The menu at Abe Fisher includes classics with a twist, like chicken liver mousse, borscht tartare, cholent pot pie, Hungarian duck and veal schnitzel tacos. You can also get family-sized portions for certain items like Montreal smoked short ribs with homemade rye bread and mustard. For dessert at Abe Fisher, choose from an almond cake, apple tart, or the bacon and egg cream. There is also a full bar and a wide selection of amari.
Amazing food, awesome service!
Didn’t care for the menu. Portions were mall
Everything was wonderful. The food is very inventive and there was so much of it! We don’t eat meat but there was a lot that we could - and did - eat on the menu.
Delicious food and drinks. Our server made great recommendations and everything was fantastic. Come hungry.
Novel take on traditional German-Jewish deli food. Very creative & fun, but pricey.
You really have to pay attention to the food, which I like to do. Great bar, small place, but nice ambiance.
This was such an amazing dinner. First of all, someone from the restaurant staff reached out to me beforehand asking if we were celebrating something specific. When I told them it was a birthday, they asked for the name of the person celebrating. We showed up to the restaurant and they had printed special menus for our table that said Happy Birthday (name), and provided us each a glass of complimentary champagne.
It was so thoughtful, and made the experience one that we will never forget! The food was amazing, the staff was great, and the experience was great. 10/10!
Absolutely incredible. The food was better than I could ever imagine and the our did a great job of celebrating a birthday while also paying excellent attention to allergies and serving versions of the dishes that took everyone's preferences into account. I will definitely be back!
STELLAR. No two ways about it. Crudo. Outrageous. Sweet potatoes are the kind of fish you ask for before you go to the electric chair. And the friggin shortrib!!!!! Oh my word.
Great food and attentive service definitely recommend
Abe Fisher always makes my husband’s birthday such a great experience. Emir was the best waiter and the whole night was perfect. The short ribs are out of this world!
Amazing. Service, food, drinks, atmosphere. We’ll be back
Fantastic service and delicious food, we highly recommend the prixe fix! Lots of great dishes to pick from and you’ll leave full and happy! Loved the cocktails and the amaro sour is a must with dessert 👌🏻 will definitely return next time we’re back in philly!
Absolutely fantastic meal. The Chef's tasting was a great value and the pastrami short rib was incredible.
Great menu, great happy hour - all about the creative food and the wine list is not to be missed!
My wife and are I are big foodies. We both work in the biz, and tend to dine out fairly often. We have a long list of restaurants ranging from Michelin Star recipients all the way down to the delco word-of-mouth deli. Abe Fisher has been on our list for a long time and we decided to finally try it out for restaurant week. We were warmly greeted by the manager at the host stand and sat immediately at a nice table. The restaurant was full so the timing there was great. We were instantly greeted and explained how the RW menu worked. Ambiance was decent, music at a good level, lighting was perfect. The swarmed service really worked and never was confusing. My wife's cocktail was inventive and cool. Courses were timed nicely, we were given proper mise en place. Unfortunately, the food missed the mark significantly on every course. The flavors, textures, balance, and presentation just did not live up to the hype. I could go into more significant detail but i will give credit where it is due. The quark panna cotta was one of the best desserts I've had in recent memory. The dishes seemed really cool, and fusion-y and well thought out on paper, they just didn't deliver.
The food was phenomenal as well as the service. I arrived 5 minutes early and had to wait for my table until the actual time of my reservation but once I was seated the service was great. The food was delicious and had a great appearance. Overall, I really enjoyed my evening.
Very good service and amazing food. Everything was perfectly executed with amazing flavor. Will be back
We went during restaurant week and did the restaurant week menu. The breads and spreads were ridiculously good, so that was a hard act to follow. We had the bluefish and sweet potato appetizers, which were good but not great. I had the salmon, which was excellent, and some sort of pear-almond tart for dessert (which was phenomenal). Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt.
The restaurant’s food was as impressive as their ambiance! Would definitely go back
Great service and food.
First time trying for Restaurant week. Very nice experience with great service.
Had a terrific meal at Abe Fisher- fantastic food and good service. The restaurant is very comfortable and even with a full dining room you could easily carry on a conversation. Loved the breads and spreads and the potato latkes were really delicious the dill sour cream and the roasted apple jam added the right amount of sweetness. The staff was very nice and accommodating regarding food allergies. The only minor quibble was our waiter seemed somewhat untrained- had some issue with taking drink orders and forgot to put them in. The excellent kitchen runners made up for him and we were well taken care of overall.
The service was only slightly above average. The food was very good but not excellent. The space was fairly small and compact. The table seemed far away from the table so I was crunched over most of the time.
Everything was absolutely amazing. Better than anticipated. Cannot wait to make another trip to Philly
We ordered the prix fix with the wine pairings , server was excellent , knowledgeable and well versed on the menu and pairings , the spreads came out first , all perfectly prepared , a few minutes later the pickled mackerel then the kale salad immediately , the courses were brought out too quickly and they literally overwhelmed the table and the wines were left to catch up , we asked the server
To slow down and he was very attentive and allowed us to enjoy each course before plating the main course , the Hungarian duck , all perfectly prepared and plated , the desserts were equally well prepared , the food was authentic , unique and our only commentary was that here was far too much kosher salt used in food particularly the kale salad . The service was outstanding , always an outstanding experience
The food was absolutely out of this world! Everyone should experience this place!
