Service was fair. Did not pay attention to table. Need for drink refills, etc.
Awesome! Very good service and perfect location in the Theater District. An ideal place for people who are going to the theater and want a post-show drink or pre-show meal. Beautiful interior and great location.
We were seated early which was nice.went down hill from there.there were still a number of empty tables.we placed our order for a burger and a chicken sandwich.a half hour went by and no food.i got the waiters attention and he apologised for the wait and said it wouldn't be much longer.another 10 minutes went by and had to get his attention again.he said the kitchen was slammed.a minute later, the table next to us was served their food even though they were seated 20 minutes after we placed our order.the waiter was now saying dessert was on him.at this point we weren't sure we would have enough time.still we waited.i got the hostesses attention this time and she said a manager would be over soon.the manager finally came over with our food, well over an hour later and said dinner was on the house.we tried to eat the food but it was so over salted that it was inedible .the chicken was doused in vinegar even though the menu mentioned nothing about vinegar.we left to make our concert without any dinner.would never recommend.
Food was not good. My husband's cod was cold and raw, as well as the vegetables. We complained and all we got was an apology. The 27 dollar dish was left on our bill. For 3 people the bill was over $200 and it was mediocre. Won't be back at all.
The Maker's Manhattan that I had was well crafted. The blue potato chips with french onion barbecue dipping sauce were addictive, as were the zucchini fries and the dipping sauce that came with them. And the Maine Lobster Roll with truffle aioli and fresh chives was delicious!
Food was great. The clam chowder was amazing. We all ordered pizzas, they were all very good. There was a group of us going to a show. This was the perfect place to eat before the show. The cocktail choices were interesting, without being overwhelming, so we all tried different cocktails and they were all delicious. Our overall experience was excellent!
The food is much better than the ticket price suggests. Great for a pre or post theatre dinner.
always a good solid meal. great stop before a show
Empty restaurant on summer Sunday afternoon, music blasting, asked to lower ( husband has hearing problem) but turned back up right away.
Food, menu choices, ambiance, all good. Server was
not knowledgeable about ingredients in cocktails,
ingredients in menu items. Having to go ask several
times compromised the dining experience.
We were seated immediately after arriving. Great table by the windows overlooking the theater. Server, Erin, was very personable and professional. We will be returning again. The Chicken Confit with sweet potato purée was excellent!
The food was great! I'd have given it 5 stars if not for the service. Our waitress was very condescending and impatient. Rather than answer questions, she just rolled her eyes & said she would come back later after we decided. I would go back again if I wasn't afraid she be our waitress again!
We were really disappointed in the quality of the food. We ordered sliders which were the best part of the meal. The sweet potato side was very bland and unappealing. The steak was undercooked and lacked flavor. With all the restaurants in Boston we were very disappointed to waste a meal here.
Fantastic find! Great food! Great vibe! The BEST nachos!
I ordered the burger rare and it was perfect. My daughter had the swordfish and it was spot on...lovely presentation. The service was fabulous and the drinks were delicious. Happy we tried it. Would definitely go back late night to check out the vibe. Decor was hip with lounging spots on sofas. Quite pleasant.
It was a (4) girl reunion, long time high school friends of 44 yrs, getting together once a year, from out of state. We went on Sat., 7/16 for an early evening meal before a show. Our table was ready by the window, as requested..the staff were friendly, efficient, courteous and the food delicious! We enjoyed the mixed cocktails and never felt rushed throughout our meal. I recommend Abbey Lane for a good time with your friends/date night. Atmosphere feels positive and happy! I'm looking forward to the next visit!
Went to Abbey Lane with a couple of work friends before a show. They were both really impressed by the menu choices and presentations The Eggplant fries were a delicious alternative to their crisp "regular" fries. Then there was desert...no crumbs were left from the churro doughnuts (and 3 dipping sauces) or the Lemon Lava cake. The additional dining area upstairs which can be used for functions, has been added to our list for potential business dinners. Excellent dinning experience!
I've been to Abby Lane several times before - it's one of my standbys for pre-theatre dinner. This time the food wasn't quite up to the usual standard. Everything was very spicy - the bacon in my salad, the shrimp I added on and the fries my friend had with his burger. I like spicy food but this was over the top and everything ended up tasting the same. A pity as I normally really enjoy it here. Hopefully it was just an off night and I'll be giving them another chance.
Traveling on business in Boston and this was my first meal outside the hotel. I loved the atmosphere and the service was great. I arrived mid-afternoon and I was very hungry. I had the clam chowder and one fried calm taco. The soup was good but only warm not hot when served; the taco was not as expected. It appeared stewed not fried and was small. Although not as expected it was good. I would recommend the Resturant it you found yourself in that neighborhood .
Well... there was a wedding upstairs and it was very noisy and busy. Our server Kevin was good. We liked our wine (French red blend) and thought it was a good price. We shared a lobster roll. It was yummy. We loved the truffle aoli that came with the zucchini fries but not the fries.
Great Service, excellent food. Upstairs is a little quieter but there was an event when we were there. Main floor dining is just as good but has a little more noise with the bar. Will definitely be back.
I visited Abby Lane with my mother after the theater and I ordered a medium burger, which was served to me rare. After politely asking to have it taken back, it was given to be a second time- the same burger chopped into pieces on a different bun and still extremely rare. I tried to eat the cooked outside, but still got sick that night.
Despite the food being quite ill prepared and unprofessional, our server was fantastic and did his best to accommodate us with this issue. He spoke with the chef for us more than once and ended up offering us free dessert and coffee. He also took the burger off of our bill.
I would possibly come back to order drinks, but after this experience I wouldn't trust the food.
