Amazing food and service. Our steaks were both cooked to perfection. We made last minute reservations and we were able to get a table pretty quickly for how busy it was. Highly recommend!
It was a tad too dark, but otherwise an outstanding dining experience.
Had our 11 year anniversary. Superb in every way.
We love it.
We come every summer for vacation from San Diego and we will be back next year!
One of my favorite spots in Southern California
Filet mignon was disappointing. Was not medium rare (closer to rare) and was chewy. Taste was OK. Everything else Appetizer, salad, desert) was fine. Service was good. Atmosphere was good.
Disappointingly loud... Unfortunately we couldn’t even have a conversation at our table and hear each other. Such a shame to have spoiled what was suppose to have been a wonderful birthday celebration. I will definitely make a note of it and be sure to let friends and family know for future reference.
Superb service, ambiance, and food from appetizers to salads to entrees to dessert...A never disappoints!!
Wonderful "old school" dimly lit restaurant, with outstanding service and excellent food. We sat in the room off the bar, so a bit more lively than the main dining room - hit the spot for my wife and I. Our lounge server was Pricilla and she was outstanding. Our dining server was Jared ("Jerry") - he really knew his stuff and his recommendations were spot on. Definitely a special place and highly recommended.
We loved the traditional decor, the moderate noise level (in the back, far from the bar), the attentive service of Santiago and the large staff of "bus boys". My water glass was filled almost as soon as I took a sip.
We loved the taste of our filet mignon and New York steak.
We appreciated the complimentary dessert to celebrate Jeffrey's birthday.
We recognize that this is not a budget restaurant, but a gourmet one, so will not comment on value.
Our dinner was delicious.
We loved our date night. Service was great! Cocktails where delicious and our dinner was excellent. I gave it a 4 star in ambiance it was very loud and noisy.
Sometimes you have a dining experience where everything just falls into place. Such an experience occurred on Saturday night. Promptly taken to our table, promptly greeted by our server, Jared. We meshed very well with Jared. Great recommendations, very knowledgeable. Service was on point the entire evening. Food was wonderful. Thanks, A Restaurant for making our wedding anniversary memorable. Thank you Jared for your great service. Will definitely be back soon.
We love A’s it’s our favorite restaurant to celebrate a special occasion at.
I ordered lamb chops. My favorite. Very gristle and difficult to cut. And then a bite was so chewy. Not tasty or easy to eat. So disappointed.
My girlfriend and I decided this will be our birthday spot, so if twice a year isn't enough I will have to sneak in an extra visit. The food is outstanding and the drinks are made to satisfy. it's got a really cool old steak house vibe going with a modern twist. I strongly recommend it, it's delicious.
Our server, Stacy, was outstanding. Loved the low light and ambiance of the room. Over all, food was good but not great, considering the price. We got out of there for $230 for two before tip. Had the spicy tuna appetizer which was amazing. Corn and crab soup had great flavor and a unique texture but I found the square black bowl it was served in to be too modern and unappetizing/ off-putting and didn’t fit with the feel of the restaurant. Also, there was only a single one inch piece of crab in it. Wife had the Caesar salad which was pretty run of the mill. Wife loved her halibut dinner. I had the ribeye, which had great flavor but a little tough. Sides were Mac and cheese and asparagus. Large asparagus was not trimmed and served with woody ends. Mac was thin and runny and if not for the crumb crust, could be mistaken for store bought. House Cabernet is outstanding. Pear martini was smooth and delicious. Jamaica whiskey sour was surprisingly unsweet for my wife. Had yummy cheesecake for dessert which comes with a scoop of pistachio ice cream that tastes way too much like straight pistachio nuts and not a sweet ice cream. I feel like I really trashed this place with my review but I would love to go back. I’d change my entree to something a little cheaper and skip dessert and the soup/salad course so I wouldn’t walk out feeling like I spent so much on a good quality meal.
Everything was fantastic. We had the server running around and she took it all in stride! Efficient. Front desk was a little snotty. Felt like she was scolding me.
The food at A is always predictably good. I have yet to have a meal that was not cooked as I ordered and not first quality. My only objection to A (which is a pretty uniform negative) is that it is LOUD -- obnoxiously so. However, I will go back because the food and service are top notch.
The place is really nice but it is very dark and almost hard to read the menu. It is also quite noise considering the nice ambiance. The service was great and food good and not heavy (even the mashed potatoes were so soft!)
Loved our waiter and food was delicious.
We had a fabulous meal with our friends from back east. I wish that they had more selections of Chardonnays by the bottle that are reasonable priced.
Great service....fantastic steak,,,love the feel of this old classic.... mostly locals ...few tourists...
Awesome dinner!!! Everything was phenomenal. Service was excellent and food was perfect!
Stacy was awesome as always!
I love to experience fine dining and do not worry about
the cost when it is great.
But hate when the price is high and the food is poor.
Creeping arrogance with the staff from the manager
to the waiter to the valet.
Have enjoyed the market for years and will continue too.
But the restaurant will survive for many more years
without my business.
The quality of food and service has declined since I was there years ago. Such a shame because its a Newport Beach institution.
Our server was Priscilla and she was simply FANTASTIC! Food was very good to outstanding for sure! House wait staff never let the water glass get half full.... and all this during a fairly busy night too!
We had an amazing time celebrating my wife’s birthday with great friends and will be returning on a regular basis.
Excellent food, service and ambiance! You can’t go wrong with a nice fresh piece of salmon, grass fed ribeye and a Caesar salad. The cucumber mint martinis are excellent as well. Five stars*
Amazing food and great service. very nice place to take a date or your wife for dinner. romantic and all together perfect.
Services was exceptional, and our server was hilarious! Great sense of humor, and allowed our experience to be nothing less than fantastic. Food was above or, and can’t wait to go back!
This was one of the best meals/restaurants I’ve been to in a long time! I love the ambiance, the music, the service and the food! This will definitely be one of our go-tos every time we visit Newport Beach.
This is a place for the younger set. When you come in the restaurant - you cannot see....it is so dark...
I had made reservations in advance and asked for a quiet table...they weaved us through the bar and back to a back booth in the dining room which backed up to the noisy bar and was open. We had a great server which helped the evening. When our bill came each couple had 3 letters (can't remember what they were) but stood for employees insurance in the amount of $2 and something. We had already signed our credit card when we asked....and was told it could be removed.. Will not be returning.
Since the minute we walked we were received with a smile everyone was so nice and attentive. We were half an hour late for our reservation but they were happy we called ahead to let them know. Steven was our waiter he was very nice and later helped pick a wine that best matched the steak my mother was having. Overall great experience will definitely be back!!
From the friendly greeting when you first enter to the great food and drinks a wonderful experience!
This time I went out with my mom and my girlfriend for Mother’s Day and we had a great steak, as always a restaurant came through with amazing food and great service
Showed up early on Cinco de Mayo was served French bread instead of chips and salsa. Food quality was good, presentation was nice but most everything lacked flavor--a little salt would have been nice.
A Restaurant is always a treat. We took friends who had not been there before and they enjoyed it as much as we did. It was cinco de Mayo menu and that was fun and delicious. Look forward to dining there again very soon.
We really normally enjoy the A, but on this particular night in we were in the bar and the noise level was so high that I couldn’t hear my husband. And I’ve never had a bad steak there until now:( My filet was very hard to cut, tough to eat and too heavily seasoned.
I’m sure it was just a one off. It’s a great place and the staff is wonderful.
Wonderful experience. We had Steve take care of us- and he made it an outstanding night with how he took control of the evening with his food and drink recommendations. He was fun and involved in the perfect way. The food was amazing- especially the steaks!
