Midtown Manhattan is expensive for diners. The choices are usually: 1) vey expensive mediocre tourist-driven food, mostly in the theatre district or 2) insanely expensive great food for high-end locals on visitors on an expense account. ABA is in the wonderful middle zone: excellent food, well-priced. It serves up all the favorites of Mediterranean fare (hummus, lamb, shish-kabob, etc.) but with the complex twist of Turkish spices. Service is great, and the atmosphere is relied and friendly -- it's not stiff and hushed or hip and too-loud, just a good place for families or friends -- visitors and Mid-town West locals -- to exhale from a long day and inhale some excellent food.
Not much for vegans but the vegetable stew was tasty and delicious, service was fast and friendly. It was just VERY noisy and packed.
Hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in the city!!!!
My wife and I have been here several times. Every time we go we order a different dish. Every time we go it is fantastic. We can’t wait to come back and try something different again!
We went for a pre-theater group dinner. We ordered 2 grilled fish entrees and 2 lamb entrees.
Service was gracious. The restaurant has no liquor license - but the waiter directed us to a local wine shop. There was no bottle charge- a positive.
We were not rushed. Prices very fair given proximity to Carnegie hall, city center.
Went with another couple for dinner at ABA. 3 of us ordered the 4-course dinner special which included an appetizer, main, daily special dessert, and coffee or tea. The eggplant salad appetizer was smoky and garlicky, as it should. The chicken kebabs were succulent and cooked perfectly - not dried out. The red cabbage that came with the kebabs was delicious. The lamb/beef kofte contained a generous portion of juicy meat. The vegetable casserole was also very good and the restaurant accommodated the person ordering that dish that could not have rice and gave them cabbage instead. The choice of dessert that evening was rice pudding - a dish with more pudding than rice (a good thing in my opinion) or chocolate pudding - reminding me of the My-t-fine my mother made for me as a child. Recommend Aba highly--they do not disappoint.
There is no alcohol available at ABA, but they are fine if you bring your own and even provide an ice bucket.
The staff is friendly and accommodating, the portions are generous, and the good is very good.
We were late due to unbelievable traffic delays and had theater tickets. The restaurant was incredibly accommodating and everything was delicious. We want to come back when we can savor the meal!
Crowded. Food was bland. Service was disjointed.
Very authentic - just like my grandmother's middle eastern home cooking! Reasonable costs, BYOB and wonderful service. What more could you want?!
La comida estuvo excelente, de primera. La atención fue muy buena.
Very accommodating for our group of 6. This is a BYOB restaurant and I asked if we could drop our wine off early so I didn't have to schlep it around with me and they were happy to do so. The table was ready when we arrived 10 mins early. Wait staff was friendly and not over-bearing. Food was delicious we tried many appetizers and entree's, had food to take home. They didn't rush us even though they were busy and noise-level was okay for the whole table to still be able to have conversations. I'll be back
Pleasant staff, interesting menu, very good value. .
Great Turkish food. Very attentive and friendly service.
Overall, this dining experience was wonderful. Excellent service, delicious food. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. Great menu choices and reasonably priced.
The paradigm of neighborhood gem, with consistently good food and service, reasonable prices, and the opportunity to bring-your-own wine. It's always quiet enough for conversation, and even when it's crowded,no one rushes you. Be sure to ask about the specials, and try the lamb shank if it's available.
I Love this place. It is one of my regular go-tos.
Always dependable frienfly service and delicious Turkish food. One of my favorite spots for casual get togethers with friends and family.
A lively atmosphere, very attentive staff, delicious food
The food is always delicious and it's byob
Food was excellent and very nicely presented.
Unfortunately, we were rushed. Were a little late for our reservation because of a parking problem, but I had called and our reservation was held. Waiter was very understanding that we had a concert to get to and advised us as to what would be best to order with our time constraints.
Will definitely go back when we have unlimited time and can really sit and enjoy. Noise level was quite high, but really did not bother us.
Delicious and authentic food. I am based in Washington D.C. and can not wait to go back to NYC in order to taste it again.
This has been our "go to" restaurant in our neighborhood for several years. Very affordable, comforting, home style Turkish food. Always good and welcoming service. The most liberal BYOB policy I have ever experienced. No corkage fee - wine glasses provided and wine poured without issue. Don't miss if in neighborhood! I have never had a bad or disappointing meal.
The service in this restaurant is very fast and courteous even when all seats are taken. Authentic Turkish food is featured at prices moderate (for Manhattan’s Lincoln Center district). The restaurant features a wide variety of dishes to fit every appetite and taste within Turkish cuisine. This is a “must done here” recommendation.
Great food, love the BYOB aspect. Second time in 4 months and we live out of town.
Outstanding food! Loved our lamb dishes! Quiet atmosphere and a great value, with prompt courteous service! Will go back for sure!
Excellent choice for Manhattan dining--our preferred place to dine before a concert at Carnegie Hall or a performance at Lincoln Center
Consistently thoughtful and gracious service
Excellent food prepared to one's specifications/request
BYOB without any corkage fee
if you are a coffee drinker do enjoy their Turkish coffee with some baklava at the end of your meal
Good food. Everyone had a good time
We go here every time we're in New York, and we've never been disappointed. Get the Sultan's Delight, lamb with eggplant puree. Outstanding.
Delicious food and very pleasant experience overall. BYOB but luckily there’s a nice wine store right across the street.
Everything was perfect - the food and the service. When we got the check, and we were only a party of 4, the tip of 18% was included. When I asked whether it was a normal practice for the restaurant to include the gratuity, one of the servers said that they did this because they thought I was a tourist. This undermined the experience as I have been living in NYC for decades, and it is not appropriate for a restaurant in multicultural NYC to profile customers. If the gratuity was included, I would have probably tipped 20% on my own volition as I was otherwise so happy with the experience.
Nice ambient and friendly staffs. Food was good only complain is the portion was slightly small for kebab combo.
Wonderful all around!
Both the dinner & the service were very good. We enjoyed our meal - it was delicious & authentic. It is within 10 minutes walking of NY City Center and a good place to eat dinner before the theater. We plan on going back for dinner.
Have eaten middle eastern food a lot I find that the food is lacking flavor and spices. I really was not impressed with what we ordered except for the falafel and bread. This would probably be the only things I would go back for. However the cleanliness of the cups, plates and utensils makes me never want to go back. If the items I'm supposed to using to eat and drink with are not clean.... then what does the kitchen look like? It leaves you to wonder. My glass had lipstick still on it... I did not wear any makeup that day so it was not mine. I did not notice this until towards the end of my meal when waitress refilled my glass and the light hit it and I saw the lip stick mark..... needless to say I was so disgusted and just felt sick to my stomach. Waitress was very nice and understanding and offered Turkish coffee as an apology but it was still very disgusting. Some of our plates also were not clean and we asked for clean ones. Not something a customer should have to ask for. Restaurant lack quality control. Items should be looked at before take out to customers tables. I must say I was disappointed with this experience and at the price point if this restaurant I expected higher quality in cleanliness and food.
Excellent food and great value. Handy to Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. It's BYOB but there's a wine shop just across the street.
We had an excellent meal. The service was fast and very efficient. And the food really good and reasonably priced.
Make sure you bring your wine if you want some as they don't have a wine list.
The service was non existent. I think there was one waiter for the whole restaurant and several untrained bus boys. Never asked about wine, never refilled the water and waited a very long time for dessert and coffee even thought we mentioned we had theater tickets. The eggplant salad and bread were wonderful.
I loved this place, my first time ever eating this food. Service was great, food was amazing! So tasty, I will definitely go back
