Abe and Louie's Boston Ratings and Reviews
We were seated 25 mins late and promised a free side by the hostess and waiter before they changed their mind when the bill came. We brought it up and the manager argued with us before giving in over what was roughly 5-10% of the bill. Will never go back again.
Our waiter was great, very knowleable of the food and drinks. Wonderful sense of humor. Ken added another enjoyable dimension which added fun to our dinner and atmosphere. A&L is our favorite restaurant. Very classy place. Food outstanding. Can’t wait to return. Thanks!!!!!!!
Very good food. Steak was fabulous. Fish was excellent. Found it very expensive. Sides are plentiful - no more than 2 per couple needed. Cocktail options at dining table are minimal. Would have liked to have seen more choice here, however, there is the bar. Service was quick - felt a little rushed considering it was a special occasion.
Kenny was our server on Sat night and he was a joy! He was so attentive and the food was beyond perfection. It was crowded but we had reservations and were seated at a booth on the bar side with the glass partition so it wasn't too loud. The NY strips and corn were beyond delicious and we can't wait to go back!
We have made a tradition of eating at Abe and Louie's on or close to Valentines Day for the past few years. It is one of the few "old fashioned" steak restaurants left in Boston. Great atmosphere, excellent food and fantastic service! If you have a special occasion and want to splurge - this is the place to go!
Overall: with the rating of 4.7 we expected it to be on par with Capital Grill or Moo but it wasn’t even close. Very disappointing actually. The ambiance was just fair and the food was hideously saturated in salt. Was all the salt a ploy to get us to order extra drinks? The portions on the wine relative to the price was insulting. Maybe a fine ultra exclusive restaurant could justify it but not here. The waiter was great, so the rating would be even lower if it weren’t for him. We dine out frequently at the better establishments I
Here in Boston and elsewhere. Abe and Louie’s is a real puzzle: how did they get a 4.7 rating in Open Table? Not justified. The experience left us wondering whether the rating were some how gamed, which sadly is doable.
Good: the dinner rolls were soft and freshly baked, buttery and nicely salted. Really raised our expectations. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive..
Bad: Each of the four of entree were overloaded with salt. Almost inedible. The Chilean sea bass was overlooked. The lobster casserole, at $55, included a generous portion of lobster but otherwise was hard to eat due to all the salt. The steak, too, was just loaded with salt and pepper. Painfully so.
Abe and Louie's is my favorite steakhouse in Boston. It is a cozy atmosphere with dark wood and old school feel. The steak is excellent and the espresso martinis amazing. The staff is all top notch and friendly from the bartenders to the waiters. I went to celebrate a birthday dinner and always go for special occasions. It is pricey but worth it.
I’ve been a regular at A&L’s for years and they’ve never let me down. Thursday was a slower than normal night and the exceptional service and food quality was able to really shine. Matt at the bar and Conrad in the dining room always come through and treated me like the older brother they both actually still like. One of the best dining experiences in Boston.
Obviously being a vegetarian the dining experience wasn’t great but that was to be expected. Some of their sides like the cauliflower steak is actually really good. I don’t recommend the cheesecake at all. The occasion was a birthday and even though they ask what occasion you are there for, they don’t do anything special. It’s a highly expensive place and definitely not worth the value.
