Abigail's Grille & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
We went to Abigails for our anniversary. The wait staff is great! The service was very good. It was Sunday and brunch was being served. It was just so so. The biscuits and gravy were awful, the bit of sausage was deep fried anddried and the biscuit was awful with two spoonfuls of gravy.
Generally, we love Abigails and go there for dinner or lunch but very disappointed in brunch.
The building is interesting. The outside seating is nice, but there is excessive traffic noise from Routes 10 / 202. The wait staff is fine. The choices available from the lunch menu were fairly standard. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Having lunch here is a safe bet – not the best, but not likely to disappoint either.
We have visited Abigail's several times. The food has always been delicious, and our meal this time was also delicious. My wife had the salmon entree and I had the lobster pasta entree. Hmmmm!
I was disappointed however that we were not offered the prix fixe menu. I assumed that perhaps that it was no longer a available. Later in the visit I noticed that the table to the right of us was given the prix fixe menus by our server.
Also, it took forever for our drinks to arrive.
So...Great food, so so service. This was the first time in 5 visits that the service was sub par.
We will visit again.
Notes: Their brunch is fantastic, as is the prix fixe menu. Every meal we have had here has been a home run.
We have dined at Abigail's and other Mill Restaurant Group restaurants on many occasions, and have generally always had good experiences. We chose Abigail's, last night, for a birthday celebration. On our OpenTable reservation, I specifically asked to be seated in the glass-enclosed porch or terrace room, and requested a birthday dessert. When we arrived, we were led to a dark table right outside the kitchen. I mentioned that we had requested the garden or terrace room, and were then taken to one of a few available tables in that area. The restaurant, also, did not offer any kind of birthday dessert. No mention of a birthday at all. It didn't seem worth bringing it up, but I thought it would be nice to surprise our "birthday girl", and was disappointed that nothing was done.
Aside from that, the food and service were very good, as usual. Just a little disappointed in the fact that no attention was paid to the requests I made on our reservation.
Abigail's is a lovely house converted into a lively restaurant years ago. Now owned by the Mill on the River group, Abigails's rivals The Mill on the River flagship restaurant. Outstanding food, plated beautifully, served without a hitch. Waitstaff and kitchen very accommodating for dietary needs. Just a lovely restaurant. Worth making reservations or waiting for a table, mix needed.
Abigail's has a warm and inviting atmosphere that truly pleases your senses with it's comfortable setting. Our server was Billie and she made sure that our food was prepared exactly as we wished and she was attentive to our needs without being intrusive. Our party of four all had clean plates by the end of our meal - a true testament to the quality and flavor of our dinner selections. Looking forward to our next visit!
My wife and I had a gift certificate to use from CT Restaurant association and found this restaurant on their list. Have driven by this place several times but never thought twice of checking out the menu. Needless to say it was excellent. The portions were unbelievable yet inviting. The ambience is excellent and the dining is moderate to upscale. I had the NY Strip and could not even finish the entire 15oz coupled with the sides. My wife loved her Salmon citing it may have been the best she has ever had. The dessert was unreal, a warm chocolote cake topped with a peanut butter gnoche and vanilla ice cream. Needless to say we will be back.
We were seated in the long, large room, the noise level was unbelievable! We couldn't talk, hear each other, it was hard to communicate with the waitress. Wery dissapointing experience. We shouldn't be there together with large and noisy groups of guests when there were tables for two available in smaller rooms more suitable for the occasion.
Took my wife for her birthday. Had requested outside table through Open Table and we were provided with a lovely table on patio. We each ordered cocktails which were made to perfection . They have a price fixe menu Sun to Tues in addition to regular menu. We had the red fish and the chicken off the price fixe and they were both delicious and well presented as was the dessert which came with the meal. Service seemed a little slow but that could have been because our waiter was training a new waitress. Overall no major complaints . We come here often for special occassions and are usually pleased as we were this time
I made a reservation on Open Table and requested outside seating. If its a nice day I highly recommend sitting outside in the patio. When we arrived we were told they do not take reservations for outside seating. However, we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table, we were in luck or our friendly hostess rectified our problem. My husband went with his usual seafood fra diavolo (which is superb) but I opted for something new. I ordered a pear and prosciutto flat bread. It was amazing! The flavors mesh well and paired up with a nice chilled white, I was satisfied. The portion was big enough for dinner and next day lunch. We opted for a chopped salad to share as a starter. Thought the dressing, feta, and egg in the salad did not mesh well. We did not like it. Next time we will stick to our wedge salad or spinach salad, can't go wrong with either. Overall the staff was attentive and accommodating. Sitting outside with good company, good food, and a nice glass of wine; a perfect start to the weekend.
