Academy Ocean Grille - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We had New Year's Eve dinner. They had a reduced menu but great options and excellent prices on wine by the bottle. There was also a very reasonable pris fixe 4 course menu option. We eat here regularly and have always had excellent food and attentive service.
We were on the Cape for Veteran's Day Weekend and were looking for a nice yet not too expensive meal. We found it. Very nice place. Only think I woulds say is that since the summer people are gone, the median age goes WAY up. My wife and I are in our early 50's and we were the youngsters of the room.
Everything was as we expected - perfect. A delightful evening spent at your establishment. A special singling out of your bartender He runs a tender bar. I like a guy who has spark and some banter to go along with the drinks. The waitress was natural and possessed a sense of humor

We have driven by Academy Ocean Grille for years during the summer and it was always crowded so we were able to try it slightly off-season. While the decor is nothing special the food was varied, interesting and very good. There was many options and being on Cape Cod it was nice to see a variety, including seafood.
The service was good, pleasant from a person clearly happy to see the busy summer season coming to an end.
We certainly plan to go back, many other choices to try!
We went for Sunday Brunch. We've had dinner there many times and it's one of our favorite restaurants around. Their brunch has echoes of the dinner menu. There were four of us. The Brie and raspberry rolls with lime yogurt were excellent. We split it just to try it. It came with five very small rolls (think tiny spring rolls). Our party ordered gravlax on potato pancakes, the fried seafood platter, the crab melt, and the beef ravioli with portobello mushrooms and asparagus in a wonderful wine sauce. The seafood platter was huge and reportedly tasty. The raviolis were wonderful although the portion was somewhat small (four raviolis). The crab melt was somewhat unexceptional. The crab tasted a bit fishy and was "mushy" according to the diner. It was the only meal that we wouldn't order again.
Then onto the desserts. We tried three and split them. The baked chocolate pudding was dense and chocolatey and definitely calorie worthy. It made us close our eyes and say, "ooh". The sticky toffee pudding (my favorite) was sweet and brown sugary and probably spiked our blood sugars out of the park but I t was oh so good! We also ordered a special lemon cake which our diners loved. The waitstaff was friendly and outgoing. Our waitress chatted us up and joked with us and was very welcoming as was the person who seated us. No complaints at all. I'd love to go back and try some of their other choices. It was a delightful way to spend a Sunday with friends.
We hadn't been here in many years but were thrilled to come back and have a very delicious dinner. Chef is changing the menu weekly to offer fresh, seasonal creations. We both had fish (sole and halibut) and it was excellent. We ate on the early side so it was nice and quiet when we got there. We'll definitely go again!
The manager/owner/ maitre d' was the rudest greeter any of the four of us had ever experienced. One guest was gluten free. The excellent waitress recorded all this information and sent it to the kitchen. Her dinner, indicated in the menu to be gluten free, came with ravioli, a gluten item, at the bottom. The waitress was appalled.
When confronted at the end of the evening the manager/owner/maitre d was totally rude, did not apologize and blamed it on the waitress. The food was okay, but the evening was ruined by the rude greeting followed by the fact that the gluten free symbols on the menu cannot be trusted. The manager/owner/maitre d did not accept respnsibilty, as he should have. The reservation system worked very well. I do not recommend going to be insulted at this restaurant.
A perfect meal. One member of our part is allergic to pepper (the seasoning). The waitress went to speak to the chef, who, it happens uses pepper in all his preparations, so he offered plain grilled fish, begs and no potatoes as they were peppered. Our friend was very disappointed until her beautiful dinner plate arrived, overflowing with food, including a delicious fresh pasta side in place of the potatoes and two vegetables! Happy ever after!
Imaginative menu and lives up to it! What arrives on your plate exceeds expectations. Prices are very reasonable considering what you get for your money. Staff are friendly and efficient. Great ambiance. Dine here when you are in or near the charming town of Orleans. You will be glad you did.
Very pleasant surprise. We hadn't gone there for many years, and when we finally returned it had improved dramatically in elegance and in service. We would certainly return there. As usual, there were always things that we would prefer not to have on the menu: those stringy stems that adorn the plate, stick in your teeth, and don't add any flavor to speak of, for one.
My halibut was super-fresh and perfectly cooked. Incredibly tasty combined uniquely with vanilla bean cream sauce and crispy cashew bread crumbs on top. My husband's swordfish was equally delicious. Waitress was extremely helpful with recommendations and prompt friendly service. We can't wait to go back!
