We were attending a concert in the theatre district, and booked this restaurant due to its proximity and menu. This was a first-time visit for everyone in our party. We were seated promptly, the server is friendly and responsive and helpful. We were impressed with the wine selection and availability of so many healthy selections on the menu. We chose the hummus and avocado tacos for appetizers, and I had the quinoa kale salad with salmon as an entree. Our dining experience was excellent, and we were seated in the theatre in plenty of time for the concert. Will definitely visit this venue again. It’s also convenient to the Tremont St. movie theatre area, too. Thank you.
I wrote this same review on Yelp -- Great service in the restaurant and by phone. Ate lunch yesterday via our Open Table reservation. Everything was perfect. Rigatoni was over the top. Perfect pre marathon meal. Garlic husband had a delish regular burger. The fries are to die for. Did carry out post marathon. Portions exactly like in house dining. Husband loved the ribs!!! I got the burger with bacon. Not disappointed after 26.2. I concur the fries are amazing. Everything tasted like we were dining in. We will be back. And thank you for treating out of towners like locals.
Made reservations for dinner before going to the Theater. Main Course menu choices are limited but food was excellent. Service was very good.
Service great!! Food was excellent!!! I was late for my reservation and they still had our table waiting for us!! Also the service was great, we had 6pm. Tickets to a show and they made sure we were on time!!!!
We ordered so many things and every bite was delicious. Our waiter Sky was personable and attentive. It was a great time.
Wait staff was great! Food was very good. Noise level was suspect on the first floor, second floor was much quieter . Location, location, location for the theater crowd.!
This seems like a really cool place to meet friends or have a date but we were here for a family dinner since we’re staying at a hotel nearby (in town for Marathon & have our teen kids with us). It was extremely loud and the place was FREEZING. Food was okay, service was just okay, too—slow to get us our check. We all had flatbreads, which were thicker than were used to by tasty and larger servings than we expected.
Best nachos I’ve ever had. Loaded and great dipping sauces. Then came the burger. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Our waitress was so sweet and professional as well.
Love Abby Lane! It’s a must when we are in Boston. The Avocado BLT & Chicken Sausage Flatbread were delicious. Melissa is an excellent server! Thanks for another great lunch!
Very good food and service. A bit noisy. Perfect for a quick bite before the theater.
This was our second visit and I look forward to the next time...from beginning to end...friendly, professional service and delicious food. We had the filet mignon steak tips and they were cooked to perfection. They also offer a theatre discount, which is a nice added bonus.
IService was excellent but food was pretty mediocre. I ordered tuna tataki and though the presentation was nice, it was kind of flavorless. Salad of roasted Brussel sprouts, hard boiled eggs and spicy garbanzos was overdressed and disappointing. Menu was great for mainstream taste. I admit to being a foodie when I travel to the city. This is a great location for theater goers.
Fantastic! The server was very knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions about the menu. The food is simple and the ingredients really shine through in each dish. We went here after the ballet on a Saturday. Very quiet with lots of seating around 4:45 pm but by the time we left at 6:30 pm is was very busy. Would highly recommend reservations.
Picked Abby Lane because of the perfect location for pre-theatre, but would go back any time. Very pleased with the food.
We stopped in before a show across the street. The good thing: the food was great. My friend and I both really enjoyed the appetizer we shared, our meals, and our drinks. The bad thing: when we asked for a table for two right around 6pm, we were told they were totally booked up until 7:30 (when our show was starting) and turned away. That makes complete sense with two shows happening that night, but there were also several empty tables within clear view. Not wanting to go back out into the rain and farther away from the theater, I stepped away from the host stand and quickly checked Open Table. Sure enough, I was able to make a reservation for 6:30, went back to the host stand, and was seated immediately. This was all within about 3 minutes of being told they were completely booked. I can't say for sure if I'll return, even with the excellent food and drink, because being turned away put such a bad taste in my mouth.
Great meal before a show at the Wilbur Theatre. Pleasant staff, perfect venue before a show.
I have gone here many times but the last 2x have been terrible. Seems like a change in menu has really downgraded the food. The maitre d is a young man who could care less about preference of the client and despite many many open seats and that we had s reservation sat us at s tiny table in the path of the kitchen staff upstairs. Asking if we could move he declined saying all tables were reserved yet there were a half dozen tables open and stayed open after we moved to the downstairs bar. This was one of my favorite places but after the rude treatment and downgrade in quality will be our last time.
I tried to get in on a very busy Saturday night. While there were numerous tables open, I was told everything was reserved. And the greeter was not at all friendly in delivering the message. I almost apologized for interrupting his evening. I was told by another greeter that it was open seating at the bar. I attempted that and after 20 minutes and two others cutting in front . . . I decided it was hopeless.
I went the following night, with a reservation. Reservations were few and I ate later than I would prefer. But, I wanted to try this place. Never were all the seats taken. I was solo and not well attended. I had to ask another waiter to refill my water, I waited an extraordinary amount of time for my bill and even longer once I surrendered my credit card. If it hadn't been the fact that a group of six sat at the table next to me (which really destroyed the ambiance of a quiet meal), I probably would have been completely forgotten.
While the meal was good, I was glad when I left. I would only suggest this location to someone for the quality of the meal, not for the ambiance or the service.
