Academy Ocean Grille - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The food here is always outstanding - you can't go wrong. The one drawback is they never make enough of their cheese potatoes! They're very popular but they only come standard with the veal entrée, which many people don't eat, myself included. We had some disappointed diners at our table...
Our first visit, quiet dining room, but happy locals at the bar. Entrees were homemade, not from Cysco -- on the small side, but creative and tasty indeed. Wine list was limited, but value-priced. Server was natural and helpful; maitre'de was a quipster and very local. The place was out of the ordinary, like its title, but well worth an exploratory visit.
This restaurant is simply delicious. Food is creatively and perfectly prepared, and served elegantly but not with any attitude. Casual as is appropriate for the Cape. Service is superb - friendly, not intrusive, but quick. Staff is welcoming and accommodating.
good: The duck salad and veal saltimbocca were excellent!
not as good: I thought the cocktail with the pomegranate was just ok and the crab cake, while very large, was slightly off and overall bland/plain (needed to be fresher and dressed up a bit).
I think I would go back for the entrees we had for sure.
This was a lovely restaurant.. comfortable, accommodating, not stressful, and low key. However, there wasn't much memorable about it, particularly in terms of the food. Everyone's entrée was very acceptable, well-cooked and attractively-plated. But, to be honest, I've already forgotten what it was that I had...and it was only last weekend. We had been attracted by their participation in the Cape restaurant week offerings, but in retrospect, the prix fixe wasn't much of a deal....and Orleans was quite a long way to travel for a relatively uninspired evening.
We picked Academy Ocean Grille as this year's Restaurant Week pick. We went with friends. The food was excellent. We all got different appetizer, dinner and deserts. All of the food was delicious. We particularly loved all of the great original art that decorated the restaurant. In short, I would recommend this restaurant.
A small Cape restaurant with bistro appeal. Nicely appointed, delicious menu with innovative sauces. Chicken Marsala and Swordfish with a Parmesan glaze were both excellent.
Attentive service but not overwhelming. Packed in January but not too loud. Great place for small groups.
Will definitely come again when outside is open!
We have dined at Academy many times in the past but not since this past summer. We had a good meal but our waitress seemed a bit distracted. Had to ask for bread and then it didn't come until we were served our entrees. Just didn't feel like she was paying attention to us that well. Think she may have been the only server that night.
Food was very good as usual and the prices are a good value for the Cape. We will return but I can't give our evening five stars.
We had a very good meal for Thanksgiving. It was hard to find a reservation on Cape and this restaurant turned out great. Service was great, wine and beer lists diverse and the food was excellent. We actually treated ourselves to non-traditional Thanksgiving offerings of Sole and Veal and they were excellent.
We had the monk fish & scallops in a lobster sauce and it was outstanding. The dining area is attractive and quiet, allowing pleasant conversation. The staff is friendly, proficient, non intrusive and eager to please. And prices are reasonable. All around good value!
We have been to the Academy Ocean Grille two times and it is quickly becoming our go-to restaurant. We have driven by this restaurant many times, and never noticed it. But in looking for a reservation at a nearby restaurant, this popped up on Open Table. It is small (10-15 tables?) with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The specials list is pretty long so you will have a varied menu each time you show up. The food was excellent. The wait staff was extremely friendly and very efficient. All in all, a very relaxing non-pretentious place that serves great food with a smile
The food was so good here that we went twice for lunch and had the same dish - the seafood fra Diablo. It was fresh, nicely seasoned, and just the right amount. The service was good and the ambiance was simple and pleasant. This is the real thing in a field of touristy restaurants with mediocre food.
Dinner is never a miss at the Academy. Food is well prepared, service prompt and customers seem very happy.
Highly recommended even over some of the more expensive dining establishments.
The Saltinbucca is one of their signature dishes and is delicious especially when accompanied by those incredible scalloped potatoes.
We had a nice dinner here with good friends last weekend. It was their first time at this restaurant and they were very impressed. We had the calamari and everyone loved it. My husband had the biggest veal saltimbocca I ever saw and it was delicious. My salmon was very tasty. Our server was very helpful and we were greeted warmly when we entered the restaurant.
The menu is always interesting with a number or meat and fish choices. The service is attentive. The bartender knows how to mix a cocktail. I dine here often and take family and friends to dine here during the summer season and beyond. I've never been disappointed;
I eat at this restaurant often and frequently take visiting family and friends to dinner or lunch. The food is consistently good, the service is well paced and even when the dining area is totally booked, it's not difficult to carry on a conversation and be heard by others at the table.
In the summer season and on weekends, I find it's always best to make a reservation.
There were nine of us for a special family dinner - 6 adults and 3 small children, all under six. The management went out of their way to accommodate our group during the busiest time of the summer. The food was excellent and service good. My dinner was a combo of monkfish and shrimp, very perfectly cooked. Nice wine selection. We were pleasantly surprised.
We've dined here every summer and the food is always very good. We enjoy the specials. Our server was not as attentive as we have had in the past. We waited for her to initially come to our table and had to get her attention for simple requests. I'm not sure if she areas were split between 2 rooms causing delays in service. There was no delay in getting our food as it was nice and hot and very good.
