Abalonetti Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
one dish did not come till 30 min after all the others, thought he forgot to order. a waiter shoud always come to the table and say its on the way, or whatever, to let the diner know it still is working. Not a word was said. when the mussels and clams dish came it was a very small order which is surprising for this restaurant. would not order that dish again.
A great pick for seafood and calamari. I have walked by this restaurant a dozen times, but after reading Open Table reviews I tried it out. I took three business colleagues who hadn't been to Monterey before. We all had different calamari dishes and all of us loved them. Service was great. I'll be back.
We are local and have dined at most of the restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf. We had not been to Abalonetti's for years so decide to give it a try once again. Wharf restaurants tend to be expensive -- Abalonetti's was no exception except the food at best was only adequate. Started with calamari, followed by sanddabs with over cooked veggies for me and small overcooked fried shrimp and chips for my husband. They were promoting their margaritas but the ones that arrived were warm and sweet. We both switched to wine. Next time we visit the Wharf, we will return to Scales, Domenico's or over on Wharf 2, the Sandbar & Grill. All good. We also like Massaro & Santos on the Coast Guard Pier.
We have been coming here for years & they have a great local menu!! The wait staff is amazing, along with the fresh seafood items offered on a daily basis. I love their Calamari Steak & the fresh oysters most of all! Also, you can't beat their antipasto items too. I would highly recommend Abalonetti Bar & Grill to anyone who wants to visit the Monterey Wharf or who is luckily enough to live in paradise, like me!!
Service could have been better. View was very nice and the drinks were really well put together. Once our food came out we were a little disappointed with a pasta because it seemed all they used for the sauce was butter. Girlfriend did not enjoy her meal. The ciopinno was really delicious.
Great for romantic evening. Scenic view of Monterey Bay seated by the window. Delicious crispy calamari and creamy clam chowder for appetizer. Mahi-Mahi was so perfect with veggies and mashed potatoes. Great service and very friendly staff! Nice wine selection and we will visit again!
We have been going to Abalonetti's for over 50 years. It is by far the best restaurant to enjoy squid prepared many different ways. Even though they have all kinds of fresh fish available, we always start out meal with squid rings, followed by the Marty Special. It is fried squid fillets, over roasted eggplant, covered with an excellent marinara sauce, and cheese. Don't miss it!
What a fun location! Take the scenic walk across the pedestrian bridge from the parking lot through the historic Monterey fishing village to Fisherman's Wharf. Walking down the wharf to the restaurant is a delight to the senses. The smells, the colorful visuals and sounds give you the sensation of being part of another world. The restaurant dressed in striking blue turquoise finds you half way down the wharf. Most of the restaurants have a Greeter outside whose sole job is to entice you in. They explain their specialties, nuances of their bar and give you a glimpse of their Bay view.
The food did not disappoint! I had a wonderful Sicilian bread salad dressed to perfection with a grilled calamari steak that was as tender and sweet as could be! A window overlooking the water topped it off. Save room for the dessert tray - full of classical Italian sweets. It was a nice way to spend an evening after a long day at work!
We always have a great time here - the food is very good, the portions are very generous and the service is very warm, friendly and prompt. We came this time for our daughter's college graduation dinner, because she has come to love this restaurant. As usual, we had a great time. We love the appetizer bar and had a big tray, along with fried calamari. So good and tender. The cioppino is wonderful, the clam chowder outstanding, and the grilled calamari is unusual and terrific as always. We had a couple of people in our party who do not like fish, and they found very good options as well. From appetizers through desert, wonderful meal.
14 guests celebrating mothers day 2017 with reservations we were served on time tables were joined together to seat all of us waiters were courteous and professional our meals were delicious and served on time I will come back
Booked a table for my wife and I using Opentable. Got there and staff seemed confused when we told them so, but still, they gave us a window seat as requested and seated us promptly. Ordered oysters on the half-shell, calamari, sampler entree, and a crab/shrimp louie salad. Waiter came back and said they were out of oysters. Seemed odd to be out at 1p on Sunday, but maybe not. Ordered shrimp cocktail instead. The calamari was excellent, quite well seasoned and fried well. The shrimp 'cocktail' was a pile of little shrimp with cocktail sauce on the side, and not very much of it. Never had it like that before. The sampler platter seemed a bit shy of being a substantial amount, but it was adequate, I guess. The crab/shrimp louie had a nice amount of crab and shrimp (I had a hard time making up my mind and the waiter suggested half/half) but the dressing tasted like it was Thousand Island dressing straight out of a bottle. I had their house pale ale which I thought was quite good and the service was good, but overall I rate this place and experience for a lunch on a Sunday afternoon as 'fair' considering the prices.
I've been visiting Monterey for over 30 years, and it's always a chore to decide where to eat. I usually start at Fisherman's Wharf. I've eaten at just about every restaurant there, and I've never had a bad meal; Fresh seafood is the watchword here. It was raining the first night I ate here, and it was very inviting inside. Fried calamari is a MUST when visiting the area and Abalonetti serves the best I've tasted. I also had the Cioppino. It was very good, but not what I'd call outstanding, but the bread was great. I ate here a second time as I was hungry for fried seafood (which I seldom eat), and the Captain's Platter fit the bill. Very tasty. I also had the roasted garlic for a starter, and it, too, is a good choice. The staff were great, and as a single diner, they made me feel at home. For being in a "touristy" area, the prices are very reasonable.
