Academe at The Kennebunk Inn
Great waitress with many customers to serve. The soup was delicious. Salad delicious and ice cream great.
Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Food was amazing, definitely reccomend the chicken croquettes. Rooms are very clean and quiet. Ill certainly be back.
Happy to be back at the Inn. Brian was a great bartender and waiter.
Inn really looks nice. Too bad the noise level is higher. Could depend on KBI to actually allow conversation being heard. Floors do look fantastic.
Late birthday celebration.
Our server, Adrian, took amazing care of us. My wife and I were celebrating her birthday and from start to finish we were made to feel like we were the only diners in the restaurant. The pace of the meal was very relaxed and we were encouraged to take our time and enjoy everything, even as the dining room filled around us. The food was impeccable, the wine a perfect pairing, and I would not hesitate to recommend this experience to anyone.
The food was amazing! Had reservations, sat us right on time. Service couldn’t have been better, highly recommend this restaurants. My husband has the lobster pot pie snd was looking into getting it shipped home!
Everything about our meal was perfection the tables were spaced for social distancing. Our server was cheerful and enthusiastic. Everything we order was sublime. My life-saving Negroni absolutely was. Everyone raved about the citrus crab ravioli in the reviews, so I had high expectations. They were exceeded. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The bolognese was meaty and delicious. The molten chocolate peanut butter dessert made me break my promise to eat just one bite. If you’re in the area, definitely give this place a try. You won’t regret it.
Gourmet dinner in a hotel restaurant. The decor, almost in the hotel lobby is deceiving. It hides the fact that the restaurant and service are excellent. Don’t miss the citrus crab ravioli.
My comments relate to where we were seated….at a table in rear of the bar. I asked to move to front of the dining room where there were empty tables. Told those were for parties of 4. When we left there were parties of 2 sitting where I had requested. I approached the hostess. She gave me a non answer. Not going back. Server excellent. Food good.
It’s all about the food. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared, served at the right temperature and delicious. There are too many great items to list them all, but the citrus crab ravioli and bacon-wrapped meatloaf are particularly memorable. Gracious dining in a relaxed and charming setting.
We had an enjoyable evening at Academe. Our server was wonderful. We had mussels for an appetizer which were very good. Filet mignon for dinner was perfect, served with fresh green beans and mashed potatoes. My husband had the meatloaf which was also delicious! Blueberry cobbler for dessert was good. It was very noisy inside. We choose to sit outside. They could easily improve the ambiance with some string lights and more comfortable chairs. Also played bad music, top-40’s from the 90’s. Go for the food and great service!
Had a wonderful experience with our friends who came to visit for the weekend. Food was excellent, cocktails were delicious and so unique, and our server Betty Ann our was an absolute delight. Will absolutely be back!
Lobster pie fabulous. Elizabeth was our server, outstanding. Crab ravioli delicious
Great food and friendly service. Everything we ordered tasted fantastic! Place looks like it was recently renovated as well. We wish they had more fish options, however, for dinner. We will go back!
The corn bisque and lobster pot pie were delicious 😋
The Appetizers at the Academy are amazing!!! Get the fried green beans! Also the deep fried Oreos are delicious- 😀
We thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful meal! We definitely will come back.
Delicious food and service!
Service was great as we had the owner wit on out table! There were 4 of us and every meal, especially the lobster pot pie, was delicious. Drink pours were generous and it was an overall good dining experience.
As always the food and wine selection is wonderfully creative.
Food was great and so was the service!
very pleasant and accommodating server; food (meatloaf and chopped salad) were very good; a bit noisy due to bare floors; hope it's cozy in the winter because we want to eat there often
Food was great and our server, Amanda, was terrific! Loved the Lobster Pot Pue and Citrus Crab ravioli.
The Lobster Pot Pie flaky pastry was not the same. For being short staffed. Betty Anne was very attentive and cheerful. Great service.
