A Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Another great dinner at “A” restaurant.
Brian our server is very well educated on the menu and had excellent suggestions.
Of course, still our favorite appetizer is the Brussels Sprouts, done so well and always memorable.
We do the happy hour often and a full dinner is a treat.
This place was a beautiful hidden Jem! We got a last minute reso, ended up running a little late so called ahead. Are host was able to grab a very nice table for us when we arrived. One of the best coursed out meals I've had in a very long time. Would go back just to put together my own cheese board again. Thank you and your staff!!
We had one waitress for a huge room. We waited to order cocktails...we waited to place our orders... we waited for the cocktails to arrive and waited way too long for mediocre, at best, food to be delivered. It was so loud and noisy we couldn’t even have a decent conversation. Never going back there , ever!
Everything was great at the restaurant. The prob was the next day when I looked at my bill and saw a service charge. I called and was informed by Amy that it was to cover the employees health benefits. I feel that the $510 plus $120 gratuity should have been plenty to help cover the employee benefits. I’m very offended at having to pay a service charge on top of that. I work at a restaurant in seal beach where I am provided benefits and we do not put a service charge on checks for the guests to help pay the benefits. I would suggest to raise beer prices by .50 or wines by the glass or something discreet other than a service charge to guests already spending a decent amount
We had a great time Saturday night… Stacy our server was fantastic along with the busboys! I love the Decour and how they've kept pretty much everything from the old days when it was the arches… The only downside was which was that we had a table at butted up to the bar area which was very loud which is OK because that's what happens in a bar and I ordered off restaurant week menu picking the wrong thing not the quality of the food just that I didn't like it.... definitely will be back and sitting in Stacy's section
This is my favorite restaurant in Newport Beach! The food is consistently incredible and delicious, especially the steaks and charcuterie. This is a great restaurant for special occasions, and it is a very fun scene. Can be a little loud, but it's very authentic and the ambiance is great. I always bring out-of-towners here so they can experience the best of Newport Beach! Would highly recommend to anyone - I promise you won't be disappointed.
This was our first visit and expected a more conversational atmosphere rather than the noisy, bustling environment that made couples dining very difficult. The ribeye special was fair but nothing special but can say The Caesar salad was very good. Our waiter, Jared, was very attentive and most efficient.
We had a great dinner for our anniversary. Brian was terrific and made some great suggestions for appetizer (ahi tuna), dinner (filet Med-rare) and dessert (flan). We even received 2-complimentary glasses of rose champagne for our anniversary. Parking was a breeze, ambiance classy and cozy. Couldn't find a fault. Only recommendation I would offer is to add some Napa/Sonoma favorites such as Far Niente, Silver Oak, Caymus, Trefethen, Opus One. We did not recognize any of the wine vintages on the very extensive menu. Although we may not be the most sophisticated drinkers. Loved A-Restaurant. Will come again soon! THUMBS UP!
It was our anniversary but the hostess neglected to tell our waiter, so it was never acknowledged. The hostess appeared aloof, disinterested, looking down at her phone when we walked in......wonder if she was working on homework or reading a novel while she was working with us....?
The steaks are expensive, but delicious! In order to avoid the 50+ dollar price tag of most of the steaks, I ordered the Coulotte Wagu steak at $38. It looks much like a fillet mignon, ordered it medium rare, and it melted in my mouth! Delicious! My husband enjoyed the steak tartare. We would definitely return. One bit of advice, the wine list is expensive, with no ‘good choices’ under $75....we settled on a Paulmeyer Chardonnay at $80....Next time we will bring our own bottle from our cellar and pay the corkage fee!
After making our way through the smokers on the patio, we were greeted by A gracious hostess at kiosk. Knowledgeable waiter. Cheese and Spanish chorizo excellent. Found a reasonable priced delicious Malbec. Roasted beets were wonderful. Was not impressed with the puff pastry crust of pot pie. Duck leg was very tender, however the breast was tough and chewy. Noise level was way too loud. Most patrons around us were on their smart phones. It felt more like a bar (quite a bit of vulgar language) and pick up scene than a cozy restaurant, maybe midweek nights are quieter. Overall we enjoyed our experience.
This place is great and I loved it. Saturday night I had a reservation for 8:45PM to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. We arrived a little early and got a drink at the bar. Although the bar was really packed and the noise levels were energetic, I was able to get the bartenders attention and secure a drink in short order. We stood and enjoyed the ambience while enjoying our drinks which were nicely poured. In a short time one of the hostesses came over and showed us to our table which was awesome. The dinner and service were some of the best I've ever experienced. Really nice place which I can recommend with no hesitation.
I had always regarded Newport Beach as a slow-paced, rather boring town until I dined one Thursday night at A. The bar was packed and noisy, with aging beautiful people connecting with one another. They seemed to be having a very good time. Seated in the restaurant as far from the bar as possible, we found its din to be quite tolerable. In fact, the energy radiating from the bar was fun.
And A is also a very good restaurant. The four of us were all happy with our meals.
Went there for a couple of friends' birthday for the Waygu beef. Overall the Japanese A5 Miyazaki Cut was preferred over the Imperial Wagyu Coulotte. The flavor on the Imperial was a little disappointing in comparison to the Miyazaki cut. I had the Boneless Ribeye and amongst the 3 of us, we preferred the Ribeye. Service was not up to par from our waiter. He seemed a little frazzled covering his tables and we had to wave him down several times to place our order, correct our order, order wine (he didn't even ask if we wanted anything other than water), remind him the reservation was for a birthday celebration.
As the bar area is right next to the open dining area, the noise level did not make for good conversation. We had to basically yell to talk to each other in our booth.
I took a first time date to this restaurant as it had been recommended by a friend. Making the reservation was easy. Parked in valet ($6). Seated right away. Nice ambiance with red leather booths. Menu was full of interesting choices. Went with steaks and side veggies. Bottle of reasonably priced wine. No dessert. Total bill with tip $290. A little pricey even for Newport Beach. Overall, I give it four stars.
