Aberdeen Barn - Charlottesville Ratings and Reviews
Although the service was excellent, we were a bit disappointed in the food, especially my medium-rare ribeye. Although it was tasty and relatively tender, it was over cooked. I ordered medium rare and after a few bites I took out my phone to get a better look at the done-ness in the darkened restaurant. It was barely medium. The salads were good, and the blue cheese butter on my steak was great. However, having the steak not cooked to my specification is a restaurant that claims to specialize in good steaks certainly lessened the value to me. I didn't complain about the steak because by the time I lit up the steak to see how it had been cooked, I had consumed a fair amount of it and it would not have been fair to ask them to replace it at that point. That's on me, but the next time we are in the area, we will likely not go back. It's a shame, because it has all the appearances of a good eatery except for the cooking-to-order part.
Third time this year we have eaten here. Tonight our waiter continually served through us, splashing us with water and beverages including dropping soda across my wife’s plate. Food was far below previous experiences. Seafood was over cooked and cool when served. Steaks were less flavorful then usual.
After spending $300 for dinner, will be hard pressed to return for some time.
Went for wife’s bday. She had the prime rib which was excellent. She said it was the best piece of prime rib she has ever had. I tasted it and agree; awesome. There was enough left over to take home and have the next day and it just as good! I had the chicken which was overcooked and on the dry side. I would expect that they would take the same care preparing a less expensive meal as the beef. That’s why I can only give it 4 stars. Service was just the right amount of attentive; not too intrusive but there when you needed something. The place is a bit dated, definitely old school, but showing it’s age a bit too much especially considering the prices they charge. Overall a good experience and we would recommend it for a special occasion. Get the prime rib!!
This was my first visit and I was impressed. The service was first rate but the main reason I would recommend this restaurant to friends was the quality of the food. My wife ordered thick cut prime rib and I had a demonic steak. All our food was exactly as ordered and we have not had better food anywhere else, including Ruth's Chris. I am already anticipating a return trip.
I was disappointed to say the least. There was a lot of advertising about Aberdeen Barn as THE steak in Charlottesville. Possibly in the past, but not now. Although the staff tries hard, the feeling overall is one of a very tired restaurant. Went to Texas Roadhouse the next night (tried not to but limited on time) and had a much better filet for $17 than Aberdeen’s “Delmonico” steak for $40. Premade salad in a worn (think “tired”) wooden bowl did not help. I would not go back.
Had been recommended by a friend from work. The decor was very dated. I felt the menu probably hasn't change for a long time. We felt very over dressed compare to some other patrons. Saw some people in tee shirts. Our waiter was friendly but got my order wrong. I wanted no salad. He offered a side of broccoli instead. I end up with a salad and the broccoli instead of my baked potato. My steak was cooked perfectly. My wife's dinner was as ordered. In the end our dinner was okay but I wouldn't go back. There are too many better place downtown.
Granted this is a steak restaurant and we ate salmon which was well done and poor quality, broccoli sent back and still raw, rolls stale, service too fast - more like fast food service. I dined alone to a bill of $55 and should have gone to another restaurant.
Food was excellent as usual and the waiter we had was the best we have had anywhere in a while. Was very helpful and kept us up on drinks, extra condiments. Put candles on my husbands birthday pie. Had it wrapped up and waiting up front when we left. He made our surprise party for my husband wonderful! Good personality, friendly and outgoing.
Food was great. Sat in the restaurant area and it was perfectly lit. Great ambiance in the dining area. Nice light jazz music in the background. Bar area looked great and I would go back to sit on that side. Service was great, water glass is always filled and we didn't feel like we waited long for anything. Would certainly go back for another meal. Chocolate ganache was amazing.
From the time we entered the door, the service was exquisite!! Seated immediately and a server arrived immediately with iced water and another followed with rolls. Our server was right behind them. He was friendly and answered the questions we had. It seemed immediately he was back with our salad and a Lazy Susan with three types of salad dressing. We enjoyed our salads at our own pace and our salad bowls were whisked away. In just the blink of an eye our prime rib appeared followed immediately with our baked potato. The potato was accompanied with a Lazy Susan containing real bacon bits and sour cream. There was a server constantly filling water glasses and removing dishes. Since it was my husband's birthday, Jim, our server, arrived with a piece of chocolate cake with a candle. We were sent on our way with extra prime rib bones for our dogs! We DEFINITELY will go again. We hadn't been there for awhile and it was nice to see that it still maintained the high standards we had experienced before! Would definitely recommend to our friends!
The food while costly seemed extremely cheap. The salmon and steak we were served were completely overdone, the salads from a bag, and the starter of sesame breadsticks and cheese whiz left a lot lacking.
Overall, terrible food for an exorbitant price made me rate it a 1.
Strong 4 1/2, very good. Old style steakhouse! Large portions and lots of bread etc. We had the prime rib which was cooked perfectly, scallops (over cooked) and the appetizer turned into an entree (as suggested by the waiter) of bbq shrimp. Salads were good. Left full and happy.
