This was a disappointing visit - the service was pleasant albeit pretty absent - the food wasn’t hot and two of us ordered that same thing and the portions were vastly different. We’ll try it again someday, but not in the near future, so that we have enough time to forget this night.
Great before the theater
To our surprise food was very good . And our server was very courteous and quick
It was a rainy night and due to traffic we had to change our reservation from 5:45 to 6:15. The hostess, or whomever answered the phone assisted us in doing so with ease. That alone, confirmed to me that I had made the right choice of somewhere to eat in Boston before going to the theatre. They probably get many a phone calls of that nature due to people commuting in from the suberbs! In any event, when we finally got there, although the hostess assured us that we could be seated right away and have enough time for dinner, we opted to have a drink and appetizers at the bar for we were pretty tense from traffic and running late. With that said, we went upstairs and sat at the bar, were greeted by the bartender ASAP, let him know we were looking for a quick drink and app’s and he was great! The service was so good, we had time for 2 rounds of drinks along with the Kobe Sliders that were delicious and some delightful conversation with our server! It really was a relief and we had plenty of time to walk to the theatre, just around the corner and enjoy the show!
Excellent pre-theatre destination! A "little attitude" with the wait staff.
Items that were on the web-menu were not available in the restaurant (pork chop, blue cheese burger, ...). I ordered The Tremont Burger cooked medium. It was blood rare and came with fries that reminded me of Burger King. Very disappointing. :(
Mediocre food at best. Looking for a quick meal before theater. Large portions didn’t make up for lacking quality. Food served cold, salmon ordered well done came out rare...no apologies and long delay in reserving. Hardly saw waiter and water glasses were empty with no refills for extended time.
I wanted to take a moment to shout out to the kindest most helpful waitress I have ever encountered ANYWHERE!! MELISSA went over the moon and beyond to make our girlfriends birthday a special day. She was very attentive, honest, and just an overall joy to speak with. This is our very first visit to Abby Lane and because of her, we will definitely be returning. MELISSA we can not thank you enough for being an OUTSTANDING waitress and making our first of many visits a night to remember 😍😍😍😍😍
Be aware that if you come pre-theater you should plan 90 minutes for dinner versus 60. Ask for your check early and pay cash or use 1 credit card. We were delayed leaving because tables around us did not plan accordingly and wanted to split checks 6 ways (this is rude to your server).
An excellent option for casual food; especially if your pre-gaming for the Royale. My wife and I grabbed dinner before a concert. The Royale is about 50 feet from Abby Lane. Super convenient. Pefectly laid back and great ambiance.
For some reason the drink pours were only about 50% of the martini glass and the bartender couldn't make a basic Cosmo when we were there on Tues. Had to flag down a server every time we needed a refill or wanted to put in more food. Food is still really good though!
The price of the food is too high for what you get. The service was strange -- 4 different people waiting on us. There wasn't a dedicated bartender. It seemed like different people were making drinks and the person I thought was a bartender would go to tables and take drink orders. Because of that, the drinks were never consistent. Plus, one of the drinks actually had grains of rice in it. How that happened remains a mystery.
Great spot to stop after a Sunday matinee in the theater district. We were glad we had made reservations in advance because the place filled up very quickly!
We went pre-theatre. Excellent salads. We split a few appetizers and had drinks. Drinks very good but pricey ($13). Very good service. We've been quite a few times. We wish they had regular nachos instead of wonton nachos. Very good burrata app and tuna tar tare.
Food was great> timely service and we got to the show on time!
The seating arrangement was terrible. There were tables on the perimeter of the upstairs and we had a legitimate table for 4 reserved. However, they seated us at these backless cushions in the middle of the room where there was a table in the middle too low to reach from said cushions. So we ended up both standing and sitting on the floor. I would not return there until they remedy this back ache issue!!
We went before a show and were seated right away at a high top. Loved watching the kitchen as I am in the industry. Ordered burgers and were disappointed. Way overcooked. Had the donuts for dessert and they were delicious!! Warm and sweet. Added a cappuccino and off to the show. Would definitely try some of the other dishes if we get back as they looked great coming out of the kitchen.