NYE dinner was incredible
Great service. Good food with layered complex flavors. A real treat. The food experience is bigger than the ambiance, but overall a pleasant night out.
After reading many excellent reviews, my wife and I were really looking forward to our dinner at Abe Fisher, but unfortunately the whole experience really fell flat. First, the style of service here is odd. Although we were greeted by one server, that server was not very attentive and wasn’t often around, so it felt like we were constantly dealing with a different staff member each time we needed something, and no one was really keeping tabs on us in any consistent way. It was very disjointed. As far as food, we knew we wanted to try the Montreal style short ribs (which were excellent), which meant we had to do the chef’s tasting menu. I found it odd that even though this menu came with all the same things as the cheaper prix fixe menu, which allows you to choose each course yourself, we were told we couldn’t choose our own starters or dessert - it was chef’s choice only. We were initially ok with this, since the server also led us to believe we’d be getting extra courses and a nice sampling of the menu, when in reality, all we were given were the same breads and spreads, 2 starters, and 2 desserts as the cheaper prix fixe menu, but without any input from us. The two starters we were given were the salmon tartare and the sweet potatoes, neither of which really seems like a great way to showcase the ‘modern Jewish cuisine’ of the restaurant. These dishes felt like things we could get anywhere. Similarly, it seemed stupid that we couldn’t just tell them which two desserts we wanted, which led to us getting two we weren’t really interested in, and not having olive oil cake we were looking forward to trying. The breads and spreads were ok, but not memorable, and the small amount of bread given was ridiculous in comparison to the large portions of the spreads. When we asked for extra bread, it was a long process to get more. Despite much of the food being pretty good, especially the short ribs, the rest was unremarkable and service was too mediocre to want to return.
Great tasting menu and friendly staff
Excellent flavor and interesting and distinctive dishes it would be hard to find anywhere else. Highly recommend!
Really great take on classic Jewish food. I loved the brisket, and the breads and spreads are a must.
This place is always phenomenal. So flavorful and everything is good. One of the most underrated restaurants in the city.
This place is pretty amazing...Not only was the food we ordered amazing, but there were small, thoughtful bites in between (amuse bouchée-ish bites) that were a delight.
Date night out with my wife. Such interesting, creative and mouthwatering take on Eastern European Jewish themed food. We had the Montreal Short Rib and the Duck three wats. Short rib was so tender it melted off of the fork. All three duck dishes were delicious in addition to the house made pretzel bao buns.
Can’t wait to return!
Amazing food and ambiance. Went there on a whim and loved everything we had. Really good food and drinks
Abe Fisher is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I had done a web search for Hungarian restaurants on Yelp for the Philadelphia area. Abe Fisher came up at the top because the place serves a dish called "Hungarian Duck". Abe Fisher isn't Hungarian, but Israeli. To try the Hungarian Duck, one needs to be in a party of at least two people. The server said they would allow me to order the Montreal Style Smoke Short Ribs Tasting Menu, which was $66, even though I was by myself. My server advised me to let the chef pick what to bring out and I was asked if I had any food allergies or aversions. The food I got was enough for leftovers for the next day. I got breads and spreads (house made rye, challah, sour cream and onion chips, chicken liver mousse, roasted pepper cream cheese, everything bagel butter, and borscht tartare); sweet potato; smoked salmon tartare (a bonus the kitchen included); the short ribs; and bacon and egg cream (amazing dessert with lovely textures of the bacon in the cream). For drinks, I had three non-alcoholic ones and they were all memorable-- Salgam Showdown (guava, fermented black carrot, chili, mint), Sage Meditation (sage, white orchid root, tonic, lime), and Truly Spicy Water (sour cherry, jalapeno, soda). Several people waited on me and they each seemed to be my personal server. Allison was my main server and she was outstanding in making sure I was happy. The next time I come to Philly, I'll ask if I can get the Hungarian Duck Tasting Menu even if I'm by myself -- I'd be willing to pay any extra fee. There hasn't been any other dining experiences that I've had similar to that at Abe Fisher -- maybe Rendezvous in Central Square in Cambridge many years ago, but that was a modern French restaurant. I highly recommend Abe Fisher. I sat next to a lovely couple who told me they live near Rittenhouse Square. They both told me to try Zahav next, which I did the next day.
We were blown away by the service! We received champagne and complimentary small bites to celebrate our anniversary. The staff could not have been nicer and the food was excellent. We raved about the butter that came with the bread basket and they even gave us some to take home. Between the food, excellent cocktails and wine, and the exceptional service, our meal at Abe Fisher was one of our favorites in the city.
One fo the beat meals I’ve had all year! I woke up the next working and my first thought was about that dinner! We did the short ribs and they were tender and juicy. Can’t wait to go back!
