Abe Fisher in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia serves up a sophisticated take on Jewish cuisine in a chic and handsome interior.
The menu at Abe Fisher includes classics with a twist, like chicken liver mousse, borscht tartare, broccoli kugel, corned pork belly Reuben, Hungarian duck and veal schnitzel tacos. You can also get family-sized portions for certain items like Montreal smoked short ribs with homemade rye bread and mustard. For dessert at Abe Fisher, choose from pumpkin mousse, chocolate babka or the bacon and egg cream. There's also a full bar and many coffee drinks that you can enjoy.
Friday - Saturday: 5:00pm - 11:00pm
Always special. Fabulous food and even better service
I always liked Abe Fisher, but this was the first time I went for the short-ribs meal. I am always happy to select jewels from the menu myself, but my companions did not want to make any choices (beyond saying “short ribs” :-).
I’m glad they steered me that way. Not only are the ribs (and accoutrements) excellent, but I also got to experience dishes I don’t normally order. And they were just great! Sweet potatoes with Boursin do not call my name from the menu page, but what a great dish! Schnitzel taco was magically moist (I always pictured it as dry and boring). The special labneh treat (with smoked fish and pickled vegetables) taste so much better than it sounds. Oh yeah, and the wine that comes with the short ribs (and is unfortunately not available otherwise) - it is awesome!
Thanks guys - we had a great meal and experience.
I was there the other night with my Fiancee and a friend from Israel. The service and food overall was fantastic. It's in center city, so you'll be paying extra for that alone so it can get a little pricey.
We all just thought it was odd when the servers told us the salami was kosher, but cooked in the same kitchen as bacon that's on the menu. The bacon kind of negates a kosher kitchen.
Don't let that change your mind about going there. The food was excellent and all the serves were able to answer any questions about the menu. I look forward to going there again in the near future.
Excellent food and service.
Outstanding interpretations of deli classics in a well-designed space.
This is a standard go-to for us when we visit Philly. Always, always delicious; the service is extraordinary every time. This time we went before the Philly Symphony, and they let us sit for longer than we likely should have: they were so nice about it. Cannot recommend it (and the whole restaurant group) enough.
Assuredly my favorite meal in Philadelphia this last trip -- and on par with Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the trip before.
The egg cream as well as the latkes were standouts. A few dishes were very good (the chicken for example) but did not resonate beyond what might be found elsewhere. The only miss I would say would be inclusion, however fitting thematically, of the boiled egg in the dish that's name does not come to mind. In a tasting menu, and a restaurant of this caliber, I'm not sure anyone should be asked to bear down on a boiled egg.
But these are quibbles. The cocktails were excellent, the service could not have been better, and a few of the dishes were unforgettable. I've already recommended the restaurant to one person heading to Philadelphia for New Years, and I hope to go back myself one day soon.
Awesome service. Food was not worth the price. Paid $70/person for a bland, flavorless rib that they’re “famous” for. Would’ve gotten the same from a deli.
I’ve been several times, converting people to try beef tongue and have veal schnitzel tacos. Wine list is outstanding in how funky and interesting it can be-worth your time!
Delicious food, wonderful service
Honestly every morsel we ate was completely delicious! And the service is always warm, inviting, and expedient. Love this place so much! Bravo:)
Hanukkah! Everything was amazing!
Had the Montreal smoked bbq. Was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable! People were so welcoming and polite. Would recommend!!!
Always great, creative and delicious food. Great cocktails and good beer selection, having some beers on tap welcome and perhaps new (may have been all bottles previously).
Very good. Food was delicious and service was excellent!
I had been told by many trusted sources that Abe Fisher was a must. They were right! Creative Jewish overtones with an innovative approach and culinary excellence. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I will return.
Everything was perfect from start to finish. A group of 4 visited on a busy Saturday night at 8pm. We had 12 perfectly cooked dishes which were shared. The servers were very knowledgeable and timed our courses perfectly. The Pinot noir was amazing as well.
Service was very good. Food was interesting and cooked and presented well. The Black Pearl cocktail was awesome!
Great food and the service was exceptional! Friendly waitstaff.
