Contemporary American
Acadia is a two star Michelin restaurant in Chicago's South Loop Neighborhood. Chef Ryan McCaskey's ten course menu is seasonal with contemporary takes on classic food. Most roots come from classic American, French and Italian influences. Seafood and shellfish products will mostly be sourced from the area in Maine where Chef McCaskey spent his summers, but also which happens to be a source to some of the highest quality shellfish in the world.

Most disappointing Michelin star experience ever. Rude bartender, unattentive and forgetful waitress, average to mediocre food, and WAAAAAY overpriced. We spent $660 for two, and would not return even if it was $100. This restaurant alone makes me question the integrity of the Michelin program.

It was overall a good experience. The hosts were nice the servers knowledgeable. The chef was truly inspired and you could see his passion in every bite. My personal favorite was the mini lobster roll that was served to us when we first walked in.

Valentine’s Day menu completely not worth it. Portions too small for the price. One tiny oyster. One tiny beet. Menu also included foie gras which was not even served! Go to wherewithall for a much better experience.

Superb experience. Maddy, my chief wait staff, very attentive and knowledgeable. A cold, snowy night and this restaurant was a very welcome 3.5 hour sustenance. I was aware of the expense; it was worth the evening.

This was the best dining experience I've ever had. I knew it would be wonderful given the 2 stars, but honestly everything was perfect. Every dish was enticing and delicious, the chefs are incredibly creative but they don't miss a thing. Some places like this will make an incredible dish with creative plating/unique ingredients/good wine pairings, but have the dish taste sort of meh. This wasn't the case with Acadia. Everything was delicious and fascinating, the staff was kind, knowledgeable, and made you feel at home. I'd recommend this place to anyone for a special event, and I hear the bar is a great, much more approachable menu for those looking to go more often.

A flawlessly served perfectly executed delicious meal. We did the tasting menu and wine paring. The food and presentation beautiful, creative and thoughtful and every bite was wonderful. The staff was attentive and described every dish as well as the chefs inspiration of each. I cannot say enough how much we all enjoyed every minute

I have been to other Michelin restaurants and was skeptical after booking this one and seeing the reviews. They seemed inconsistent but after going I was happy with the experience. We came when the restaurant first opened for the tasting menu and though the meal did take long itself (about 3 1/2 hours start to finish) it had nothing to do with the service but rather that it was a 13 course meal. The waiters were very good and brought everything out in a timely manner. We loved the ambiance and the experience the only negative thing I can say is that I expected the food itself to stand out a little more just because of the price. I’ve been to other Michelin restaurants ( some 3 stars) and just felt the food was better for around the same price . But all in all great experience next time we will definitely check out the bar as well since we hear their food is really good too.

While the food was delicious, there were several notches for the New Year’s evening. For starters a bunch of us (6-8 couples) were locked out of the restaurant before entering and despite the valet knocking the door only was opened by the partner of a smoker (after she called him on her cell); after finally getting in we were completely ignored by the bar tenders, then about 15-20 minutes later offered a glass of champagne. The wine sommelier was AMAZING but service was somewhat pretentious and not as top collar as one would expect! Not likely to return nor will we recommend. Sorry.

It’s important to understand I don’t leave such a review lightly. Nor do I normally take notes while dining. But this was such a poor experience given the expectations (2 Michelin Stars, special NYE dinner at $350 per person without wine, tax or tips).

We’ve been to many Michelin-Starred places before, and several in Chicago.

After this poor experience I cannot fathom how Acadia got such a prestigious culinary accolade.

Detailed notes:

* Perhaps because they were serving the same thing to everyone in waves, most dishes didn’t feel freshly made and instead were a bit like someone left them under heat lamps, so they all come out at once. If anyone from the restaurant reads this - please reconsider your NYE organization in the future. I get it that you’re trying to finish close to midnight so everything is timed, but if quality becomes sub-Michelin-Star, what’s the point of coming here?
* Someone from the restaurant was videotaping and photographing constantly while we were dining - it was not conducive to a relaxing meal. Maybe this is OK in a club, but not in a fine dining establishment.
* Rock hard macaron, if anyone made that in France they’d be fired (was chocolate mixed with caviar, but the dryness and hardness was the problem, not the flavor profile).
* Weird scallop/truffle/yuzu dish - had what tasted like really bitter pieces of orange peel. I didn’t taste scallop nor truffle. Mostly what tasted like a less sweet orange marmalade with herbs added.
* Waiter didn’t describe one dish, said “you heard it from the other guy next to you” - we hadn’t heard actually but he left before I could say anything.
* Overdone octopus for the DIY tacos (the very spicy mole had a very good taste though).
* The veal cheeks themselves were very tasty, but dry and cold.
* Incredibly bland foie gras - how did they manage that?
* The venison with the tamarind sauce was good but the venison was cold and the sauce almost ice cold

Could say more but not enough characrers.

The food was good, but not worth the price we paid. I confirmed my menu for me and my wife before hand and then was informed at the restaurant, that my menu (non veg, no beef or seafood) could not be accommodated and had to have the vegetarian menu, even though i had confirmation via email that it would be okay. This was something i had confirmed twice before coming to the restaurant. With that being said, the vegetarian entrees that were served were good, but not worth the price.

Food was good but somethings better than others. Was not nearly the 2 Michelin star we expected though. Service was slow and we only had 3 courses after being seated an hour. Dragged so long we left before dessert: maybe we are too old but by 1030 we were tired and just wanted to leave and weren’t even close to done. Had an 8p reservation.

A great experience all around! Beautiful setting. Stupendous service, not only attentive, but exceptionally engaging. The food was delicious. Each course was enough to savior the taste, but no so much that we were stuffed at the end of the night. A special place indeed.

I appreciate the South loop location which is both very accessible and makes it easy to park. The space is elegantly understated. Tables are spread far apart so there is a feeling of intimacy. My wife and I dined on a Wednesday evening for her birthday. The space was about 30% full, so it was very quiet. Food is what you would expect from a Micheline 2 star restaurant---highly creative, elegantly presented and flavorful. Portions are a bit precious. Wine pairing was spot on. For a 2 star restaurant the service was good but not to the standard of the food; it felt like they knew how to deliver outstanding service but could't pull it off due to lack of experience. Some of the wait staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes and others were fumbling with how to pronounce Pho and the ingredients. Also, I'd like to know with a wine pairing if a wine was paid with one dish or two consecutive dishes. The funny thing was that we were given a breakfast muffin as a present upon leaving. Looking forward to it the next morning we discovered it was literally rock hard and could not even get the paper wrapper off it.

The service was stellar and the ambiance was lovely. The food however didn't reflect the price. A lot of the dishes didn't deliver on flavor or uniqueness. There was a particular dish that made us feel like Acadia was wasting food – the squash dish. I would sadly not return to Acadia for another dining experience.

Was expecting a lot more out of a Michelin 2 star restaurant. Dishes were eye-catching but very average tasting. The Wagyu was awful and none of us finished it. And many of dishes made us look at each other and say “meh”. The wine pairing was not so much a pairing as a series of wines poured when you had empty glasses. The wines were not “paired” to the dishes in any way, especially with regard to the timing of the wines poured. We were so disappointed with the whole experience. Not to mention the service was super slow. Our dinner started at 8:00pm and ended at 12:15am. We kept hoping as the restaurant emptied out that our service would become quicker, but no. We almost asked for our check early just to prompt them to speed up, but decided we didn’t want to make a scene.

For the money, this is a hard pass.
