. Unfortunately, the food quality was very disappointing on my
last visit. I ordered the carnitas. They tasted as if they’d been fried in oil. The additional items on the plate were also very disappointing. A cenar has great outdoor patio on the river, but I felt that the food had gone the way of so many other river walk tourist traps. Very disappointed and i doubt that I will ever recommend or go there again.