Our Waiter was fabulous. We were there Wed July 6th at 4 pm. I am afraid I have forgotten his name. But he REALLY made our visit special. We loved everything about our experience, except how loud it got after 6 p.m. and how close our 'neighboring' tables were; though we didn't feel imposed on by them . I know some people trying to get back to the window seats had difficulty navigating through the tables. We were also grateful for accommodating our 10 min tardy arrival when lost finding the restaurant
This was an ok experience mostly due to the server and the food. It was very slow, in fact only one other couple on the 1st floor. I asked for a window table (all 6 of them were empty) she said that was set for 4 and we were only 2! If it wasn't for the server who told her it was ok, we would have been sitting in the back of an empty restaurant on beautiful evening instead of at the open air windows (every table was empty)
We went for pre-show dinner. The food & drinks were good, but the service this time was not so good, we had to chow quickly to make curtain.
I reserved a table here for after theater dining... Right next door and my friends and I wanted to try something new. The menu is limited and a bit pricy. The food was good (not great) but one of my friends had a major issue with her dish. In reading the description of the chicken focaccia sandwich, there is NO mention of jalapenos anywhere. My friend bit into her sandwich to discover them. She has an adverse reaction to jalapenos and spicy food. She would never had ordered the sandwich. We spoke to the waitor who agreed that they are not mentioned on the menu. He neither offered my friend a replacement meal nor did he comp her for her meal, which was very disappointing. It was as if oh well, too bad. Not going back any time soon.
Perfect pre show meeting a meal.
Cod was excellent, salad great.
Salmon had no flavor and was dried out.
We all felt AWFUL for several hours afterward. I could not even eat one of my favorite cookies during Game of Thrones that evening.
Grabbed a quick late-night bite after a convention right before the kitchen closed and the food and service was great.
Food was overly salted in general. Drinks were great though.
We chose Abby Lane for a pre-theatre meal. Despite making a reservation, we were escorted upstairs to the bar area and seated at a table all the way at the end of the room next to a very large standing party. Upon request, they agreed to move us to another area, but it felt like we hadn't made a reservation at all. Our servers were nice, but hard to find, and the food was just average. Very disappointed that I brought out-of-town guests here.
Our dining experience was awesome in every way! We had an unexpected ride into Boston of over 2 hours due to traffic and missed our reservation time. I notified the restaurant as soon as I knew we would be late and they asked if they could push back our reservation to accommodate the time change. I quickly said YES and thanked them. When we arrived 45 minutes later, our window table was still held. This was the beginning of an incredible meal. My salmon and sides were delicious! My 9 year-old granddaughter said it was the best chicken tenders she ever ate. The meals were wonderful and the French fries were so crispy and flavorful. All portions were large. So glad I selected Abby Lane (again) for our meal before the play. It was well worth the wait.
Abby Lane is a lively restaurant/bar in the theatre district of Boston. Seems like a great place for young couples or groups of people. I did not find it very "single diner" friendly, though. Food was quite good but very slow to come out -- I think the bartender forgot to put my order in because when he noticed I had been sitting there for a good twenty minutes (for a half dozen raw oysters and a salad) he said he's go to check on my order, came back and said the kitchen was really busy, and then my food arrived almost immediately. My bill (for one person) was $90 with tip -- that included no real entree, the two appetizers mentioned above, two cocktails, and a dessert -- bit pricey but the food was quite good and the bartender was attentive enough. I would go there again if I was with friends but never again alone -- they don't seem to know what to do with s single diner (which was not the case at the other places I ate at in Boston).
Twice we had reservations and the first time they had a fire. This time no electricity while the businesses nearby had electricity...didn't pay their bill? The food and service are ok but they are either the unluckiest restaurant I have ever seen or they have series problems. Messed up two special occasions
Our server was not attentive at all. We were continually asking for water and we were left without service when we were looking to ask questions or order. Also, the lounge was closed when we went and that was one of the main reasons we went here. Disappointing.
I would have loved to be able to give Abby Lane a good review, I've heard great things. However, Abby Lane called me about 3 hours before my reservation and told me there had been a flood and I would not be able to attend to my reservation. Of course, I said no problem and immediately went looking for another reservation. Imagine my surprise when I checked their twitter and they announced they were close for a private function that evening. Please don't lie to your customers, all you had to do was offer a chance to reschedule.
This was our first time here and it was great! The service was very good and the food and drinks were equally good. They had plenty of choices on the menu (for kids too). the fries were fantastic (crispy). clam chowder was good, cocktails were great. They were very attentive. I will be back!
We made 5:15 reservations before a show. Got there and place was fairly empty, we were seated next to the host stand at a hightop. Knowing this would not be an ideal place we asked if we could move to a table next to the windows and were told that they were all reserved, asked for a different hightop and were told the same. If I had known you could actually request a table, not offered on line I guess, I would have never picked the table that we were seated at.
We got up and sat at the end of the bar which were probably the quietest seats in the house, totally psyched! I guess next time we just go and sit at the bar, no reservation needed!
Bartender told us he was new so we cut him a break on the timing, a little long, but he was really a nice guy. Food came and was yummy. My wife had fish with some kind of Asian sauce, really tastes, I had a taco and a salad also good.
Our first time at Abby Lane. Picked it 'cos the four of us were going to a show at The Wilbur. Perfect pick and much better food than I anticipated. We were lucky enough to have Skylar as our waiter. He was brilliant. So attentive and anticipatory. Great personality!
This will be our go-to spot for Theatre District dinners.
We had no idea where to eat on our last night in Boston - so we asked my cousin, who is a long-time local. What a find! Incredibly good food, and reasonable prices, in a beautiful atmosphere. Too bad I don't live here, I'd be back over and over to try their whole menu! Don't mess with other places -- this is the dinner you really want. Superb!
