ABA Turkish Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Have eaten middle eastern food a lot I find that the food is lacking flavor and spices. I really was not impressed with what we ordered except for the falafel and bread. This would probably be the only things I would go back for. However the cleanliness of the cups, plates and utensils makes me never want to go back. If the items I'm supposed to using to eat and drink with are not clean.... then what does the kitchen look like? It leaves you to wonder. My glass had lipstick still on it... I did not wear any makeup that day so it was not mine. I did not notice this until towards the end of my meal when waitress refilled my glass and the light hit it and I saw the lip stick mark..... needless to say I was so disgusted and just felt sick to my stomach. Waitress was very nice and understanding and offered Turkish coffee as an apology but it was still very disgusting. Some of our plates also were not clean and we asked for clean ones. Not something a customer should have to ask for. Restaurant lack quality control. Items should be looked at before take out to customers tables. I must say I was disappointed with this experience and at the price point if this restaurant I expected higher quality in cleanliness and food.
The service was non existent. I think there was one waiter for the whole restaurant and several untrained bus boys. Never asked about wine, never refilled the water and waited a very long time for dessert and coffee even thought we mentioned we had theater tickets. The eggplant salad and bread were wonderful.
this was the first horrible experience i have had at ABA - i took the last reservation time but they should never accept reservations at 10 pm - 9:30 pm should be the absolute cut off - before i even sat down, they said we had to be out of there by 11 pm - they interrupted every 10 minutes to say the same thing - were slow in taking the order - bringing glasses for wine - did not offer to ice the wine like they usually do - wanted to know if we wanted a main course when we didn't even have time to finish the appetizers - they were cleaning the plates out from under us - the food had been cooked and sitting around so the zucchini pancakes were limp and terrible - the only decent thing was the phyllo stickts - never have we been treated so rudely and inconsiderately in a restaurant - a totallly different experience from the week before - i have never been there late night and would not go back at that time - never been to a restaurant where they wouldn't even let you finish your food saying they had to clean up and leave - had just been to Esca the night before where they allowed us to finish our meal in peace though we had walked in around 10 without a reservation - the service couldn't have been more delightful there and the food was freshly cooked - it was vastly more expensive but vastly better with cocktails, wine, appetizer, main course ... very sorry to have to write this since i have been to ABA several times and always loved it but it was Dr Jeklly and Mr Hyde - even the same waiter as the week before
The food is consistently excellent. The hospitality is warm and the service very good. The bread they bring out is delicious and abundant. I stick with the basics, grape leaves, cacik [!], doner kebab, falafel, moussaka. The prices are reasonable and it's close to Jazz at Lincoln Center and not that far from Carnegie Hall.
This was a great spot to meet a friend near Columbus Circle. We had the early dinner special (Monday-Thursday) which was a good, plentiful home style Turkish meal. No alcohol at the restaurant, so got a bottle of wine at the nearby store that was recommended. All in all, a very casual, relaxed and reasonable dinner.
well, definitely one of my favorite - convenient to CArnegie Hall and the Rose Theater but the food is delicious - the service could not be more accommodating - my TAblet was out of battery unexpectedly - they took it right away to recharge it - did not even need a charger - they allowed us to split the prix-fixe dinner again adding an appetizer - there is no corkage fee and you can bring your own wine - i said i had to make it to the opera and they served us quickly - more bread, more olive oil - no problem! left my credit card - got a call and picked it up after the opera - would go back in a heartbeat
ABA never disappoints with consistent, genuine Mediterranean food. Their menu is quite expansive and they even have a decent wine section. Service is quick and efficient. This is a place where you can go for a meal and never be disappointed.
Up side: good location near Lincoln Center. Down side: everything else. Poorly-prepared food (overcooked liver cubes), indifferent service. Occasional friendly waiters, others walking in their own world. I have eaten in many NYC Turkish restaurants; this is the bottom of the list.
Found this restaurant convenient to Lincoln Center. Very casual, local and reasonable prices. Also, BYOB which makes it more attractive. Wine store across the street! My wife and I had fish dishes, well prepared and presented. I would recommend and will return if in the neighborhood.
Looking for a moderately priced restaurant while staying in midtown Manhattan. This place fits the bill. It is BYOB and there are wine stores nearby to pick up something. The food was very good with nice size portions. We had the eggplant salad, hummus, sultan's delight, grilled trout and chicken kabobs/yogurt sauce - all excellent. Definitely a new go to place for us when staying in town.
