ABC Seafood - Foster City Ratings and Reviews
We went specifically for live seafood as we have had it before and it was amazing, but they had absolutely nothing in the tanks. The service was ok. They forgot one of our drinks, and were not especially friendly. The food was fine, but we've had better for cheaper.
The services is the worst. From checkin the waitress has an attitude for not giving me the table while half of the restaurant was empty. I argued with her so she reluctantly gave me a table in the corner. You can hardly find a waiter or waitress there. I have to collect our dirty dishes to another table to make space for ourselves. Other waitresses saw you and ignored you because they are busy talking to their regular patron. Our table has 13 ppl. We over order so much food that we have to pack to go. I asked for some flat togo box and she asked me to pay $.30 cents each. Our bill was over $250.00 and that was the type of services you will receive in that restaurant.
They ran out of turnip cakes and some other dishes (yum cha) at noon.
At 1pm, there were barely 4-5 tables left. Business is suffering from all these terrible service from these waiters and waitresses who are there for years. And send like the owner doesn’t care and let them run the show.
I would recommend for the food but not the service. The level of anger from staff or requesting basic things like soy sauce and tea without backlash of them rolling their eyes at you is painful--this happened with a few waiters and this was after waiting for a long period of time. If you don't mind horrible service but good food, then go to the restaurant.
Service has never been good but it keeps getting worse . The people in the black suits have attitudes. They need to be prompted many times to do their job. They do not clear the empty plates away, the elderly ladies pushing the food carts have to take it upon themselves to help clear the table. Have to ask many times for water. No condiments at the table. The black suited wait staff walk around with an attitude that their job is beneath them so don't bother them. It's past it's heyday since there are better choices around for dim sum.
This used to be one of our favorite dim sum places nearby. I think the quality is lower now and so is the service. There were plenty of "waiters in jackets" milling around but it was very hard to catch their attention for ordering, water, bill etc. They seem to purposely not look you in the eye but look over your head. It wasn't exactly a relaxing and worth while meal esp. when we drove 40 minutes to get there.
Had been there often and it had been much better before. Perhaps it was an off day. We could not eat most of what we ordered. What we brought home, the chow fun was so greasy that it took several paper towels to soak up the oil. The Shanghai dumpling dough was not heated through. Felt like the dumplings were warmed up in the microwave.
Staff were never warm and friendly before. But they looked so grumpy that day it was almost funny. The most helpful was a bus boy who seated us and gave us water and what we asked for while the wait staff were either busy or chatting with customers they were familiar with.
It was too bad. We had enjoyed many lunches and had a very nice Chinese New Year dinner there before. While service was never welcoming and food not outstanding, it was above average for the price.
I went with group of friends for Dim Sum lunch. Food was good but service was fair. The restaurant was busy during lunch time on Saturday that I recommend making reservation, especially for a large party. I like the idea of ordering Dim Sum out of the list instead of picking from the carts.
I arrived a little early. The hostess was very rude and told me to sit and wait. After 15 min, I called someone to seat me (the restaurant was nearly empty and it was 10 min past my dining time). It was as if they did not want us there. It took another 10 min for us to be served. The food (noodle soup) was bland and the waitstaff did not speak english. It is also very over priced for what you get. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are a Chinese national. Not sure they want anyone else there.
Dim Sum not easy to find in the Peninsula so this restaurant is a convenient "go-to" for Dim Sum if you are in the peninsula mainly because of consistency. What you see is what you get each time...nothing changes. There is always parking, always the same crew (for years now), always the same dim sum ladies, same servers, same hostess, same dim sum cart even, AND the taste of the dim sum never changes. So, if you like a certain type of dim sum, you will not be disappointed because it will always taste the same!
The food is OK, but the amount of food compare with the other restaurant are way more less. The service is poor. So many waiter and waitress, nobody care about you, you have to rise your hands to get services. Few of our dishes were sitting at kitchen too long and got cold arriving our table. Lots of dishes on the menu were told that they didn't server.
ABC should be taken off Open Table. They did not honor the reservation telling everyone that they were overbooked. After we showed up with 11 people we were told that they were overbooked!!! They did not bother to contact anyone. Shame on them! The entire Mothers Day was spoiled as a result of this fiasco.
Had reservation for Mother's Day and even received a confirmation that morning that I had a reservation at noon. Arrived at noon and was told they were not accepting reservations from OpenTable and I would have to take a number along with general off the street walk-ins. They literally had dozens of people waiting for tables. It was a madhouse. Didn't even have list of those who had made reservations. Terrible experience. They tried to blame OpenTable for the chaos. Why bother making a reservation at all if you are treated the same as walk-ins?
I haven't been here in a while, so I thought to give it a try even though I read bad reviews on Yelp. I brought the whole family. There was 6 of us. I made reservations on Open Table. When I arrived, they told me to go to the back of the restaurant. When I got there, the lady said that someone was supposed to show me a table. I told her that I made reservations on Open Table. She pointed to a table in front of us and said, "Sit here." Not very friendly. We filled out the menu for dim sum. Half of our food arrived right away. We finished it all and had to wait for about 15 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive. We kept asking the waitress and she said that it takes a while for the shu mai to cook.
Food was good. Good value. But service poor! We were not pleased! I remember the service being better. Why was there such a lag for the second half of our food? We will definitely NOT return!!! There are other dim sum places with better service.
Crab was fresh & tasty. Beef with Chinese green was delicious. Eggplant in Claypot was a bit too oily. Salted fish & minced pork rice cooked in clay pot was plain. Missing the slightly 'burnt' rice layer that is what makes clay pot rice great.
Service was good. Waitress completely forgot my order of wine. Good value for price. $105 for 3 of us without alcohol.
I have always liked the place more than anything else because some of the people from the old Harbor Village @ the Embarcadero in SF went over there after it closed. This was the first time there for dinner, if memory serves me right, and everything was good except the dessert, which they replaced. The replacement - mango pudding was like everything else, up to standard. The replaced item, red bean soup is delicate and easily burned if left unattended. That's what happened to the red bean soup. I'd definitely go back. Just the occasion has to be right.
I grew up eating in Chinese restaurants - all kinds of restaurants. And, you expect a certain low level of service. Fine. But for Dim Sum? This is was ridiculous. We ordered. The first dish took 5 minutes to arrive. They don't have the carts going around in the front of the restaurant, only orders from a menu. It took 25 minutes for all 6 of our dishes to arrive. I ordered 3 more. I turned the top of the teapot up and the server, Miranda, took away the teapot. She never returned with it. We waited another 20 minutes, and neither tea nor more food arrived. Eventually, I just got up to pay. Then, all of sudden, there's Miranda ready to help us pay the check. We actually walked away from dim sum still hungry. That has never happened to me, ever.
This place is good for lunch but DO NOT go for dinner. Service is beyond terrible. Our server "Hong" acted like we were a burden. Had to ask Hong for water 3 times. The water was then brought to the wrong table. Ordered a glass of wine which Hong left by the order station for about 5 minutes before bringing over to our table. The food was actually pretty good--just ruined by poor service. BEWARE: SERVICE CHARGE was added to our check--around 19%. Never heard of this practice. We were a party of 5 and no where on the menu did they mention this. Moral of the story...NEVER go back and tell all your friends to stay away!
I had to ask another server for hot mustard, and it took the whole stay and for me to get mad before getting water and extra syrup for our supposedly sweet tofu dessert, this after my wife REPEATEDLY asked numerous staff who gave no acknowledgement. Be glad I wrote in 10% tip despite your lackluster service. Regular customer no more.