Abigail's is nice enough to be considered fine dining, yet laid back enough to enjoy dinner at the bar in a pair of jeans. My mother is 90, and it's difficult to get her out of the house. But I managed to do so last Thursday and Abigail's was where she wanted to eat. The restaurant is handicapped-accessible and they gave us a table that was not too far from the entrance. The service was great, and she ate better than I've seen her eat in a long time. We will definitely return.
The food was superb and the service was fantastic! We weren't rushed but were attended to promptly whenever we needed something. I had the filet and my wife had the lobster special. Both were perfectly prepared and artistically presented - as was the cheesecake dessert.
A meal at Abigail's never disappoints. The service and food were excellent. We sat in the older section which meant that the noise level was preferable to being in the newer section. We could hear a large party in the new section (nearest Route 10). All of us have been to Abigail's a number of times so we knew that we did not want to sit in the new section as it's almost impossible to hear the wait staff or those sitting across the table from you.
We had a most enjoyable evening.
A group of friends and I enjoyed a wonderful Fixed Price Meal on the outside terrace. The choice of salads and entrees was fairly extensive, the food was excellent, and the happy hour wine prices were a nice surprise. Service was excellent. We'll definitely be going back!
Our waitress was very poor, we felt she did not deserve any tip whatever but we did leave a 15% courtesy tip. The following is why we felt this way
-never introduced herself
-when we asked for a children menu - she replied there was none and she would tell us what they had later. (??)
-there were no bread plates delivered to our table
-when drinks were delivered, one person asked for coffee, but did not receive her creamer until dinner was served, even though we asked her to bring it to us a couple times
-When our dinners arrived, one of the entrees was missing. We all sat there without beginning our meals as a courtesy to the person waiting. no plate arrived. We waited 5-10 minutes before the waitress returned with the meal and we began to eat. When she returned, she told us that the men delivering our dinners asked who had the dish and nobody replied. Which was an absolute lie. Those two people had no more plates in hand to be delivered!! She had a lot of nerve, how about an apology that we had to wait and our food was now cold.
-After dinner, 2 more coffees were ordered, I was one of them. The waitress asked if I wanted cream - I said yes. She then went over to the other person who had previously ordered coffee - who was the other person who at this time ordered a second cup. The waitress took her creamer cup and asked me if what was left in her cup was enough. Totally leaving the other person with no cream again. Then we had to ask a couple more times for creamer.
This service was in no way conducive to the price we paid for our meals. I never mind paying top dollar when visiting a restaurant, but when paying on the higher end I do expect great food, great service with a great atmosphere.
We should of left this person 0 tip.
Overall we were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant.
The only thing making it up for it was the food, it was very good.
I would go back again. The food was amazing. The service for being greeted when we sat at our table and getting a drink was slow. Our appetizer came out before our drinks. I don't like being served "out of order". We also had to ask for a wine/drink list. Being that the name includes wine bar I figured the list would already be at the table or offered to us.
We have dined at Abigail's often. The restaurant has a wonderful warm ambience. The upstairs bar is usually lively with tables for a more casual meal.
We went to Abigail's for Mother's Day; I was disappointed that they were not serving a brunch (which I love there), instead they were serving dinner. I ordered one of the specials for Mother's Day, the Prime Rib. The meat was very flavorful, yet chewy. Since I hadn't had that kind of meal in a while, I enjoyed it despite the chewyness. The dessert (death by chocolate) was outstanding, as were the other desserts our group had.
All in all Abigail's rarely disappoints. It is a wonderful place to sit outside when the weather permits. The dining room is comfortable and warm, the upstairs bar is always lively. I definitely recommend it!
Excellent food and service; our waitress was very helpful and we weren't rushed. We had a "semi-private" table which helped keep the noise (which seemed rather loud in the main dining area) at a level that did not distract from our enjoyment. My Mom & Sister said that it was one of the best meals they'd had. Given that it was Saturday evening on Mother's Day weekend I think you did a superb job!
Great food, good service, but, 2 tables you do want to be seated at, one that is almost in the kitchen, between bar and grill, the other in dinning room far right corner, a table that seats 2 near exit, both tables put there for added seating, but terrible, last 2 visits, restaurant was crowded and we manage to end up in those locations. No need for those tables to be there.
We have eaten here on multiple occasions and the food is always well prepared.
The service is attentive and accommodating. The cheese plate is always delightful. I would stick with the lamb, fish or beef dishes which are always prepared wonderfully. The pasta dishes are not as good. The duck is not special. My only complaint about this restaurant is the noise. If you are in the back room it is always a very noisy experience.
