Had such a wonderful time! Oziel was a top-notch server who was very knowledgeable about wine and also courteous. Being both attentive but yet not dominating your experience made me want to go back to absinthe soon.

Excellent menu choices, food and service. Only bummer is they sat us tucked way back in the corner while there was definitely space available in the main dining room. I asked for the dining room, but they said it was all reserved. But many tables remained open. Be sure to specify desire to sit in main dining room or bar area.

Totally legit, not like the grade inflation that so many 'trendy' SF restaurants with big pretensions and average food get.

We came for our anniversary. The service was good. I liked the pretzels but eh Coq au vin was under cooked. The vegetables were hard and the chicken wasn't falling off the bone. The waitress repeated Coq au vin to me like she was from Paris and not the East Bay. (eye-roll) Um, you heard me...Actually, I have had much better. We can say we tried this spot but don't think we will come back. Too many other restaurants to try in SF.

I went for my birthday and the restaurant shoved me and my family in the smallest corner possible. We should have eaten in a closet, it would have had more space. They were too lazy to change the menus from a day before and just made the evening awful. Busboys dropped food on the table that we were still eating. When we asked for more bread we were given attitude, another waiter physically groped me and I had to politely tell him to stop. I was so excited to take my family here now I never want to eat there again. Such an awful restaurant. If you want to be disrespected , assaulted, and have employees throw food your still eating on the floor absinthe is the place for you.

It had been awhile. I’d forgotten how inventive and delicious it is. The service was superb. The best of California style in that it was both elegant and friendly. Cocktails were great and the food outstanding.
And our server - Robert - was great!

Overall this was a great evening. Great service and food. The only exception was the pork Oso Buco. The pork was dry. The escargot and French onion soup were outstanding. The octopus and rib eye steaks were also great. Great selection of French wines.

Another memorable dinner! The Coq au vin has never disappointed, with it’s rich sauce, succulent chicken & a few crunchy celery & parsnip pieces scattered on top to offset all that richness—brilliant!

The restaurant is definitely easy to get to from the Asian Art Museum. It's on a hip street with interesting shops. Service was fine, except the waiter tended towards the brusque. The food was delicious without being outstanding. It has a nice warm atmosphere and good for a weekend brunch with friends or family.

The food was good and the place was pretty comfortable. My only complaint is the white wine by the glass. I let the server know that we like dry, mineral tasting whites. We went with her recommendation. It tasted sour. Hopefully, it was a bad batch and that isn't what the wine usually tastes like! We let our server know. She came back with two others for us to taste. One of them was also a little sour and the other one was just okay at best. Makes me wonder who is picking the white wines. The server was very nice and helpful.

Their onion soup is my favorite. Opted for appetizer salad with half chicken breast. Yum. Tasty and light. My husband enjoyed the ceviche and also the octopus. Service is terrific and we arrived at SF JAZZ in plenty of time. Perfect evening....

I love this restaurant. It is unique. It offers a European atmosphere. We were there at 5:00 so it was very quite. The seating was luxurious and romantic. The menu selections were creative. We both enjoyed our meals. My date had the Rock Cod with turnips in a red currant meunière sauce yummy. I had the Asian pear salad with feta & currants. Also the Onion soup au gratin with the best hearty broth . For appetizers we had the pork belly with butternut squash puree & brussels sprouts. It was delicious. We finished the meal with the POT of Chocolate. To die for. They have an amazing selection of cheeses too. We will have to try that next time. The waiter was exquisite. He was well mannered and met our needs. He was a delight, hovered just enough and spoke well.

Absinthe never fails. A cozy and very French bistro-feel, with good food. The food is always well-executed- we both had a beautiful crab pasta with a lemon & light cream sauce which was delicious!
Add a nice Gruner Veltliner or French white and it is a perfect afternoon respite. Still love the bar too. The only criticism I have is that the restaurant space is looking a bit tired around the edges and needs some sprucing-up. Otherwise great.

You could be in Paris. Went there for a business lunch, got a booth, and it was perfect because we could hear each other. The space is really beautiful and the murals create such a memorable ambiance. The food was terrific as was the service. It's been a few years since I was last at Absinthe but I will definitely be back more often. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The wine list is superb. This is a place where you can discover a new favorite wine. And the food is excellent. Our pasta dish kept calling us back with interesting flavors and textures and my grilled octopus was the most tender I have had. The combinatin of Romesco sauce (delicious), morels, grilled romanesco with the octopus and greens was tantalizing. Gracious helpful staff. Wonderful evening!

Absynthe is a lovely space with a retro feel. Great cocktails and quiet and calm service in the main dining room. I prefer that space to eating in the noisier bar area - if you want to have a good table conversation, request the back/main dining room. The Coq au Vin is truly a signature dish and I loved it.

We were seated in the room that had fewer seating and it was very relaxing...
I wish they had more of a selection of Cabernets...by the glass @ lower price point...The ceviche was excellent...We order mostly vegetables and was very good...My friend ordered a French 75 and it was poorly made...Overall we had a fun evening!!!
I will return soon

Some American restaurants have this quaint custom to serve their wines almost frozen, Absinthe was no exception. I thank our terrific wait person to help remedy that situation who brought me a glass of rose where I could actually smell the aroma and taste it. While the menu seems to get more limited, the food is good - if the kitchen could hold back a tad on sauces. My romaine came doused in dressing and the cod (though very tasty) also swam in sauce(s). A little goes a long way. My dining companion's hamburger was done just right. If we were planning another event, we would go back to Absinthe.