Excellent food, attentive service. Way too loud to speak at our table on a Monday night
Lovely meal. The selections are unique and special. The staff were all alternative and helpful without hovering or makung us feel rushed
We were visiting from Chicago and highly impressed by Abe Fisher. The menu was really interesting and incredibly well done. All the staff were smart and on top of it. One of the best meals any of us have had in a while.
We used the tasting menu and were delighted with the variety and unusualness of the food and we were continually surprised. Service was excellent. We'll be back.
Jewish Tapas. The three of us shared many small plates as a pre-theater dinner. The bluefish croquettes, the chicken liver mousse, the sweet potato, and the veal tacos were all memorable. One friend found a Chilean red wine, which was his favorite, and regaled us of stories of his trips to Chile. The music, after a request to turn it down, was softened, but it could be quieter still. This is my favorite center city restaurant, even without having the Montreal short ribs, for which this restaurant is known.
The entire dining experience from the moment we arrived was exceptionally outstanding. The food was truly perfection and the staff equally as good.
Delicious and unique, with kind and generous service. Was perfect for a birthday dinner in Philly!
Most of the food was extremely salty. There were multiple times when we waited quite a few minutes for a server to show up and we were never sure who was actually waiting on our table, as we had at least 3 different people that we spoke with throughout our meal. Finally, no idea why the music was so loud when it's already a very small space with lots of people and hard surfaces. It just makes it harder for everyone, guests and servers included, to hear anyone else.
Fantastic meal from start to finish. Everything was creative and cooked to perfection. The chicken liver mousse was smooth paired great with the rye bread and the sweet potatoes were a surprising favorite. I loved it all!
As always, the food, service, and drinks were amazing. We can’t get enough of Abe Fisher. We’ve yet to get anything but the Montreal Shortribs cause the whole tasting menu is excellent. We will definitely be back and hopefully we’ll even try something besides the shortribs. I wouldn’t hold your breath though.
I heard of this place because one of the chefs went on z100 and the way they talked about the food made me want to try it. Food was great and definitely worth the trip. It made a perfect spot for my anniversary. Place is small though so I would recommend making a reservation.
Definitely worth it to go all out and get the tasting menu. It’s pricey, so definitely for an occasion and not just a regular old night but the food and service were outstanding. One of the best meals we have had. Montreal style short ribs with the accompanying bread and sauces was amazing and making my mouth water now just thinking about it.
Our server was incredibly accommodating. We will definitely return.
Tasty food and good service but overpriced for portion sizes.
Fantastic service and a simple and delicious menu. Try some of their specialty cocktails... delicious!
The food was great but the music (or loud sounds) was inappropriate. I don't want to hear shrills and shreiks when trying to have a relaxing dinner with my family visiting from out of town. I had to request that the volume be adjusted twice during our meal. Why was the volume turned up after our request? than The shrills and shrieks from one of the songs sounded like nails on a chalkboard. I consider ambiance as important as the food when considering a return visit. The music selection belongs in a nightclub, not an expensive restaurant. We will think twice about returning to Abe Fisher
My fiancée Katie and I had our engagement-day celebration dinner at Abe Fisher. When I made the reservation, I’d been thinking about which restaurant we’d been to over the course of our relationship that really stuck out. Abe Fisher sprung to mind immediately. And I have to say, the way we were treated on our special day by all the Abe Fisher staff was unparalleled. We were welcomed, given complementary champagne, and generally treated exceptionally. Best of all, the overall experience at Abe Fisher made Katie happy, and that meant the world to me. Thank you, Abe Fisher, you are forever part of our story, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The food is great and creative. It is more of a tapas selection and meant for sharing. Even though they are small plates you won’t leave hungry. My guest and I each had the three plate selection. As far as the service it was somewhat brisk. The waitstaff is very attentive but most times I barely got my fork out of mouth and my plate was whisked away while my guest was still eating. And then your table is washed, 3 times. I understand the need to turn tables over but this came across as rude and aggressive.
Amazing food. Exceptional service. Couldn’t have asked for a more memorable and delightful evening.
Great food and service.