We chose to go to Academe due to its reputation and desire to try Lobster pot pie. Very sorry to say that 3 of us who ordered the Lob Pot Pie were deeply disappointed, with only positive response was " the pastry was great but would never order again". The 4th diner at table had Fidh n Chips, love the Chips but fish was MEH. We really wanted to post a very positive review, but have to be honest. Alsi we told our server who was fabulous by the way (and serving the entire room), our concerns about dinner and I wrote a note as well and no owner or chef bothered to stop by our table. The opinions expressed here were those of all diners at our table.
In short, a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Mediocre food, poor service topped off by a table full of loud people with no effort to quiet them. Location and menu have potential but a lost effort tonight.
Hidden gem in the Kennebunks. Awesome
Sat at the bar and had one of the specials (Lobster Croquettes). The meal was phenomenal. Best I’ve had while in Maine this past week. The bartender, Brian was super hospitable and made the experience that much better. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you’re in the area! Cheers.
We have been coming to Academe for years, even before becoming Kennebunk residents. I can't remember a time that Adrian, Diane and Brian were not visible; always working, always making folks feel welcome. It is a wonderful atmosphere, with outstanding fresh food and exemplary service and we recommend this restaurant to everyone! I think my parents have been coming here since the 80's! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
We love Shanna and Brian’s beautiful renovation, and the cuisine is always fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. A big win!!
If you’re looking for absolutely great food in a quiet, laid back place then Academe is a nice departure from the overcrowded tourist spots in the Kennebunks. We sat at a table in the bar area (lighting was a bit too bright in the dining room) and Amanda was our server. She was exceptional! Prompt, kind and caring she is a wonderful example of what great service should be. Academe is run by a husband and wife chef combo and it shows.
The food is the star here. We had salads to begin and my Caesar (ask to have them add anchovies) was one of the best I’ve had. My wife’s blue cheese beet salad was equally fantastic.
My wife had the crab-stuffed ravioli with jumbo prawns and mussels. Every bite was exquisite! I had the haddock sandwich with onion rings. Both the sandwich and the rings were awesome. Sadly, we didn’t leave room for dessert.
Overall, great dining experience and, if you’re looking for a low key place with fabulous cuisine and great service, Academe is the place for you!
Some dishes were good; and others were mediocre. Several of the items ordered were over- priced and a poor value. The ambience and service had deteriorated since the last visit two years ago.
Citrus crab ravioli with mussels and shrimp is delicious!!
The waitress Amanda was great!! Very knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. She was right on her game even though there were only 2 waitress for the dining room. The Kennebunk salad is always delicious. We had the nachos and the "pizza of the day" and left feeling full and satisfied. We have been going to Academe for many years and have never been disappointed. Of course we will be back!!
Great food. Atmosphere a little sterile. Lights very bright
Since the renovation the ambiance has changed. Being a designer I found myself focused on the extreme overhead lighting. Too much!! We loved the okd, darker setting.
We had heard that the Kennebunk Inn had great pizza. Not so. We ordered a margherita pizza which was made on flatbread. The flatbread was baked way overdone. You could hardly bite it. Once chewed it was like chewing wallboard. I had sorbet for dessert that was frozen totally solid like a brick. My wife had a small chocolate fudge sundae. It seemed like the chocolate fudge was an afterthought thought, barely drizzled on. So not totally impressed with the food. Service however was prompt.
Great service. Lobster pot pie and pizza just missed the mark. Pot pie needed salt and crust on the pizza was not well suited to the toppings. Sorbets were more like shaved ice then sorbet.
Our server Amanda was great. Rose’ they had on the menu was bad. The lobster pizza was disappointing. It was tiny. The crust was hard and did not seem fresh. Nachos were really bad. Soaked with some sort of canned tomatoes. Very greasy. Fish and chips were alright. Also greasy. We got the dessert sampler. It was just okay. Overall portions were tiny. Way too expensive. Food quality was sub par. Really disappointing meal.
Nice re-do of the dining room but tables for 2 were more like bar tables - too small for dinner. Food not up to previous standards. For example, Kennebunk Inn salad had almost no pistachios or goat cheese and the dressing was bland. We each had a pasta entrée which were both just so-so. Service was very good, prices are still reasonable. Very glad it's back open and hope to see more of what we were used to from the kitchen. Maybe also a few larger tables for 2.
