A Charlottesville mainstay. Excellent steaks and prime rib are favorites. The bar is solid and wines are good. A good choice.
My sons and I passed by the Aberdeen Barn on our way to our hotel, and I remembered it was the last place I ate dinner with my parents when I attended the University of Virginia 25 years ago. I suggested we try for my son's 17th birthday. It was a hit! We enjoyed the steaks, cooked to perfection, and the waiter anticipated our needs throughout the meal. It was a memorable meal! We cannot wait to return!
I went in expecting something special.
My Filet was mushy on the inside and burned on the outside.
Not good. Even if they had given it to me it wouldn't have been worth it.
The ambiance? DARK.... what lights are there, are glare bombs.
Can't see the menu for the dark, can't see the wait staff for the glare behind them.
Wait staff was good.
The food lacked flavor for the price paid. The waitstaff seemed rushed and not very attentive. Disappointed with the overall experience.
A friend of mine had a "hankering" for a good steak and I immediately thought of Aberdeen Barn!!! It was a great choice, the prime rib was excellent and cooked to perfection!
Outstanding food and very reasonable prices, the prime rib was perfect as were the libations. Ask for Jim, a very friendly and helpful server who met every request with a timely, perfect response, always at the ready without being intrusive. The meal opened with pretzel sticks and an outstanding homemade beer cheese and the salads were spot on in size with delectable homemade dressings. Steaks and prime rib perfectly prepared with baked taters and fixins. While the dessert menu looked marvelous, our tummies were so full that eating one was impossible. This a real local gem and will be a regular stop on future trips to Charlottesville.
It was terrific, from the hostess to the bartender to the table service.
Our lamb chops were very good, and our filet was very good. I asked the server about a cheaper 6 oz. steak on the menu but he said non existed. He was very good and I would go back.
Great food but the decoration, lighting and furniture are awful. My chair was old, lumpy and so uncomfortable. II like the food but this place is in dire need of updating.
Several of my friends ordered the filet and one of them was served the butt end of the tenderloin which was not easy to cut and hard to chew. Our server was excellent .
Unfortunately I was disappointed with the steaks. For the price it wasn't anything special and you need to like charcoal taste. After we sent a steak back because it tasted burnt (cooked medium rare) they did offer to cook one under the broiler which did turn out better. I know it has been around for a long time and we were looking forward to going, but next time I will find another steak house. It may have just been a off night.
Like stepping back in time—in a good way. Delicious prime rib.
Very disappointing. Two of us took boss to dinner, remembering that this had once been a "go to" place for a business dinner. We each had NY strips (medium rare), baked potatoes, a salad and spinach soufflé. The waiter failed to bring condiments for the potatoes; until reminded; he never bought the soufflé, even after two reminders; the salad appeared to consist of only iceberg style lettuce (waiter did offer pepper); Two of us ordered what use to be a great dessert: bourbon pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream. Additionally, one person had two martinis, one had one beer and a glass of red wine; and one had one glass of red wine. Here's the rub (no pun intended): NY strips were each ordered medium rare - they came closer to medium and were dry to our taste. The pie dessert crusts was very dry. And, we never got the spinach soufflé. The total bill was outrageously expensive for the quality of the beef and pies, and without the soufflés. We paid with two gift certificates, which included an undeserved tip for a total of $200.00. For value and services received, we will take our future business dinners elsewhere. Very disappointing experience!
I am 65 years old, and started going to the Charlottesville Aberdeen Barn when I was 15 years old. I left Charlottesville for about 30 years and have recently relocated back to Charlottesville. The Barn is everything I remembered it being and wouldn’t change a thing. Food was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Great bar and bartender. Food was great and the service was excellent.
We enjoyed the delicious prime rib and the excellent and friendly service. Serving sizes are very large and condiments and complimentary appetizers a bit too large for a table for two. A very generous attitude is felt while dining here.
If I ever need to be in Charlottesville again, I'll definitely revisit. The prime rib was great. My wife said the fillet was great too. Our server was the best.
The food and service was great. My only suggestion would to have more light in the dining area. It was so dark that could not see to read the menu and had to hold it up against the candle on the table to see.
When we walked in the front door it seemed a bit dark and old. The host picked lettuce from a bowl with her bare hands and placed it on what looked like a customers plate, ewww. The atmosphere just seemed stale and very old, not fresh at all. Our waiter did a very good job and was very friendly. Having eaten at Ruth's Chris and paid over a hundred dollars for a meal I was not impressed. The meal was overpriced for the value. The steak was good, just not that good.
This is a very nice and well decorated place who has great food, excellent service and a fair price.
One of our favorite places to eat in Charlottesville. Best Prime Rib dinners in the state. Staff is always great because they have all been there for years.
The food was good but the deep fried lobster tail appetizer was spectacular Our waiter was excellent and the service was great. A little pricey, but worth the stop.
Wonderful experience as always !!!!!! Best prime rib in the state!
By far the best meal in Charlottesville I personally recommend the crab cakes
Was on a First Date, and was stood up. The Hostess and Server were Great. Food was awesome, some noise from the waitress station and the decor needs to be updated, there was red tape on the booth upholstery that I choose. I made the best of it, I usually do not eat at high-end restaurants definitely worth the 3-hour drive. Had Regular cut Prime with Idaho baked potato and garden salad. The lesson I learned if a person is unsure the first date is going to work out make it worth your while and choose a great place to eat that way the disappointment won't matter as much. Thanks.
Good service and food. Priced a little high
The service was pleasant and very good! Food very delicious!
Great us usually! Will be back soon. Favorite place in Charlottesville
Best restaurant in Charlottesville. Food is excellent, service is excellent and atmosphere is friendly and inviting.
The food was wonderful, as always. We had escargots as an appetizer and followed it with the prime rib. Everything was delicious. Our server was very attentive and helpful. We were there celebrating a birthday, and got a delicious piece of cake to end the meal. The only reason I rated the service 3/5 stars was because the server made a very rude comment at the end, as we were getting ready to leave, which ruined the entire evening.
Very good! Would definitely go back again especially for the clams casino, lamb chops were good too!
Wonderful prime rib and service. Made for a great birthday dinner
We live an hour away from the Aberdeen Barn, and there are many fine restaurants between Harrisonburg and Charlottesville. However, enjoying the best prime rib we can find on our anniversary has become a tradition for us.
Service was lacking. Scallops poorly done. Cocktail less than okay. Mortons prices for Sizzler Quality experience.
Awesome service and atmosphere and most excellent prime rib
The atmosphere was very dated. Steaks were good, not great. Did not seem like a 4.5 star experience to us.
The food was good. Very traditional menu and a pleasant (also traditional) ambiance. Service was nothing special. I had told them it was my hauband’s birthday and there was no acknowledgement. It was pricey considering the entire experience. I know it has been voted a great place to go on a special occasion, but that was not our experience.
The prime rib and key lime pie were amazing! I wish there were better appetizer options. I’ve had the lamb before and although good, not worth the price. The service is excellent.
Everthing was good but for the fact they over cooked my husband New York strip. He sent it back and we left. Prime rib was awesome!! Oysters were very small in Rockefeller
The beef was amazing..and the house-made salad dressings were excellent. The sides however, were very disappointing, even served cold.
