What Insiders Are Saying
After five years in business, ABC Kitchen is still pretty. But after a recent change in chef, the food is just pretty good.
Food was great. Service terrible. Couldn’t get anyone to take our order bring check etc. the people that did help us were very nice but we had to beg to be served. I think our waiter either left or was reassigned a different area
I took my daughter ABC Kitchen for her birthday. We had two delicious salads. The service was excellent! Really friendly, professional wait staff. The atmosphere was light and optimistic. The organic themes are complemented by the distressed furniture and casual setting. A lovely experience overall.
Fair. Everything was fair. I expected so much more based on the hype and the reviews. If there is any indication, the best thing on the menu we had was the radishes.
The wait staff were super nice. Food was good.
Since it opened, this has been one of my favorites, consistently excellent on all fronts. Highly trained staff, fabulous decor and of course the incredible food that comes out of the kitchen. I also like their policy for locally sourcing the majority of its food
The chocolate cake of the restaurant week destroyed all good taste abd memories of the starter and main dish. It just a failure if designing the menu. If you finish with panacotta, it will be much better. The chocolate cake was far from Jon George quality and big like the one you see in cheap sweet shops.
Phone number doesn’t work after 9 pm, was trying to inform them I’d be late. The phone recorded voice message says to reach the front desk after regular hours, dial abc Kitchen at 3280, which I don’t understand how to dial that. Maybe I am just too stupid.
When I was seated, it took a bit long till someone poured me water and gave me a menu.
I ordered a daily special pizza and the Black Sea bass. The food is good tho, especially the fish.
In the end I ordered a salted caramel sundae. It looked delicious. It is actually like a traditional American dessert, by traditional I mean it’s exceptionally sweeeeeeeret. I like dessert but I am not into dessert that is too sweet. It made me feel very full so I didn’t finish it. Sorry about wasting your food.
Everything was perfect......the food, service, ambiance were all top notch. Still one of the best restaurants in NYC. Can't wait to go back.......
ABC was very fresh and delicious, the only issue I found was that the salmon was farmed and over cooked, otherwise everything else was great.
We sat in a very dark room and didn’t know there were other brighter rooms. I wish they gave us the option with the big group we had.
Drive closer than Brooklyn from Long Island!!!! XXXOOO
Always blockbuster food. Tables are a bit cramped, but, the food and good lighting more than make p for it!
Went there for lunch on Restaurant Week. The food was excellent with great vegetarian choices. I had a fluke ceviche and my wife had a cold cucumber-cocunut soup, both well presented and great flavors with just a touch of heat. For mains we had a portobello burger and a veggie burger both excellent accompanied by outstanding french fries. The room was bright and comfortable at lunch but the noise level was high, so conversation a bit strained. They really did an excellent job of showing off what the kitchen can do for Restaurant Week.
Never disappoints. Another delicious lunch with great service.
Comida más o menos nada especial. Ambiente cool y buen servicio.
Had a great server who recommended food that suited our taste. But I must say the appetizers took awhile to arrive.
Very, very noisy. Non descript music that loud voices overwhelmed Large room to create even louder sound level. Food is creative. Portobello mushroom sandwich soggy but tasty. Cucumber, coconut soup with cut heirloom tomatoes was good. Friend loved veggie burger. Waiter seemed disappointed with quality of this customer. Too old perhaps? One server was actually talking baby talk as he put down plate of food. It’s a place that wants a young, fashionable crowd.
My friend and I had a restaurant week mail that was absolutely delicious! Every course was a good as the next including one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I’ve ever had.
The selections on the Restaursnt Week Menu were varied, however there were two meatless items (i.e., portobella mushroom and the veggie burger) and one fish item for the entrees (i. e., the salmon). Next year, please consider adding a beef dish to the menu. The portion of salmon served was very small. The kale salad was delicious. My nephew’s fiancé enjoyed the veggie burger. My nephew ordered the half lobster and he loved it! Please add the salted caramel ice cream with trimmings back as one of the dessert options next year. The chocolate ganache cake was decadent, but oh so good! My out-of-town guests are looking forward to their next trip to ABC Kitchen,
The food was not as remarkable as it was on other occasions. The crispy fish sandwich was bland and not remotely worth $25.
