Amazing food! Our new favorite spot :)
Highly recommend the filet mignon and pineapple dessert
Overall a 3 star experience. A classic Newport restaurant with a very tasty menu. Friday night was cocktail scene overtook the dining room with loud and rude patrons scattered throughout the dining room. Our server was very nice but they were understaffed and service was bare min. Food tastes really nice but it hard to get a word in because it was so loud.
Loved the way A’s handled Valentine’s Day - by not changing a single thing they always do and nailing everything as usual! Thanks.
The best server ever Stephen
Our meal was amazing. The service was perfect. The ambiance is classy. The bill was astronomically expensive ($500 for 2 couples after tip) but worth it. Will go again. And again.
We had one table celebrating a birthday in the dining room, and they were extremely loud and really ruined the atmosphere. When three tables request to move, maybe you have to ask the drunk table screaming in the back to keep it down? After the loud party left, A's was really nice. The interior is old school wood paneling, red booths, fire place, with some red neon accents on the bar. Tuesday was half price wine list night, which was a nice surprise. The pork chop was magnificent, next time I want to try the filet or the scallops. Cheap valet parking and a lively crowd at the bar, I will definitely return.
The beautiful hostess was fantastic, our server Stacy was a classic! We enjoyed the service & ambience. This was our first time dining at this restaurant, we look forward to returning! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!
FUN we had a blast
Outstanding service with excellent and interesting food.
Parking was not ideal as you have to valet but great atmosphere and great food
John was our server and he did a phenomenal job. I have some major dietary restrictions right now and I provided this in the notes for my reservation via OpenTable. John acknowledged he knew this immediately and recommended what would meet my needs. The octopus appetizer was delicious! Our ribeye steaks were phenomenal. My Kristi's salad was yummy. This may be my new favorite restaurant. Next time we are trying some of the Miyazaki A5.
Friday and Saturday nights are extremely busy there and very loud. We were fortunate to get a semi-private table away from most of the noise.
Amazing food and lively atmosphere with a diverse range of age demographics.
Exceptional dining and wine experience. Be sure to meet Steve Ackad ( manager) to maximize the evening. Great people watching for the best (& outrageous) of Newport Beach.
First class old school!
Great food and service.
Our experience always surpasses expectations - A’s clearly has an amazing staff and management in place!
I was disappointed by my last visit. My food was great but one of my group had to send her steak back as it was all fat and gristle. So she didn’t eat at the same time as everyone else because she needed a complete new piece of meat. The A was nice about it and comped us a bottle of wine, but I could tell she was disappointed. Plus the service was very slow, more than you’d expect for this type of restaurant. I’m not sure I will go back, given the cost.
Been to this restaurant for over 20 years.
This most recent trip was the worst.
While the food was fine and service good, the noise level was unbearable. Averaged 96db.
A combination of unchecked bad behavior, and no physical barrier between the bar and dining area,
The noise was maddening.
If the A wants to be a local hotspot watering hole where noise isn’t a problem.
But do no not claim to be a fine dining establishment, while you encourage this type of behavior.
Love this place!
The food was very good, especially the mushroom soup. Service was excellent. Ambience was reminiscent of days gone by, but very enjoyable. Noisy, but not distracting. We would definitely go back again.
Great food, great service
Everything we had was excellent. We will be going back. Best steak ever.
We had an exceptional family birthday dinner at A Restaurant. Haven’t been here since it was “The Arches.” What a great update and refreshing change! Absolutely phenomenal appetizers (like the spicy tuna on tempura eggplant!!!), wonderful steaks (filet was PERFECT!), and delicious sides (carrots were insane and mashed potatoes, sublime!). The service was impeccable and made us feel welcome, comfortable, and valued. Loved every minute of this special dinner.
Always a great meal. I haven't been to A for a while, but had a great dinner with the family. The wagyu beef was amazing, as were the scallops and short ribs. Great service as always.
Wonderful service and incredible food.
Loved it! Had the best scallops
We’ve been to A’s for dinner several times and have always enjoyed the food, the ambiance and great service. This visit was an exception...our service was HORRIBLE!! We were a party of 4, we had reservations and got seated immediately. Once seated we were greeted by our disheveled server (shirt was mostly untucked) and got our drinks. We waited at least 20 minutes for him to take our food order and when he did we asked to start with a couple of appetizers, he told me I couldn’t order appetizers first while we decided on our dinner order...everything had to be ordered at the same time! It’s crazy to pay these kinds of prices for a meal and to be told NO by your server. As the night went on it got worse! We had to flag down the guy pouring water to get bread for the table and when it was time for dessert the waiter literally flung the menu on the table, said the Madelines take 10 minutes and walked away!! VERY RUDE. At the end of the night we spoke to the manager at length about our experience and she promised the GM would be calling us to “make it right” it’s been 6 days now and not a word!!! Based on this experience I would recommend Mastro’s for dinner. Pretty much the same prices and the service is Always great!!! VERY Disappointed with A’s!!!
very expensive for very good but very small portions!
A Restaurant is perfect especially if you go a bit early before the restaurant is 100% full.
Our waiter has been with A Restaurant for 5 years. He is the epitome of wait staff customer service.
The food is amazing. Japanese A5 Aiyazaki Wagyu is listed under Specialty Cuts. Try it as an appetizer. (The minimum is 2 ounces.) It is the best steak I have EVER had.
There is a great selection of cocktails and wines.
If you can't make up your mind, please ask the waiter. In this case, our waiter was knowledgeable and took the time to ask what we liked before making recommendations.
Service was personable and precise! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in a semi-private room off the bar.
Amazing service, food and ambiance!! Love A’s!!
Brian is amazing !!! He’s so good at his job !! I love him !!! Best waiter ever !!!
Love the atmosphere at A’s! The drinks, food and dessert, 5 stars! The short rib Marsala was fantastic, a must. The service was amazing. A must for all.
After having had a disappointing meal the night before in a highly rated new restaurant in Laguna- it was with great pleasure to have had a spectacular meal at A. The ambience is kitschy, cozy and very friendly. The mushroom soup, ribeye steak and everything else was prepared to perfection. Bravo. We'll be back.
Super tasty quality food and diverse menu selections.
We have been going to the Arches (A Resturant) . for 40 years.
Nice staff, good food but VERY dark in back room. Dangerous as a person in the party fell and fractured a rib. Should add more lighting in tight spaces.
This is by far our favorite restaurant in Newport Beach. The service, food, and ambiance are impeccable. You will never regret taking the time to dine there. And by dine I mean take your time and enjoy the meal, the atmosphere and the service; you wont find it at this level anywhere else.
We went for an anniversary. Waiter was excellent food was very good we were not rushed in anyway. And noise level was not too bad all in all we had a great time
Staci provided excellent customer service.
We came hungry and tried meatballs, cheese charcuterie, kale salad, pork chop and short ribs. All stand out with the meatballs being the low light but were still very solid. Dram on menu was a pleasant surprise and wine list was great. We drove down from LA on our way home to SD and would make the drive back up for sure. Bar was hopping and lots of bigger parties. Seemed consistent and well run.
