Enjoy the very finest Italian cuisine at Abboccato in New York, NY. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, it strives to present food in the most appealing ways possible, making you want to take a photo before divining into any dish served. A Zagat mentioned destination, it is a foodie's must try establishment.
The menu at Abboccato includes a prix fixe option that can also be ordered la carte. Choices include the shareable starters like polpetti and a charcuterie plate. There are elegant soups made from scratch and irresistible antipasti like the beet salad or the burrata. Gorgeous pasta dishes and meat or seafood entres are just as innovative as the other menu items, and no meal is complete at Abboccato without dessert, with the strudel being particularly fantastic.
We used to love this restaurant. They had a great prix fixe meal before the theater with a varied menu. Unfortunately, they are closing their door tomorrow for good, so they were out of some menu items that we would have ordered, and the prix fixe menu was gone. The ala carte prices were high for the amount of food that was served.
It will be a loss to the neighborhood.
We regretted the Prix Fixe dinner menu is no longer available, but our a la carte choices were delicious, as well as good value.
I understand it is no longer open. Too bad, because you could get an excellent meal and walk across the street to City Center.
A very good restaurant with a varied menu offering a very convenient location across from City Center. Excellent staff, considerate service, and a relaxed setting.
Food was good and service was excellent. Great price for pre-fixe lunch. Time was good to catch a show
worn out with food that was so slaty I could not eat it.
First experience at this restaurant but it will not be the last! Impeccable service, classic Italian cuisine with some interesting twists and a quiet, leisurely dining experience ideal for a romantic conversation. Try the Italian Spreads with perfectly toasted bread, Arancini had a fresh basil flavor, and Tagliatelle with bolognese ragu had a slow-cooked, savory depth. Campari margarita? -- yes, please! A tempting dessert menu but we did not partake. Looking forward to another visit.
Waitress completely lacked personality. No feeling of welcome. Food okay not great.
I've gone past this restaurant on my way to City Center many times, and since not much of the restaurant is visible from the street, I ignored it. Last week, I attended a matinee at City Center and did not wish to venture too far for a restaurant that would serve dinner at the early hour of 5:00 pm, so I walked into Abbocato and was quickly seated. They have a price-fixed dinner for a reasonable price that turned out to be quite delicious. I expect to be back to Abbocato next season when I renew my subscription to City Center.
our meal was ok. nothing special. Our waitress never smiled and acted as if our order was an imposition to her
Often eat there , pre-theatre. Fine food and service, very convenient to New York City's City Center.
I like to eat at Abbocato when I am attending a performance at New York City Center across the street. For these events it is essential to book a week or more in advance. The entrees are fairly expensive (many over $30) but there is a well priced pre-theater menu which offers 3 choices in each category of starter, main course, and dessert. One of the entree choices is always a pasta. Desserts include tiramisu and panna cotta. The food is definitely well above average in quality, without being pretentious. Staff are pleasant and they always get you out the door in time for your show.
This restaurant should be perfect for those attending Manhattan Theatre Club performances or other events at City Center. It is fairly attractive. But the food was served cold, and there was nothing that was very good. The entrees were left out for too long and I guess the kitchen is far away. We ordered a plate of biscotti with our coffee and they were tasteless. What a disappointment. Our first visit to this place.
Great food and service!
Calm and comfortable spot in the West 50s that has a great prix fixe for lunch. Food is very good and the service is excellent.
The waitresses do not pay attention AT ALL. The bartender does not know how to make the simplest drink - Manhattan????
The food while hot had absolutely no seasoning or taste.
Don't waste your money on this one.
This was my second time dining at Abboccato, the first time being 4 years ago after my college graduation at City Center across the street. The food was excellent, location cannot be beat.
The maitre d', a gentleman from Morocco, does a brilliant job of greeting guests and making sure everyone is comfortably served before departing to Encores at City Center.
Wonderful meal anytime and excellent service. Have dined with friends/relatives with food allergies, never any issues from the kitchen. Range of things to choose from while having a compact menu
We had a party of 8, service was wonderful and so was the food!
