We had New Year's Eve dinner. They had a reduced menu but great options and excellent prices on wine by the bottle. There was also a very reasonable pris fixe 4 course menu option. We eat here regularly and have always had excellent food and attentive service.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Nice restaurant for everyday dining or a special occasion.
Several quite good bistro-like meals here lately have made AOG one of my favorite places on the lower Cape. Low profile, not ostentatious, pleasing food, we leave feeling great!
We had our Thanksgiving meal here this year. Service was great, food delicious, and it was quiet--- seems they know how to manage sound, unlike most restaurants.
We were on the Cape for Veteran's Day Weekend and were looking for a nice yet not too expensive meal. We found it. Very nice place. Only think I woulds say is that since the summer people are gone, the median age goes WAY up. My wife and I are in our early 50's and we were the youngsters of the room.
Everything was as we expected - perfect. A delightful evening spent at your establishment. A special singling out of your bartender He runs a tender bar. I like a guy who has spark and some banter to go along with the drinks. The waitress was natural and possessed a sense of humor
Jay Mahoney ( the side car guy)
The food at the Academy is always good. I have never had a bad meal there and I recommend it all the time. One of our favorite places here on the Cape.
Excellent service and food. We had swordfish and halibut both of which were fresh and tastefully prepared. Recommend to go to for seafood
The server was most attentive, delivering fine food with friendly polite service.
We go by all the time but now we'll stop much more often.
No steps were at treat for our handicapped guest.
We have driven by Academy Ocean Grille for years during the summer and it was always crowded so we were able to try it slightly off-season. While the decor is nothing special the food was varied, interesting and very good. There was many options and being on Cape Cod it was nice to see a variety, including seafood.
The service was good, pleasant from a person clearly happy to see the busy summer season coming to an end.
We certainly plan to go back, many other choices to try!
Great table to start, then excellent service with a smile and all 4 of us loved the presentation and quality of our dinners!
Very attentive service for my gluten free dairy free needs! Service was friendly and the menu was representative of the sea coast town location.
We went for Sunday Brunch. We've had dinner there many times and it's one of our favorite restaurants around. Their brunch has echoes of the dinner menu. There were four of us. The Brie and raspberry rolls with lime yogurt were excellent. We split it just to try it. It came with five very small rolls (think tiny spring rolls). Our party ordered gravlax on potato pancakes, the fried seafood platter, the crab melt, and the beef ravioli with portobello mushrooms and asparagus in a wonderful wine sauce. The seafood platter was huge and reportedly tasty. The raviolis were wonderful although the portion was somewhat small (four raviolis). The crab melt was somewhat unexceptional. The crab tasted a bit fishy and was "mushy" according to the diner. It was the only meal that we wouldn't order again.
Then onto the desserts. We tried three and split them. The baked chocolate pudding was dense and chocolatey and definitely calorie worthy. It made us close our eyes and say, "ooh". The sticky toffee pudding (my favorite) was sweet and brown sugary and probably spiked our blood sugars out of the park but I t was oh so good! We also ordered a special lemon cake which our diners loved. The waitstaff was friendly and outgoing. Our waitress chatted us up and joked with us and was very welcoming as was the person who seated us. No complaints at all. I'd love to go back and try some of their other choices. It was a delightful way to spend a Sunday with friends.
This is a little gem in Orleans. 13 or 14 tables and great food. My wife had cod and I had the lobster ravioli, both prepared perfectly. And the service was terrific!
Great service. Different take on traditional dishes, excellent. Great portions, definitely a second meal for home.
Good food at reasonable prices, great service and a varied menu.
Nice place! We dined there two times during vacation. Please get a nicer host. He puts a damper on the experience and doesn't seem to care about the customers. No personality! However, the wait staff is very nice and the food is very good.
Host was very friendly. Food was very bland...was looking forward to great seafood but was very disappointed. Service was slow. Only 3 other groups there...
We hadn't been here in many years but were thrilled to come back and have a very delicious dinner. Chef is changing the menu weekly to offer fresh, seasonal creations. We both had fish (sole and halibut) and it was excellent. We ate on the early side so it was nice and quiet when we got there. We'll definitely go again!
We were there for Sunday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the cod Ruben and lobster roll. There could have npbeen more lobster meat, maybe a piece of tail, but it was delicious. The homemade pickles were an added delight!
The manager/owner/ maitre d' was the rudest greeter any of the four of us had ever experienced. One guest was gluten free. The excellent waitress recorded all this information and sent it to the kitchen. Her dinner, indicated in the menu to be gluten free, came with ravioli, a gluten item, at the bottom. The waitress was appalled.
When confronted at the end of the evening the manager/owner/maitre d was totally rude, did not apologize and blamed it on the waitress. The food was okay, but the evening was ruined by the rude greeting followed by the fact that the gluten free symbols on the menu cannot be trusted. The manager/owner/maitre d did not accept respnsibilty, as he should have. The reservation system worked very well. I do not recommend going to be insulted at this restaurant.
Everything we had was excellent - seafood and steak dishes alike.
The crab cake tasted like it was made from canned crab. The caesar salad looked and tasted like it was made from boxed croutons, bottled dressing, and bagged romaine. The filet was not bad, but not particularly good either.
Consistently the best food and service. Have been going here for 8 years. Have never had bad service or bad food. Always feel very welcome!
A perfect meal. One member of our part is allergic to pepper (the seasoning). The waitress went to speak to the chef, who, it happens uses pepper in all his preparations, so he offered plain grilled fish, begs and no potatoes as they were peppered. Our friend was very disappointed until her beautiful dinner plate arrived, overflowing with food, including a delicious fresh pasta side in place of the potatoes and two vegetables! Happy ever after!
Everyone was very happy with their meal. I'd go again.
We have been several times over the last few years when we come out to the Cape. The service is always good, as is the food and atmosphere.
Imaginative menu and lives up to it! What arrives on your plate exceeds expectations. Prices are very reasonable considering what you get for your money. Staff are friendly and efficient. Great ambiance. Dine here when you are in or near the charming town of Orleans. You will be glad you did.
We've samples many dishes over the years and loved them all. Of course, the liver is a classic and all the fish dishes are outstanding.