I have previously been a huge Abby Lane fan. This time was absolutely nothing to write home about which was disappointing because I had bragged to two newbies that it was the best. Earlier in the week I called and tried to change my 4:30 reservation to 5:00 and they said it didn’t matter because the table was booked after us and they wouldn’t give it away even if we were late. When we got there, closer to 5 as I predicted, at first they said there was no table available. Then they said we had to be out by 6:15. Then changed it to 6:30. We never sent anything back even though it was all cold - from apps to entrees - because of the time crunch that was imposed. Everything took longer because of the service though. My friend ate her clam chowder with a fork because she didn’t get a spoon, even after asking, for almost 20 minutes after food was dropped. We were planning on dessert and coffee but the check was dropped clearly indicating we had to leave. Bad experience. Not sure what I think now about Abby Lane. 😕
Had a reservation and they put us on couches. It was horrible to try to eat that way and nobody gave advanced warning
We went for my sisters birthday , we sat near the window , it was great! Our food was delicous , our drinks were also good. Our waitress melissa was great ! We enjoyed everything about this restaurant , no complaints.
Food was great 👍 appetizer cauliflower was super. The service was great !
Open kitchen look very professional nice clean efficient operation. The only downside is tables are a bit close.
We were attending play at the Colonial Theatre and looking for casual dining with great food nearby. We decided to try Abby Lane and were not disappointed. Great food, cocktails and ambiance close to all of the theatres. Definitely will go back.
The ambiance of the restaurant was great for our business dinner. Background noise was minimal so our conversations were easy to follow. The staff was very friendly and helpful to bring the food just as each member wanted. One of the guests is a very finicky eater and the staff delivered the meal to his liking.
Dinner before a show across the street at the Boch Center. Good drinks and food; service was a bit slow but understandable given the pre-show crowd (all trying to be finished around the same time).
Great burger. Loved the warm cinnamon doughnuts
The food was so overly salty. We couldn’t finish the nachos and instead asked for the cauliflower app which was equally salty. Maybe it was a bad night? We’ve had the nachos before and they’ve been good.
The food is nothing spectacular but it's a great place to get a bite before a show.
We had the sliders, fish tacos, nachos, mussels, and the strawberry salad. Sliders and fish tacos were DELICIOUS! The mussels were not the best.
Birthday Great I appetizers and meal
Very good service, Food was very good. Great place to eat before a show!
Drinks were lovely. Upstairs was so dark as to make it creepy. Food was no better than Friendly's which was a little surprising at those prices.
Excellent food. Good service, although the waitress took to long getting us dessert and we were a bit rushed. Overall however the food was very good and the service was quite good, as well.
It was crowded, incredibly noisy and they gave us a horrible table. We had a reservation and they stuck us right next to the door at a table the size of a postage stamp.
A great location for theater goers!
We loved how convenient the location was to our venue. However, your hostess Karen was very rude and gave me an attitude. I called saying we would be 5-7 minutes later than our reservation. She told me in a snippy voice that they don’t hold reservations more than 20 minutes. We happen to be on time- but didn’t appreciate the hospitality
Fabulous food and amazing wait staff and service. It’s my go to place because tasty gluten free food options.
Always a go-to for dining before or after any theater
Swordfish was delicious and beautifully served! Service was great. Wait staff accommodating to our grandson - who loved the sliders.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff
I wish I liked it better, as the hostess was great and had us excited to be there!
Unfortunately, neither of us cared for our food. We shared some apps and each had a dinner. I had the tuna, and barely ate three bites. The waitress seemed bored and uninterested in us, and never even asked why we didn’t eat our food.
It was a shame, as it was an interesting menu and the decor was fun.
Did not even have dinner since we walked out...we have eaten here at least 15 times over that past few years before various shows at the Wilbur and elsewhere...we will never return since the host was so dismissive of our request to not sit elbow to elbow at a two top wedged between two large tables. Abbey lane needs to train some host staff to do their job