Directly across from CityCenter this is a find. Food choices are many and very tasty.
Staff is pleasant. Worth a visit just to dine here.
Eh. Nothing exciting could make better food at home
Service was good however
Friday nights before the show is usually noisy everywhere, and this is no exception. Not a place for conversation with your guests.
We visit regularly and this is the first time the food disappointed: The salmon and lamb chop both were overdone, my Prix Fixe shrimp skewer was cold. On the plus side, the butternut squash shrimp bisque as well as the strudel were excellent.
Absolutely fabulous experience……I had two appetizers…Shrimp oregatana and fried calamari..out standing. Also outstanding their beet salad and their sensational pinot noir. Most definitely will return..My friends love it.
Thank you….
James...
I've been here before; but, only sat, drank and nibbled at the bar. So for a quick stop if you have little time or a full meal, this is a wonderful place.
The price fiixe menu was limited. Since we do not eat sea food nor pork products we could not order. No substitutions are permitted. Very unfair! We generally go to other restaurants where this is not a problem. We chose this restaurant for the convenience of City Center. However our food choices were good: Bronzini and Salmon, deserts very good, coffee very pricey. Service was very good.
We might return if menu items on price fixe was changed.
I was at Abboccoto Sat March 5,16 . It has been about 4 years since I had been there as it was always a regular favorite of mine, about once or twice a month. I was so excited to be able to get back to this wonderful restaurant after all this time.....what a disappointment, The service seemed to be a real chore for the girl waiting on us never a smile never a joke never advice on ordering, no personality at all. We ordered and the food was ok at best nothing exciting or well presented the only thing exceptional was the price way way overpriced for what we had. I should have gone down the street to Circos or around the corner to a diner.
Great location before or after Manhattan Theatre Club or City Centre performances. Excellent prix fixe.
We had a very nice dinner at Abboccato before a performance at Manhattan Theater Club. We had the prix fixe, which was very good. I started with the tomato and mozzarella salad and my friend had the bruschetta. We both had the salmon main course and then shared two delicious desserts. Everything we ate was very god.
Not particularly good. Nothing special. Many better restaurants from which to choose.
Very happy with the restaurant. Intimate.
Went there for a romantic dinner, it was terrible. Manager was pretty rude, service was slow. The food wasn't flavorful and oily, not worth the 80$ I spent there. Not to mention the manager getting into a fist fight with a young woman! Quite possibly the worst mea/experience l I've ever had eating out
Excellent service...warm friendly atmosphere. All the courses were beautifully presented and prepared very well.
I have eaten many times at Abboccato - each time has been a delightful experience. Meals are beautifully presented, tasty and portioned perfectly. I love the arancini and this time I enjoyed the butternut squash soup and their garden salad. My companion loved her Nonna's meatball sandwich. Service is friendly and efficient, our water glasses were kept full. The bar offers several delicious specialty cocktails as well as a fine wine and beer list.
So convenient to City Center and Carnegie Hall, we will be enjoying meals there again soon!
I was very disappointed. I've been coming here for years and had some very good meals. But other than the calamari this was not a good meal. The cannelloni was tasteless and over sauced. The panna cotta was terrible. Did they get a new chef this year?
Very good italian restaurant just across from City Center. Great for dinner just before a performance; and if it is raining or freezing, you just walk across the street! The food is really good and the service is excellent.
Came here during restaurant week. I was not impressed with the pre-fixed menu but the actually taste was even more disappointing. I had the caprese salad - they served it in a deconstructed style and the portion was very small. Had the shrimp skewers over arugula as my main course...again small portions and te shrimp was dry and very tasty. Last was the apple strudel for dessert - this was actually not bad. Friend of mine has the fried calamari - very dry.
The ambience is very nice, too bad the food does't match it
Entree description different then dish that was presented. Lackluster side dishs.
Our dinner was perfect. The presentation was lovely, the food delicious, the service impeccable. And to top it off, a candle, standing in a blueberry, for our birthday celebrant.
I've been before for late night drinks everything from olives to desert was just outstanding not cheap but for a treat it's just right
