Abel Brown Ratings and Reviews
Great meal. Creative, well executed menu. We had oysters and two specials (roast duck breast w/ duck confit and roasted acorn squash and lamb shank w/ merguez sausage, faro, and parsnip puree), all of which were perfectly prepared and delicious. All staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and they were helpful in steering us around some tricky food allergies. Highly recommended.
Food was fantastic - multiple people felt it was the best they have ever had prepared - ever. Oysters were superb! Service was great and loved the decor and ambiance. Only minor complaint was that booths were a little tight but we are not the smallest of people. Great night!
Our waitress was outstanding. She recited all the specials and their ingredients and preparation. Four of us were dining and everyone loved their meal. My only complaint was that the acoustics were terrible. The noise level was LOUD! It was hard at times to carry on a conversation. But we would go there again because the food was innovative and delicious.
Abel Brown was a decent place for a business meal. Not too noisy and although small it had that upscale feel. Most at the table liked their food. Fresh oysters good but over priced. Salads fresh and the Cesar was authentic with anchovy on top. I had the pork chop and it was cooked medium to the chef’s liking however it had a lot of sinew in it and most of it was not edible. I would not recommend this choice. The dinners all looked good but the guests said “nothing spectacular”. Drink menu was very good and good wine choices by the bottle and glass. This was the second time I was there and it was just mediocre. I would go back for drinks and maybe to give them another chance.
Florida and Ohio residents meet in Augusta for business. Choose Abel Brown for a casual dinner to discuss business and personal interests. The food was excellent; top notch from top to bottom without being pretentious. Oyster selection one of the best in the South. Service was fine; nothing wrong but nothing exceptional.
On the critical analysis scale, I would point out that it is a bit pricey (2 beers apiece and a dozen oysters shared and our meals was $150 including tip) and the noise level is fairly high---this is not a spot for quiet romance, for example.
I would definitely return and I will recommend. A very good meal.
We had a great first visit here for our anniversary. The service was above expectations and the food was great! Oyster menu is a must try and the entrees are fantastic! We even got a free dessert for our special occasion that was amazing as well! Can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely fabulous! I am thrilled to find this gem as I am oyster (and fish) crazy. Really pretty room, amazingly quiet noise level but very lively. The service was super and the waiter really knew his oysters. The wine selection was quite nice. I can't wait to go back. I wish it was closer though...a 50 minute commute from Aiken, SC.
This was the second time we have been to Abel Brown. The food is great and the service is great, but BEWARE OF THEIR EXTREMELY STRANGE NAPKINS! If you are wearing dark clothing you will be covered with white lint, and I mean REALLY COVERED! It was so bad that the server had to take me to the ladies room with a lint roller. Apparently the chef likes them and will not get rid of them, even though customers complain.
The first time we went I also got covered with lint, but it was months before and I forgot to be on my guard this time! I think it is a nasty thing to knowingly do to your customers who make an effort to dress up and look nice in your restaurant, and it certainly put a dampener on our evening out.
Seems a shame for the place to be ruined for us for such a stupid reason. We will give it one more try on our next visit to Augusta, but if those stupid linty napkins are still there next time I think we will give it a miss from now on. Seems like the chef thinks more of his napkins than he does of his customers.
Our first visit to A&B which was recommended to us by a friend....particularly for the oysters. We were NOT disappointed. Oysters were wonderful; beet salad was spectacular, and my husband - both EXCEPTIONALLY picky about his beef, AND even MORE hesitant about ordering beef in a fairly seafood-forward restaurant - was actually wow'ed by the smoked ribeye ! Service was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly, didn't rush us. We had a lovely evening. Would highly recommend.
Food was great! I ordered the crab cake appetizer, oyster rockefeller, broiled oysters, raw oysters, shrimp and grits and pecan wood smoked ribeye. All were delicious and worth the price. I also had the wedge salad and it was perfect! Our server was great and explained the food perfectly.
Friendly servers with laid back presence, oyster menu is very good with several varieties. Our large group (14) strained both server staff and kitchen staff. Having said that, the entrees were excellent when they were eventually served. We'll definitely be back and Several of our guests agreed they had found another 'great' dinner destination.
We came for our 9th anniversary. The food was AMAZING!!!!!! Blew Frog Hollow out of the Universe. Our server-I can't remember his name--started with a D--he was great! Attentive, knew the menu well. I would recommend this venue. The only negative: the young woman at the front. She needs to be trained to be more professional in person and on the phone. Her decorum is despicable and nearly compelled us to leave!! So glad we did not! How many other people has she turned away?
We were greeted by very friendly wait staff when we arrived. We were told there had just been a watermain leaked before they opened up and there was no availability of restrooms or certain menu items that involved water. No problem! We sat at bar and worked our way through oysters and several appetizers. Oysters were delicious and the smoked salmon patte appetizer was superb! Wines offered as happy hour choices, red and white, were great and not your usual happy hour wine. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting it again.
We frequent Abel Brown at least weekly and are never disappointed. Whether we're in the mood for heavy appetizers or a full meal the varied menu and specials always offer a varied and delicious menu. Tonight we tried the bacon wrapped monkfish and the beef cheeks. Once again, everything was perfect. The staff is always friendly and attentive and we feel we are part of the family. If you've never tried this Augusta gem do yourself a favor and if you've not enjoyed their hospitality in a while, give them a try again. You will not be sorry!!!
