About A Piece of Havana
Awww ... Cuba! Just a mere thought will have your hips swiveling in time to the rich mambo beat, which is only intensified if you happen to be drinking a sweet, rum-soaked mojito. Thinking about jumping a plane to Miami? No need! A Piece of Havana brings the Cuban flavor to your Charlotte stomping grounds.
We reward our guests by combining the native Siboney staples of corn, peanuts, and yucca with the Spanish accents of rice and olive oil. Alongside relocated Floridian Cubans, Belkis and Juan Plasencia, is a chef who together create garlic and herb-infused delights of the empanadas, moros y cristianos (black beans mixed with white rice), and of course the classic Cuban sandwich. Feel free to take full advantage of the take-out and coffee-to-go bar and drop by for live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Being our Guest is caliente!

A Piece of Havana Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went to this restaurant for Valentine's Day dinner. We had a reservation. The restaurant was empty except for one couple. There was no one at the hostess desk. Two staffers were very slow to respond to the desk, and when they did, they offered us a peek at their Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner and asked if we knew about it. We did not know they had only one menu for the evening, but we glanced at it and said it would be fine. We were offered seating at a table by the door, which we didn't want. Except for one table, all of the other tables in the restaurant were empty. When we pointed to a table we thought would be acceptable, we were told it was taken and were told we had to leave the table they took us to by a certain time. We were totally offended and don't intend to ever go to A Piece of Havanna again.
We went to another restaurant in Charlotte that night, the Vine, without a reservation, and had a lovely, delicious meal.
Met a friend here for a relaxed weekend lunch. The menu is pretty big. The steak was a nice, not too big or small size and well prepared, and had good variety of sides. The restaurant has lots of choice here--you can splurge food-wise and get fried dishes and thick sauces, or you can get something simple and grilled. Not a dieter's haven, but everyone can find something. Sides of plantains were delicious.
If you’re looking for authentic Cuban dishes, A Piece of Havana is definitely a location to check out! The food, live entertainment, and dancing make this place so much fun! The ambiance is perfect for a dinner for two or group parties. My husbands surprise birthday dinner was a hit with our family and friends!
We arrived upon our reservation and were seated promptly. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Sunday night with only two other tables there. Food, drinks and dessert were phenomenal. Sunday’s they have $5 sangria glasses , which were delicious. I also had the raspberry mojito and it was amazing. Overall, we had a wonderful night. We will return & recommend to friends.
My parents are Cuban and I grew up in Miami surrounded by Cuban restaurants. The atmosphere at Piece of Habana is very nice and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was fair at best. My son ordered the bistec de palomilla, I ordered the lechon asado with boiled yuca, and my husband ordered the roasted chicken. All these meals are Cuban staples. Everything was edible but bland.
Everyone wants to have a restaurant that is consistent with service, food quality, and ambiance. This restaurant delivers on those three factors, every time.
I cannot write an unbiased interview. I love this restaurant.
Its location is convenient. Its servers are friendly. The espresso is wonderful.
We chose Piece of Havana for my wife’s 60th birthday after a planned trip to Cuba was cancelled due to hurricanes.
The service was excellent, as was the food and music.
We had the Valenciana paella and it was exceptional.
I will return and recommend Piece of Havana to friends.
This place is perfect for Friday nights. A live Latin band will play, as people dance on the narrow dance floor. Then at 10pm, the dance floor is enlarged and Latin line dancing starts. The food is very good and the Cuban drinks are fresh and perfect. Overall, A Piece Of Havana is one of my favorite places to go on a Friday evening.
We had a table to 17 people and, for a group that size, the servers did an amazing job of keeping up with our orders and bringing our drinks. The bartenders also did a nice job and the mojitos were fabulous though they could be a bit stronger. Adding more rum would be perfection. Our only complaint was the music. Having a live band is awesome, but they were way, way too loud. It was great for dancing, but awful for conversation. The website indicates that live music is in the lounge next door, so we anticipated great dinner talk, then heading next door for the music, but that was not the case. The manager and band did lower the volume. We loved the music. Just too much, too loud. Overall, a fun night.
Our family dined here at this restaurant Labor Day weekend for dinner. We sat at a booth & the lighting was terrible. I asked the waitress if they could turn on the chandelier lights that were hanging over the table, but she mentioned lights were on a timer & the lights would automatically come on as the sun set further down???? Well we arrived @ 7:30 pm Sunday @ the restaurant & approximately left around 8:15 pm! The restaurant closed @ 8pm . Lights never came on! I did have a great mojito though! Perhaps management needs to place candles on the tables so that guest sitting at booth tables can see what they're eating! The lighting at the tables in the center of the restaurant is adequate & we did enjoy the food for the price!
Went here looking for good Cuban- the mojito was excellent and so were the margaritas. We ordered an appetizer sampler that was excellent with pork, roauetas empanadas, yuca, tostones and Maduros and a tamal- the tamale was the only thing that was not good. I had the oxtail- not up to Versailles version in Miami, but good. The 3 leeches was just ok. Only 2 choices for dessert.
It was maybe 20 people in the entire restaurant yet service was very slow. There were stretches of 10 minutes where we not see an a waitress on the floor at all. When our waitress did come she was super nice and gave honest suggestions on food choices. Food was good.
The service was good. Slow at first but good. The food was cold. It also lacked flavor. My wife ordered Pan con bistec. (Steak sandwich). It looked like jerky. The portion of meat was weak. She only ate half of her meal. I ordered the same and was not impressed. We have eaten at different Cuban restaurants throughout the country by far this was the worst. We had 10 guests total. The kids meals were fine. (The kids did not know any better) My father ordered a churrasco and It was coolant had no flavor but the sides were hot. We all basically ate what we did because we were hungry and had waited almost an hour for our food. I would not recommend this place. I grew up in Miami for over 15 years and go there about 5-10 times a year so I know Cuban food.
Food was excellent. We are not Cuban so we cannot comment on The authenticity. But there were a lot of Latinos there who seem to be enjoying themselves as much as we were. It was a Friday night and they had entertainment. It was pretty good and not so loud as to be overwhelming. Our waiter was excellent. The place is decorated nicely, but not overdone. We will be back.
We had a wonderful time and everyone LOVED the mojitos and food. We had 6 people in our party and split the two appetizer platters. The Empanadas were to die for. We also got the Pallela and then the Meat Platter for all of us to share and it was so much food. There was plenty left over and our 3 husband's do not eat light. Highly recommended - we will be back for sure!