Great time! Waiter was very attentive and the food was very good!
We ate here before theater and enjoyed it very much. Our server Christine was excellent and the food was very good. Crispy avocado tacos were particularly good! It is rather loud, with voices and music, but we were able to have a conversation.
Great food, great service, a perfect place to catch a bite before the theatre. We’ll be back!
Our server Christine was a wonderful, perfect in her attentiveness and knowledge.
We had a lovely relaxing meal after the theatre. Just perfect end to a great day
The waitress was the star of our luncheon, friendly and helpful, accommodating, ready when you were, did not really interrupt, and understanding our needs, with a smile. The seating was
relatively comfortable. And the place is perfectly located for moviegoers. My only problem was
with the menu. It is low on choice, especially if you were going for a brunch; dishes were heavy,
and special, nothing light except the salads, so if you wanted something warm or simple that was not the clam chowder and not a grilled chicken sandwich, even the egg salad sandwich had
steak tartare in it. I would have liked to see just one simple sandwich like a tuna fish, nothing exotic, like all the others - I finally chose the bacon sandwich which was filled to the brim with
avocado and dressing and what not, don't remember and far too heavy/greasy for a lady but that was all they had that resembled brunch before our theatre date. My date was underwhelmed by the salad, but enjoyed it nevertheless.
Drinks were delicious. Food was fantastic. Had the tuna app with the avocado tacos and wings. We shared the burger which was cooked perfectly. Our server, Eliana, was courteous, insightful, attentive, and overall excellent across the board. I’m an AGM at a restaurant at the Seaport and she has all the qualities I would look for in a team member. We were going to see a show and the timing was perfect. We will definitely be back.
Pre-theater dinner. Wait staff was very attentive to our time constraints. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
It is convenient to the theater and serviceable. I feel like the food used to be a lot better, but it's still fine. The donuts are a standout. Service was friendly. Tables are oddly close together.
Dropped in pre-theatre, since this is right across the flipping' street! Sweet. And, first-rate cocktail menu, decent beer selection, and nice choices in both small and main plates. Flatbreads were very good, as was the clam chowder, a nicely done variation using croutons. They have one dessert- those puffy round fried dough donut hole thingees, which they supply with three sauces. A fulsome yum. We were downstairs, more of a bar scene, but they have an upstairs as well, if you want to avoid the TVs and have a large photo of Abbe Lane (their erstwhile namesake) flirting with you across the room. I asked, but the waitress had no explanation for why they do not offer any Jack's Abby lagers, either on tap or bottled. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
We dined at Abby Lane pre-theater for lunch. The craft cocktails were outstanding! And the choice of small plates, sandwiches etc was very adequate. We both had the avocado BLT, which was delicious. Thank you for a pleasant and tasty experience. Service was great as well.
The staff was attentive to our table request. Service was friendly, efficient and professional. Food was well prepared, attractively plated and tasty. Donuts for dessert were fabulous.
We were there to attend a show at the Shubert Theatre. My wife and I were seated immediately depite the fact that were were twenty minutes early waiting for our two guests to show up.
The food menu offering is very good and will satisfy anyone out for a good meal. We had the flatbread Margarita for the table to share as an appetizer followed by filet mignon tips for me
and the salmon plate for the others. The wine list is not extensive but, there are good choices to be had. Alas, not much choice is available for desserts. The lone offering was some sort of fried doughnuts which was declined by all.
The service was good and timely enabling us to attent the theatre in ample time.
The setting is homey.
Abby Lane was so convenient to the Shubert and the food was great. We had burgers and an avocado BLT which was really good. Our waitress was friendly. We did have to wait a while for the check so if you need to get to a show, order the check early. Otherwise I would definitely recommend!
This is a great restaurant in the theater district. It is casual and has a great vibe and good food. Our server was friendly and very attentive. This is our go to place when we are in Boston for a show. I recommend making a reservation as we haven't been able to get in if we wait until the last minute.
Very good service and food!
We chose Abby Lane because of its proximity to the Shubert, and we’re so glad we did. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient, but blissfully unrushed (despite being a busy evening!). Would definitely recommend Abby Lane. And if you’re looking for a nice app, try the cheddar jalapeño kettle chips. Just enough and really yummy!
Very convenient to theater district.
Good draft selections but average bar food fare.
We were there before a Dead concert(without Jerry) so the place was insane- but we got seats, ate and got into the show with no problem- great for any theater events- food was good but a couple items were forgotten- I attributed that o the craziness of the place- definitely would go back if going to a show there-
We went for a pre theater drink and meal. It was busy but we had reserved a table through Open Table and we were brought to a table immediately. Amazing!!! The korean chicken wings were amazing and the cocktails were world class!!! Our waiter was slammed but was experienced enough to be able to keep his tables happy and we honestly felt no delays! Kudos to Abby Lane for managing the pre theater crowd perfectly. Loved it!!!
Always a good meal. We enjoyed the chicken wings, fried chicken sandwich with excellent fries, and Brussels sprout Caesar salad. Packed, so we went back outside and madr a reservation on open table, seated 10 minutes later! Great service.
It's always good from the food and drinks, to the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff, . Service and food are always great, no problems with anything .
