Absinthe Private Dining reflects the romantic atmosphere of Absinthe’s main dining room, with whimsical hand-painted murals of the garden of Versailles designed by Willem Racké, plush upholstered furniture, a large century-old, richly framed, pre-1906 earthquake mirror from Blue Rock Inn.View Private Dining Details
We were seated in the room that had fewer seating and it was very relaxing...
I wish they had more of a selection of Cabernets...by the glass @ lower price point...The ceviche was excellent...We order mostly vegetables and was very good...My friend ordered a French 75 and it was poorly made...Overall we had a fun evening!!!
I will return soon
Some American restaurants have this quaint custom to serve their wines almost frozen, Absinthe was no exception. I thank our terrific wait person to help remedy that situation who brought me a glass of rose where I could actually smell the aroma and taste it. While the menu seems to get more limited, the food is good - if the kitchen could hold back a tad on sauces. My romaine came doused in dressing and the cod (though very tasty) also swam in sauce(s). A little goes a long way. My dining companion's hamburger was done just right. If we were planning another event, we would go back to Absinthe.
Excellent food, wine and ambiance. We had the Rock Cod, Osso Buco and Pot de Creme.
Our waiter, Patrick was excellent as was the octopus and the pork shank. I would have rated the food as excellent if the pork had less salt.
Having lunch here the other day reminded me that this may be my favorite lunch spot in SF. It is reliably great on service and food quality, and has an energetic but comfortable atmosphere. Fantastic.
One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. We had wonderful soups and hearty dishes with lots of great flavors. Great comfort food for a rainy night!
Great dinner, but we were seated so close to the next table that we really couldn't talk about anything without them hearing. So our conversations were lame. Lol. There was an empty table right next to us also and they could have put us on either side of it. Grrr.
Everything was impeccable. The people were very friendly, helpful, and professional. The food was amazing, and the presentation was exquisite. I can't wait to go back and order the fried chickpeas again.
The same shabby excellence (that's a compliment) for decades. Anyone can feel at home. My favorite SF restaurant. Just go and forgive them their minor errors. Would you feel comfortable if it was perfect?
Ordinary hamburger and ordinary fries - they used to have really good french fries as I remember.
Waiter was a little cheeky. Front people were very nice.
The service was very slow, had to hurry thru the absolutly wonderful Spanish Octipus before going to to SF Symphony.
Lovely restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. Solo dining friendly. Very convenient before a ballet, opera or symphony performance. Be sure to order the fried chickpeas to nibble on during your cocktails. Oysters, salads, fish and burgers are all wonderful.
First rate in all regards. Sad to say I have not dined here in too long a time. Glad we went. Can't wait to go back.
I’ve been having lunch here more often lately and have always enjoyed the experience. The food (and cocktails) are good and the staff is knowledgeable and prompt.
I only wish this restaurant was in my neighborhood!
Absinthe is a great, consistent brasserie. Always delicious and very good about getting you finished before showtime!
We thought we had the best table in the house! Excellent food, good service and not tooo noisy. The dinner suited us perfectly.
Wow! Wonderful. Truly. Had the Osso Buco. The BEST I have had. My husband had the Ribeye. Cooked to perfection. Will be back!
Great pre-concert location. It is small and fills up quickly even at off times, so reservations are essential. Allow plenty of time. The food is delicious and the wait staff generally attentive. We enjoyed it very much.
Cauliflower soup was light and comforting. Always order ceviche and always a treat.
Had a less than excellent experience about five or six years ago, but gave Absinthe another try. There for a small, post-Symphony dinner. The service was impeccable. The pretzel appetizer was good, but sort of paled after the first bite. Salads and pasta were excellent. Wine choices also very good. We will be back!
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Highly recommend!
Always a pleasure with consistent food and service.
Normal .....no sorprende . Relación calidad / precio es alto
Have been a number of times before pre concert, ballet, etc for lunch. Will not be going back anytime soon. The steak frites was not done as requested and was tasteless. Service was ok except no one asked if the food was okay and it wasn’t. Most annoying was the noise level.
While the atmosphere are always stellar, the service is consistently slow, particularly in taking and delivering initial drinks.
We had an incredibly delicious dinner at Absinthe last Saturday night. Highlights included:
--French onion soup (A+): Soooooooo good.
--Soft pretzels (A+): Yum, warm garlicly perfection
--Kale & apple salad (A): Beautiful presentation & very tasty. And I can pretend it was healthy since it was called a kale salad! (In reality it had nearly as much cheese and bacon as kale)
--Burger with grilled onions (A-): Don't get me wrong, this was a great burger & fries, but not quite as unique and delicious as the other things we ordered
--"Creamsicle" dessert (A): Fun take on a classic
We each had 2 cocktails and they were great! Fun to have Absinthe-inspired cocktails but also plenty of other options for those who don't love the flavor of Absinthe (like my husband)
Always good. I love the spicy chickpeas and the Caesar salad. My friend always orders the oysters. A lively crowd inhabits this restaurant.
This is a very nice restaurant...good food...interesting choices...and, it can be a lovely place to dine...if you get seated in the right room.
The room with the bar is so loud it is IMPOSSIBLE to carry on a conversation...literally.
The next room over makes hearing the people with whom you are dining quite possible.
OR...you could be lucky, as we were Saturday night, when they opened a third room with a rug on the floor and tables spaced out from one another.
It was a LOVELY dining experience!
Be prepared to spend a lot of money on a pretty pretentious wine list.
More than half the bottles ar over $100!
Great food and cocktails
Fabulous food and Patrick our waiter was outstanding. Great evening.
We are regular pre-symphony diners at Absinthe. The food is always top-notch (one of these times, I'm going to have to have something other than the coq-au-vin -- so far, I haven't found a reason to switch. It is sooooo good!). The ambiance is lovely, the service is impeccable, and in short, it's a five-star place in our esteem. Don't miss it. And, a hint? Try the coq-au-vin !!!
Consistently delicious food and great service. This is a no perfect pre-performance spot.
We continue coming to Abinsthe and enjoying our time here.
We are bar flys so we prefer to eat our meals at the bar.
The Staff are friendly and helpful. The cocktails are devine...
Octopus for dinner was absolutely incredible! Everything was top notch. Only wish I still lived in SF so I could dine there once a week! I’d love to come back ASAP!!
Our server was a little snooty for my taste but the host was very pleasant and the food was impeccable.
Always delicious food and drink. We especially love their fries, onion soup and drinks.
Service usually good.
Great atmosphere, romantic table seating was great. Yummy oysters, incredible duck & octopus entrees.
Haggar, Martine & Ramsey are stars !!!
Foods good but service lacked. Had to waive waiter down for everything. Didn’t bring bread or water.
Lovely pre-theatre meal with friends. Great service, nice table
in the corner, no rush on a Sunday night.
Wait staff very knowledgeable and helpful with wines.
Food was wonderful....except for the fries--what happened there?
Not as crispy and yummy as I remembered.