The worst and most surprising thing was that when I showed up at 11:50 for my 12pm reservation, I, and about 10 others, were locked out in the extreme heat. The restaurant was not opened to us until well AFTER noon. You shouldn't take reservations for 12pm if you are not prepared to have guests sit at 12pm. It was an awful start to what I hoped would be a very special lunch and unfortunately set the tone.
Crab toast was delicious. I had the basic entree which may have been the best fish I've ever eaten. I also recommend the cocktail with cucumber (can't remember the name)- refreshing with just a hint of spice.
Staff met my expectations for a quiet spot. it was a delight.
The food was very disappointing. Service was prompt and attentive, but our waitress probably did not say more than 10 words to us the entire time. This is not the dining experience I was expecting at all from a place that was so highly recommended by others.
The restaurant week menu is tasty if not inventive. Beware the overly large and sweet ice cream sundae. It is diabetes in a bowl.
Real organic food!
The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. They seated us quickly and provided great service.
The French toast is amazing, definitely try that!
Carrot avocado salad was spectacular. Sea bass and salmon also terrific. Our waiter was unbelievably knowledgeable and knew all ingredients and how things were cooked when we had questions. Extremely impressive. He was very kind and attentive as well. All around great experience as usual. Just very pricey.
The best dinner I had in NY. I had the monkfish....amazing. Desert was to die for. Salt Carmel ice cream sundae. Must eat here!!
As a NYC resident, we've heard lots of good things about ABC Kitchen so we stopped in for brunch.
Ambience is great; it has decor of the store and pretty comfortable for a group.
The menu looked good and had enough interesting looking options, and we ordered a few very diff apps and entrees but didn't have any that really hit the spot.
I know eggs + potatoes aren't special but it's a standard... sadly they didn't (even) do this right; tiny portion of eggs that were soggy. Drinks were pricey: fresh juiced juices were $14 a glass. I had scrambled eggs with crispy (fried) oysters: tasty but still a bit pricey at $23. One of the apps was tomato toast... One slice of toast with tomatoes ... $14 (tasty but, $14?!).
There are plenty of options for good brunch in the city; wouldn't say this was a must go, even if you're visiting.
Hair found in both starter AND main dish -too awful to believe!! First in starter, three quarters of the way through my portobello mushroom dish, I sensed a hair in my mouth and pulled it out and flicked the thin 3 inch strand off to my left and carried on with a grimace because our conversation was good and I decided to be forgiving. With the main dish I luckily did not get it anywhere near my mouth and saw it as I cut and prepared a forkbite, in the sauce around the fish. Those were long dark and double -at least two strands (if it wasn’t just a super long hair folded over 🤮) Would strongly recommend ownership focus on cleanliness and not just expansion (now there are three kitchens!) and quit having front-facing staff wear silly white chef-styled hats when the actual cooks, sous-chefs and other kitchen staff do not!
The food was Delicious and the service was outstanding.
The food is horrible. Soggy pizza. They are riding on the name.
Food was okay. Although the flavor was good, the fettuccini had way too much pesto and not a lot of fettuccini. I felt the beans were too al dente.
Pork chop was difficult to cut with their “steak knife”.
Monkfish was a little under cooked.
Almost every dish/plate was chipped. I’m not sure if that’s something they were intentionally using because the plates looked antique, but it was surprising.
The ambiance was great! And the desserts were very good - especially the ice cream sundae with Carmel corn!!
I would try it one more time.
Much too noisy. No way to have a conversation. Food just ok. No reason to go back.
Amazing food, well worth it!
ABC Kitchen is always a great place to share a meal. And, it’s a great deal during Restaurant Week!
I went with a friend and I loved the place and food. I mean it’s ABC so my expectations were quite high. We went during Restaurant Week. The food was delicious, right portion, healthy and tasty. Service was good and the ambiance was cool and trendy. I likd that the noise level was not to high and we could have a conversation without yelling, but it was lunch and not packed so maybe at night it’s different. I’ve already booked again for date night !
Food was delicious, service was amazing. Casual atmosphere with an industrial decor. Great place to come for a date or a small group! Would highly recommend.
