The place is noisy. $16 for a glass of house wine . We had a bad waiter so that didn't help . The food was good though.

The food was not bad, but the rude hostess and the extremely slow service made for an unenjoyable experience. One hour and forty minutes should be more than enough time for a leisurely meal, but here, we barely had time for a rushed two course meal. I have eaten in this restaurant many times in the past, but I will not be returning.

Have come for cocktails before and really liked it. Their bartenders are outstanding. Had dinner here for the first time and had a nice meal with good service. We both had their burger (excellent) and their onion soup (excellent). Will definitely go back.

1) We a bit disappointed with their menu.
The reason we picked up this restaurant was, we wanted to have "Seared Foie Gras"
shown in their menu by web site(home page). However, it was replaced to "Pork Belly"
in their actual menu there.
2) We also a bit disappointed with their service of serving first order of drinks.
Before the drinks came to the table, a couple of hors d'oeuvres were served on the table.

The brasserie is a couple of blocks from Davies Symphony Hall. It was a perfect location for an early solo dinner after a Sunday matinee concert. The staff was attentive and the food was superb; my dining experience was a pleasure. The cauliflower soup was delicate and full of flavors. The grilled octopus on its bed of black squid-ink risotto was a treat. The Absinthe is a small restaurant, but did not feel crowded, although it was a full house.

Have been to Absinthe about 4 times on Sundays before going to see a play. The food is exceptional and typically different in a good way. This past Sunday a friend and I shared the French toast stuffed with ricotta with rum soaked banana's and the Heirloom tomato grilled cheese sandwich with macadamia pesto. Both were delicious. My friend is vegetarian and there were plenty of options for her to choose. The service has always been excellent. Love the atmosphere and it is just a comfortable place to be with friends and family.

the main strength of Absinthe is location -- it is one block from the symphony, opera & ballet. The food is good but no bargain -- the two of us had four appetizers, a glass of wine, a coffee and a shared desert with tax and tip the was $100. Everything was better than "just ok" but nothing outstanding. We will return.

I've been to Absinthe several times and it never disappoints! I love the french onion soup. The wine list and the cocktails are alway tasting. Definitely great for date night. I also appreciate that I was able to get a dinner reservation at 10pm.

The good:
- The food. I've never had potato-crusted salmon and it was fantastic. Excellent flavor. The ravioli was unique and very tasty. The pot de creme for dessert was great, particularly if you like dark chocolate. Just enough to split for two and not too filling.
- The service. Our server was Shannon and she was very good. Timely, made spot-on recommendations, accommodating to a few special requests and never rushed us.
- The ambiance. Considering how busy this restaurant gets, it still felt relatively intimate and the noise level wasn't too bad.
The bad:
- I can't think of anything.

As a longtime customer, I think Absinthe's ambience remains superb, but the quality of the cooking and service have deteriorated over time. The menu desperately needs some new creative thinking, and the wait staff seems demoralized and sullen. All in all, whoever is running the restaurant these days seem to be phoning it in.

I’ve been there several times past 20+ years to grab dinner prior to opera and/or symphony... Love their French bar food, attentive services by happy people and authentic onion soup, especially. This time, we had octopus dish that was tender, tasdty and authentic.

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile, and finally made it the dinner reservation for mom's birthday. We were extremely impressed! Pricey but well worth it. They made her birthday special with decorating her dessert with happy birthday and a candle. We did not even have to make any special requests. A bit noisy as all the tables were filled on a Friday night. Great ambience, and would be perfect for date night. Service was among the best we ever have experienced. All staff must take great pride in their work, and it shows. Best pork chop I have had in my life! Absinthe made the whole evening unforgettable. Can't wait to return.

I give Absinthe especially high marks for service, both before we arrived (we were nearly a half hour late and one member of our party didn't arrive for another half hour or more), and after. We called when we were already 15 minutes late and the person who answered the phone was wonderful, telling us not to worry, our table would be waiting. When we (finally!) arrived, we were made to feel like special guests. The food was good, although not as good as the last time we had been there. Two members of the party had the octopus, one had the hamburger, and I had the butternut squash ravioli, which is a favorite of mine. Speaking only for myself, it was not the best that I have had. Good, but not outstanding. One of the people who had the octopus was not impressed. Again, good, but not outstanding. The service, however, was excellent, (our server was very attentive and helpful), and the energy in the room was great. Lots of people having lots of fun. We will probably go again.

This was our second dining experience and it was awesome. Melt-in-your mouth pork chop. Raviolis. Octopus. Mornay sauce with appetizer devine. My daughter, a resident of SF, introduced us to Absinthe. I have developed a love of French food and can't wait to return. Service incredible!!!
Oh, my lifelong search for the best French onion soup has ended! Perfect!!!

We wanted to celebrate after an awards ceremony. The ceremony ran overtime but Absinthe graciously seated us even though we were late, and on the sidewalk, too, as was our preference. We ordered steak tartare, the cheese plate, and some bread with our cocktails. The waiter forgot to bring the cheese plate, acknowledged it as his mistake, and gave us the Brie free. A lovely spot and mistake handled as it should have been. Enjoyed it and will return.
